Hayate no Gotoku – 03

Hayate and Nagi are playing video games in one of the mansion’s rooms. Nagi explains to Hayate that the mansion they are staying in is actually a small one out of all the Sanzenin mansions. Hayate mentions that it is dangerous to stay in a mansion with such a cute girl. This makes Nagi a bit embarrassed by this, but gets angry when she finds out that Hayate was actually talking about Maria.

Hayate is walking down the hall with a map in his hand, thinking about his circumstances. He walks into Nagi’s room to wake her up, but stops when he sees a large tiger lying next to her. Nagi wakes up and thanks Hayate, but he is still trying to rationalize the situation. Hayate tries to warn Nagi, but she is not worried at all. Klause comes out from under the bed and introduces himself to Hayate. He tells him that no one but Nagi could handle Tama, but that means not even himself. Angered by Klause’s way of describing him, Tama slashes Klause down. Tama starts to charge Hayate, but stops to Nagi’s words. Nagi tells Tama that if he wants to play he should do it outside. Tama crashes out of the window with Hayate.

Hayate tells Tama not to underestimate him because he has had experience in the Safari. Klause proposes to Nagi that if Hayate cannot beat Tama, he would have to leave. Nagi is ok with this because she believes Hayate would never lose. Hayate and Tama start to fight, while in the mean time, Nagi and Klause realize that that place is…

Maria is done with her work in the kitchen so she makes her way down to her garden. Upon seeing the wreckage to her plants caused by Tama, she gets very angry, seeing right through Nagi and Klause’s intentions. Afterwards, she treats Hayate’s wounds and tells him that Nagi had found Tama in Africa as an abandoned kitten. She gets back to work, and Hayate sees that he and Tama are the same. However, Tama gets up and tells Hayate not to compare him to such a poor person like himself. As Tama leaves, Hayate thinks to himself “Ah..so rich family’s pets can talk”, but in actuality he is the only one that knows this.

In the mansion, Klause and Nagi are arguing about Hayate. Klause does not think that he is capable of protecting Nagi, but in that case, even Maria agrees that Hayate’s body is very capable. Klause proposes a challenge to decide if Hayate is capable or not. They make their way to another room, where they find the robot, Eight. Klause tells them that it was made to be the most capable serving robot, but Nagi thinks it doesn’t look that amazing. Eight gets angry at her words and attacks Nagi, but Hayate takes her out of harms way. Eight declares that no one can stop him now, but Hayate says that he will protect Nagi. Hayate is very surprised when Eight fires missiles at him, but he counterattacks by making Eight break a water pipe. Eight tells him that Japanese robots are waterproof, so that was ineffective. However, Hayate throws some stainless eating utensils at Eight’s feet and breaks the electric cord from a lamp, using it to defeat him.

With this, Klause finally accepts Hayate as a butler. After waking up from a dream about his previous friends, Hayate finds Nagi looking over him. She hopes that he can be good to her as a butler from now on. We are then brought back to the first scene of episode one, where Hayate protects Nagi from the giant robot.

Preview: Hayate goes to Nagi’s school!

Impression:

This episode covered chapters 6-7 of the manga. Wow, Nagi saying the Mahou Shoujo type dialog in the beginning of this episode was hilarious. One thing bothered me in this episode. So they’ll block out blood and burns, but they’ll clearly show spears sticking through Hayate’s body? I’m not even sure if they’re just censoring to be funny anymore. We also saw a lot of romance connections between Hayate and Nagi again this episode (to Nagi at least) through Hayate’s protection of Nagi, which they will continue to use throughout the series. They kind of make the animation more friendly than the manga, but that isn’t bad at all. The animation is done really well and has a nice feel to it. It seems like they are going to start doing things out of sequence, with Hayate having the school visit in the next episode.
