Seto no Hanayome – 02

The scene opens up with Seto Ren asking Nagasumi’s parents to take care of their daughter. Nagasumi’s parents wonder if its ok to say things like that already, since they are still in school. Ren assures them that it is, because it is a mermaid’s duty. They can hear Gouzaburou’s voice from another room, who has actually been chained up.

Back at his grandmother’s house, Nagasumi is thinking about the other day, and how much trouble he’s gotten into. His Grandmother comes in and suggest that they should go on a date, because they’re married afterall. She gives him some money and tells him to enjoy himself.

At the festival that’s taking place, Nagasumi apologizes to San for being late, but she says that she just arrived a bit early. He thinks that she looks really good in a yukata, then wonders why he’s getting so embarrassed after looking at her.

San exclaims that she wants some cotton candy, so they go to get some. Nagasumi insists that money isn’t a problem, but San says that if would be rude if he payed for hers since they haven’t known each other for that long. They visit various other food stands where San gets big portions of food, but Nagasumi’s always seem below standard. Whenever he asks the people working at the stands, they intimidatingly ask him if he has a problem.

San apologizes to Nagasumi for only visiting food stands, and mentions that all of the stands are run by her family. Upon hearing this, Nagasumi realizes that this must be Gouzaburou’s doing. As they pass a mask stand, he sees Gouzaburou’s face. He thinks to himself that if he were to hold her hand he would be dead. At that moment, San asks if she can hold onto his arm. They are a couple afterall.

They pass by a taiyaki stand and a friendly old man gives them two large portions. Nagasumi thinks to himself that there are still nice people there, but when he breaks his open there is a cellphone inside. Upon answering it, Gouzaburou tells him that he is dead.

San decides that she wants to play goldfish catching, but when she starts, she is very enthusiastic because she considers it goldfish ’saving’. Nagasumi decides that he would give it a try, but the stand managers point out a shark tank as his. Nagasumi manages to throw the shark aside when it attacks him, but the water from the tank gets splashed on San. When water touches a mermaid’s legs it reverts them to their true form. It would be bad if someone saw her like that, so he takes her to somewhere no one would see them.

Gouzaburou, Masa, and Ren are walking along a path when they see Nagasumi vigorously wiping off San’s legs. This looks very wrong so Gouzaburou gets extremely angry. However, Masa who saw her legs change back tells explains that it was a misunderstanding. Upon seeing the shark, San realizes that her dad was interfering with their date. She becomes angry with Gouzaburou and drags Nagasumi off.

San mentions that she attends school with regular humans, because it is fine as long as they don’t find out her identity. At one of the stands, a large amount of water pours out. Nagasumi pushes San out of the way, but his hand ends up somewhere it shouldn’t be. San panics and lets out a large scream, which causes Nagasumi to go deaf for awhile. Mermaid’s voices can be used as a weapon. San appologizes to Nagasumi for only causing him trouble, but he decides to buy her a glass ring to cheer her up.

Later at the dance that is being held, Masa starts teaching Nagasumi to dance. San panics when she sees this, thinking that Nagasumi prefers the ‘first kiss’ over her. Nagasumi runs after her, explaining that it is a misunderstanding. They are married after all. San is assured, but she then notices that she lost the ring. Nagasumi tells her not to worry about a glass ring, but San thinks of it as an important engagement ring. Nagasumi realizes how seriously San was taking the date, and immediately helps to find it. Ren comes by a bit later holding the ring in her hand. She explains that it was actually Gouzaburou that found it. She then tells them that she wore the same yukata that San is wearing when he proposed to her. Gouzaburou gets embarrassed and angry after hearing this and throws the ring into the sky.

It somehow lands on Masa’s finger. Panicing, San lets off another scream that blows Nagasumi off into the distance. Nagasumi sees his Grandfather in Heaven and wonders if it is ok to stay, but he is woken up by San’s voice who is glad he didn’t die. Later at his house, Nagasumi is all bandaged up while San looks over him. He thinks to himself that he will have to deal with experiences like that from now on.

Impression:

So after watching the first episode a few more times and checking out the manga, I decided to give this show a chance. The story has a lot of ups and downs but it does use its potential. The humor is still in your face, but I found it a lot more interesting with Nagasumi and San together. I actually had a good laugh with the second episode. I’m still a sucker for love comedies and even have the habit of watching really bad ones. Besides that, not many people are blogging this show and I don’t see any subs coming out any time soon. So for now, I’ll keep blogging Seto no Hanayome.
