Touka Gettan – 02
Uta
Summary:
As the sunset goes down in the town of Kamitsumihara, we see the short haired Touka predicting that today would be it. We see a flower like object pulsing inside of him. The purple haired girl from the first episode is in an empty auditorium. She says that everything will disappear with Makoto’s help. We then see a sick Yumiko in bed. Kiyotsugu comes in and she addresses him as her older brother. He has something important to talk to her about. He talks about Juna’s energy that they have been fighting to quiet since the postwar period, through a concert. Nene comes in with tea. Addressing the man as Kiyoharu, she mentions that this concert would be different.
We see Momoka waking up in her bed. She tells us that she only has memories of the past year, but at the same time she has memories from thousands of years ago. As she is preparing for the day, she passes Makoto on the way to the bath. Makoto gives Momoka a hug and expresses her admiration for her. She mentions that she has to go soon because the concert is starting soon.
In the auditorium that is now full, we see a group of triplets expressing how wonderful it is. One of them lifts up a piece of candy and launches it at Shouko, who is enjoying tea on the other side. Shouko has her personality change after taking off her glasses and fights back by splashing them with tea. They begin a food fight with tomatoes being thrown all over the auditorium. Makoto comes in, addressing the purple haired girl as Kikyou, when a tomato falls on Kikyou’s head. The whole auditorium freezes up because it was bad to let that happen to the princess. However, Kikyou simply tells Makoto that she is going out for a bit and leaves.
We see Momoka dressing in her room, talking about how some things change, but some things stay the same, and how the heart feels for a loved person. As the food fight continues Haruhiko stands up to protest, but the announcer explains that the concert will begin soon and that he should sit down and be quiet.
At a temple, we see an older woman greet Touka. She says that she is tired and talks about how things are going to be for thousands of years. She talks about Yumiko, and how she was a good subject. A girl walks up that they address as Fuu. She talks about the case that will be happening. Touka wonders if it is ok following such orders. He wants to know the meaning to such an existence. Back at the auditorium, the concert has started.
Kikyou appears at the temple. She explains to Touka the importance of their existence for the town of Kamitsumihara. She tells him that they are all conected like family, and she could even be called her mother. Touka doesn’t want her to say such disgusting things. Kikyou addresses the grey haired woman as and Mana, and they kiss. Back at the auditorium, Makoto starts to sing. She thinks to herself that Momoka is her reason for singing.
Momoka appears before the four at the temple. Touka wonders if she is ok with coming, and she confirms that she is. Touka asks her what loneliness is, and she replies that to her it is a life without him, as they embrace. The five start glowing as they shift forms. The temple is filled with green light. Touka pulls the flower like item from inside of himself and it turns into a sword. Images of a boy cutting people down appears in his mind. The girls call out to him as Isabihiko, but he tells them that they are wrong. Isabihiko is no longer there. They start chanting words and disappear. Momoka has a tear in her eye as she fades, and Touka is startled by this. He remains alone afterwards.
Makoto is also glowing at the auditorium. She notices that Kikyou is not there. The triplets are fading as well, as they turn into statues. Touka is walking down a path thinking about hardships in life. He wonders what is right, and wants someone to answer him.
Back at Yumiko’s place, she gets an unexpected phone call.

Impression:
The characters basically held a ceremony to prolong their life through different bodies in this episode, in which Makoto’s song was necessary. These events obviously happened before the first episode, since we saw the phone call at the end of the episode that at was at the beginning of the first. The four members performing magic was at the beginning as well. Once again, we saw connections between the different beings: The flower-like item that beats within the Touka in the beginning of the episode is the one that came out during the magic ritual. Momoka is also known as Sei, Mana is also known as Juna, and Touka has some connection with Isabihiko’s soul. There is also the issue with the triplets leaving statues behind as they disappeared, as they were also associated with shrine demons.
But wow, this episode was so hard to blog. It was so much more dialog driven than the first one, and I actually took out the dictionary in hopes of translating most of it. I know I missed a lot, particularly in Kikyou’s long speech at the temple. This may be my favorite show this season though, so I really want to blog it. The harder it is to translate, the better the practice I guess! I’m sure things will start piecing themselves together now, but from the look of how things are going, they may do a lot of things out of sequence. Either way, I’m very interested to see more.
