Sola – 04

Koyori’s friends visit her in the hospital, thinking that she is the same as always. Koyori tells them that she isn’t lonely because her sister visits her every day and there is someone she plays with at the hospital. They ask her if that person is a friend, or if they were mistaken. Koyori pauses for a moment, before deciding that she thinks that person is a friend. Of course, we see that person is Aona.

At Yorito’s house, Matsuri is observing one of the dolls he is going to give to Aona. He asks her opinion on it, and she replies that it is very cute. Yorito is surprised but agrees with her, as Mana arrives at their house. Mana greets Matsuri with a “Good Morning” but Matsuri replies with “Good Night”. Mana asks if she is going to sleep, and Yorito tells her that Matsuri is that kind of person. Mana presents Matsuri with some clothes, then heads off to school with Yorito.

After classes are over, Yorito asks Mana’s opinion on the doll she bought for Aona. She replies that it is no good, but is surprised when Yorito tells her that Matsuri liked it. They go to a dark doll shop, where Yorito starts to pick out another doll for Aona. Mana suggests that he stop brining dolls to Aona, since she doesn’t seem to like them. However, Yorito tells her that until Aona can return home, the dolls with keep her company in his place.

When the two enter Aona’s room, Mana is surprised that her sister isn’t there, so she excuses herself to go to her room. Koyori apologizes to Mana for having to come every day, but Mana thinks that Koyori should just act more like a little sister. Seeing that she is still feeling down, Mana asks Koyori if she still hasn’t told Aona about her leaving the hospital. Mana asks if she should help, but Koyori replies that she can do it herself. Mana agrees that it would be the best that way.

At the restaurant Mana works at, Sae wonders if she is thinking about Yorito again, but finds out that she is wrong. She pushes her off when customers arrive, and we see that it is Tsujidou and Mayuko again. Sae expresses to Mana her interest in Tsujidou, while Mana says she is more concerned about Mayuko. After being served, Tsujidou expresses that they would need to find ‘it’ soon.

Aona and Koyori are both awake at night in their separate hospital rooms. Koyori remembers the time she met Aona. She had made her way to the vending machine area at night when she found Aona sitting alone. She had asked her why she was there and introduced herself, but didn’t get a reply. Upon asking for Aona’s name, she told her that the vending machine had given her the wrong drink. Koyori offered to lend a hand, but Aona replied that there was no need. After sitting back down, Koyori noticed the origami on the bench and once again tried to start a conversation. However, she once again received no reply from Aona. She had given up and started to leave, but before doing so she asked if Aona could sleep on the hospital beds. The two found that they both could no sleep on the hospital beds because it was lonely.

The next day, Yorito and Mana once again visit Aona in her room. However, upon greeting her, Aona asks Mana where Yorito is. Mana is surprised when she finds that he isn’t there, and walks outside the room to find him sitting outside because he doesn’t have the courage to see his sister. After she drags him inside the room, Yorito asks Aona about her condition. Aona replies that she feels normal so she wants to go home. When Yorito asks about the treatment, she says that she doesn’t need it and would rather go home even if she collapsed. They receive a knock at the door, finding that it is Koyori. Aona asks Yorito where today’s doll is, but he had forgotten it. He apologizes and promises to bring two the next day, but Aona turns it into five. Mana wonders if Aona really appreciates the dolls, because Yorito has no taste. However, Koyori tells her not to say that, because even if he doesn’t have any sense, he brings a lot. Aona tells them that there are 36, and tomorrow there would be 41. They are surprised that there are so many and at how well she remembered. Mana asks if she has a favorite, Aona pulls the one she likes the best out of the basket, and Yorito notices that it is the first one that he had brought. Everyone smiles, then Koyori tries to tell Aona that she has something to talk to her about. However, upon looking down and seeing a discarded piece of origami, she loses her courage and runs out of the room.

After Mana chases after Koyori to her room, she finds her crying on her bed. Koyori embraces Mana and continues to cry, as night falls. As they head home, Yorito assures Mana that it would alright between the two, and she agrees because it is her little sister. This time it is Koyori sitting at the vending machine area when Aona finds her. Aona introduces herself to Koyori even though she already knows. Aona tells her that she had not mentioned her name the first time they met. Aona asks Koyori if she had gotten the wrong drink from the machine, but Koyori tells her that she had chosen it herself. She asks Aona if she would like to try the coffee, suggesting that she would be surprised. Hesitantly, Aona tries the coffee. Aona still doesn’t like the taste of it, but mentions that it is warm. Koyori tells Aona that when they first met, she thought Aona was an interesting person when she saw the origami. Aona says that it is normal, when Koyori admits that she wanted to learn origami from her back then. Aona offers to teach Koyori how to make origami because they are friends. Koyori is touched and finally comes up with the courage to tell Aona about her leaving.

At daylight we see a lot of origami on the bench, as well as a cup of coffee. Koyori enters Aona’s room in a school uniform with Yorito and Mana, promising that she will come again. Later, Yorito is bringing Koyori home from the restaurant that Mana works at. Tsujidou glares at Yorito through the window. Mayuko asks him what the matter is, but he replies that it is nothing.

Impression:

Yea this is a bit late cause I was a bit tied up. When I watched this last night I was really disappointed. It was almost as bad as the last episode, definitely not as good as the first two. It seemed like they were trying to make the show more slice of life show but it wasn’t working well. However, after blogging it this morning I thought it was decent. It was nice to see Aona and Koyori’s character development at least. Maybe I just couldn’t appreciate it last night because I watched it right after rewatching the Evangelion movie lol. Either way, this show isn’t making my favorites list for the new season’s shows. I think I’ll manage to keep blogging it though, as long as the next few episodes get better.

As far as site news goes, Subculture has reached over 1000 visits and over 7000 hits! I think this is a very good milestone, considering the site is only about two weeks old. I hope for more to come, and I thank everyone for visiting!
