Hayate no Gotoku - 02
Hayate is having a dream where he is in Heaven. He wonders if he is dead, and Santa confirms that he is. Hayate is surprised, but decides that he had lost everything in life so it might be ok. Santa scolds him for giving up so easily, and Hayate apologizes. He wakes up in a very large room, and he thinks that he must be in Heaven because he’s never been around something so elegant. We then see a doctor talking to Nagi and Maria at the entrance of the mansion explaining that the head injury wasn’t fatal. Nagi is very excited about making Hayate her butler, and asks for Maria to help him as soon as he wakes up. Maria agrees to but first…
Hayate is in a very large bath. He thinks that Heaven’s baths sure are amazing, but it is kind of lonely being the only one there. However, when he looks across the bath he sees Maria. He wonders if he is really having a dream. She is embarrassed but mentions that he must be pretty tough, since under normal circumstances the type of wound he has would open up in a bath. Sure enough, it does and he passes out.
When Hayate wakes up again, he sees Maria this time. Too embarrassed to mention what just happened, Maria says that Hayate was sleeping the whole time. She then explains where he is, and asks about Hayate’s debt that she found among other things. Hayate tries apologizing for everything (there is another misunderstanding). Nagi enters and talks to Hayate about being her butler. Hayate quickly agrees, saying that he would devote his life for Nagi.
We see Maria in another room talking to the head butler, Klause, about Hayate. He thinks it isn’t a very good idea and asks Maria to get Hayate to leave. In the present, Hayate has put on his suit, and Maria is glad that she made it to fit correctly. Maria tells him that the first thing is cleaning, as they pass by Nagi in the hall. Hayate tells her excitedly about the suit Maria made for him, but Nagi coldly tells him to do well with his work. Hayate thinks this is strange, but quickly goes off to work. Maria wonders how she can get rid of someone who is so devoted.
Back in another room, Nagi is thinking that it was bad to treat Hayate so coldly, but she was jealous of Maria. Maria comes in and explains that Hayate is working hard. Nagi wants to talk to him so she leaves the room, but at that moment, Hayate enters and asks Maria if she would check his work. Everything is done very well, to the last detail. Maria thinks to herself that she can’t make Hayate leave.
Afterwards, Hayate is wandering down the hall thinking to himself that the house is very big. He sees an open door, and enters a large room. He sees a notebook on a table, and assumes that it is a picture diary. Nagi comes in wondering what he is doing in her room. Upon hearing that her manga was mistaken for a picture diary, she gets very angry and screams for Hayate to get out.
Hayate leaves the mansion, but he is picked up by the loansharks that were after him before. Maria enters Nagi’s room and asks her if it’s really all right to make Hayate leave. Nagi explains that she only wanted him to leave her room, and feels guilty.
Hayate has been taken to the loansharks’ warehouse. He starts to imagine things, worried about what is going to happen to his life. They grab hold of him, as he screams for someone to help him. At that moment, Nagi shows up wearing a mask. Hayate addresses her as ojosama, but she says that she is ‘Mask the Money’. The men say that they won’t give up Hayate because of his debt, but Nagi empties a suitcase full of money to pay for it. They leave because they don’t mess with anyone that actually pays up. Hayate tells ‘Mask the Money’ to explain to Nagi that he would definitely pay the money back and asks her to let him work as her butler again. Nagi says that the money was a present, but when Hayate mentions that her mask is strange, she gets angry because she thought it was cool. She agrees that he would definitely have to pay it all back, and they turn to observe the falling snow.
Preview: As he gets used to his work as a butler, Hayate fights a robot and tiger!
Impression:
This episode covered manga chapters 3-5. I loved this episode as much as I did the first. It’s really nice to see this series animated, though we notice a lot of minor changes again in this episode. They constantly hide the scenes with blood, bleep out words referring to other series, and they took out the Maria fanservice. The weird sign showed up again to block out a bloody body as well. These are minor bothers but I don’t know if i can get used to it. The things they do just seem so out of place. I guess its to be expected from an early Sunday morning show though. On another note, I thought the reference to Black Lagoon was freaking hilarious.
