Seto no Hanayome – 04

Nagasumi and his family are introducing San to her new home at their house. Maki pops out of San’s bag to have a look too, but Nagasumi tells her not to show her face because it would cause trouble if someone saw her. Maki threateningly retaliates, and no one else in the family can hear her. She puts on an act for San, and Nagasumi’s family easily accepts her as well.

When Nagasumi’s parents introduce San to her room, she is amazed, though mentioning that it looks like a boy’s room. Nagasumi quickly realizes that it is actually his room. He wonders where he is going to stay, and his parents show him that he will be living in the attic. Everyone puts a guilt trip on him, asking if he would rather have San stay up there. San doesn’t want to steal Nagasumi’s room, but he replies that it is ok. He wonders why he feels more like an adult when he talks with San….and why Maki always brings him back to a child’s level.

Later, Nagasumi is in the bath thinking of his situation. He thinks to himself that he has to pull it together, when San and Maki walk in. San panics and lets out her deadly scream, destroying part of the house. Nagasumi’s parents look to see what the commotion is about, and are surprised when they find out that it is San’s doing. However, she apologizes with some gold coins from her parents, so they don’t mind however many times she wants to destroy the house.

The next day, Nagasumi and San have turned the once boy’s room into a girl’s room. Nagasumi suggests that they go into town now, and San wants to bring Maki along. However, Nagasumi suggests that it would be rude to wake her from her peaceful sleep. San agrees, bringing Nagasumi to a lot of joy.

They go into town, and San is amazed at how many convenience stores there are. Nagasumi brings her to many places where San enjoys herself. At the end of the trip, they are relaxing on a bridge above the river. Nagasumi thinks about how good it feels to be alone with San. At home, Nagasumi’s mother is observing Maki’s peaceful sleep, while Maki talks about killing in her sleep.

Nagasumi and San finally decide to go home. However, they turn to see two men bullying a girl on the opposite side of the bridge. San wants to stop them because of her mermaid duty, but Nagasumi tries to stop her because it would cause trouble. At that moment they hear a whistle coming from a short girl. She threatens the bullies as the girls they were bullying run off. San is amazed by her, and is surprised that it is one of Nagasumi’s acquaintances. Nagasumi tells San that she is Zenigata Mawari, a school enforcer that he has known since elementary school. The bullies are very mad at Mawari, but she says that if they want to fight anyone is should be Nagasumi. Mawari says that when Nagasumi was trying to stop San, he really meant “I’ll go instead”. San is very surprised at hearing this, thinking that she is a failure of a wife for not realizing this. Nagasumi panics at this obvious mistake. They go to attack him, and realizing that he can’t take both of the bullies on at once, Nagasumi grabs both of them and jumps into the river.

The only thing that this does is piss the two bullies off. They attack Nagasumi, but Mawari jumps off the bridge to stomp on one of them. She tells Nagasumi that she came to save him, but Nagasumi knows that Mawari can’t swim. She panics and grabs on to Nagasumi which causes them both to struggle. The two bullies go to attack again, but they are pulled under the water by San and attacked by her sonic scream attack.

When they reach land, Nagasumi tells Mawari that she should stop making such actions and act more like a girl. Mawari gives Nagasumi an innocent look, wondering if he still doesn’t see her as a girl. Nagasumi thinks that this is one of those situations that he wouldn’t want San to see, turning around to realize that she just did. San floats away down the river, and Nagasumi realizes that she has reverted to her mermaid form in the water. Nagasumi suggests to Mawari that San is floating down stream and he has to save her, as he goes to help her.

After Nagasumi is done rubbing off San’s legs and her legs revert to their human form, they distance themselves a bit embarrassed. Nagasumi tries to apologize to San for what she saw earlier, but is San exclaims how cool standing up to the bullies looked. However, Maki who is finally awake, arrives at the scene and starts shooting Nagasumi. She distracts San by saying there is something in the distance again, and pulls out a dagger to attack him. Mawari comes out through the bushes, wondering what Nagasumi is doing. He pretends that Maki is a doll and plays with her. Mawari is pretty disturbed by this, but doesn’t want to say anything about Nagasumi’s hobbies. He thinks to himself that he has lost something important, but probably saved a life in the process. Upon seeing Mawari, San goes to praise her for what she did earlier, and thinks they can be very good friends. However, upon hearing that Mawari’s father is a police officer, San panics and tries to apologize for something. Since San’s family is the Yakuza and Mawari’s is the police, they are worst enemies.

Back at Nagasumi’s house, San is taking a bath with Maki, thinking about the events that happened earlier. This time, Nagasumi walks in to get another scream from San and some more shots from Maki. Mawari is taking a bath at her house to, wondering what San’s acquaintance is with Nagasumi.

Preview: San starts attending Nagasumi’s school, and Nagasumi finds some unexpected visitors.

Impression:

Like I hoped, this episode was a lot better than the last. I don’t know, I guess it’s just more fun to see Nagasumi and San together without interruption. They did the overused cherry blossoms scene again early in the episode, but it was hilarious to see Nagasumi try to swat them away on the bridge when San wanted to stop the bullies. I really like how San’s seyui is doing her voice. It’s growing on me. Mawari is another childhood friend love comedy stereotype, but she was actually pretty funny to watch. I was thinking that if this episode disappointed me I would drop the show, but it looks like there is still hope!
