Sola – 07

Yorito is outside during daybreak, surprised to find that it is morning already. Aona eats breakfast alone while looking at a note on the table, calling Yorito a liar. Takeshi cannot find Mayuko in the church, and thinks it has to do with her interest in the ‘calamity of night’. He hears people coming, so he hides himself. Yorito and Mana enter, looking for clues about Matsuri. Yorito believes she might have been there because there is evidence of people living there, but Mana thinks that she might have went far out of town to hide herself from Yorito. At school, Sae and Mana’s other friends wonder what she and Yorito were doing together in the morning. Yorito is on the roof as usual, wondering what Matsuri meant by what she said on the night she left.

Koyori brings in groceries for Aona at the Morimiya house. While eating the popsicle Aona has rewarded her with, Koyori mentions that it would be nice if Matsuri came back soon. Aona asks if Koyori thinks Matsuri will really come back. Koyori thinks that she will, because of Yorito’s skies. With this, Aona remembers a time when Yorito told her that he wanted to show Matsuri the sky.

Yorito searches different places for Matsuri throughout the afternoon. When he gets home, he is surprised to find Aona and Koyori reorganizing the furniture. He notices that the pictures of the sky have been taken down, so he asks Aona why. She tells him that it was for no particular reason, making him very angry. Before he leaves the room, Koyori stops him. She tells him that Aona took them down because she didn’t want him to have any painful memories. Yorito doesn’t understand her logic, because Matsuri had not said goodbye and might come back. After Yorito leaves, Aona comforts a crying Koyori, thanking her for speaking for her sake.

Outside, Yorito wonders to himself what he is doing, when Aona shows up to return one of his pictures. He apologizes to her for becoming angry, but Aona tells him that she was wrong for doing such a thing. Yorito suggests that they take a walk, and Aona agrees to. While they enjoy themselves in the town, Yorito tells Aona the reason he continued to search for Matsuri, despite realizing that she probably wouldn’t come back. The abandoned church catches Yorito’s attention again, so they enter. Yorito observes the sky through the destroyed roof, while Aona walks behind.

The next morning, Aona cooks breakfast, so Mana and Koyori come over to eat. Mana and Yorito notice that it is time to head to school, but before they leave, Aona reminds Yorito of their promise. Aona walks upstairs to choose a set of clothes to wear. She also starts to change her hair, when Koyori walks in on her. She informs her that she is going to school soon as well, but Aona gives her a chop to the head out of embarrassment.

At school, Sae rambles about her usual obsession with ‘beardy’ to Mana. Takeshi has been searching for Mayuko. After classes are over, Yorito and Mana walk outside to find Aona waiting with an umbrella for Yorito. They leave Mana, as she wonders to herself how Aona could consider the rainy day as good weather. Yorito and Aona make their way to the doll shop he usually visits. Yorito makes a lot of suggestions, but they eventually leave empty handed. Aona tells him that she only wanted to see the place where Yorito went every day to buy them.

Aona tells Yorito that she wants to see the town from above, so they ride the rails up to higher ground. As they observe the city, Aona mentions how wonderful the world is, because of its many colors. The wind blows the umbrella out of Aona’s hands, causing Yorito to have another flashback of Matsuri. Aona lets the rain hit her face, but Yorito shelters her with his own umbrella, warning her not to catch a cold.

Yorito suggests that they go home because she is so wet, but Aona mentions that they promised to visit the restaurant where Mana works. Yorito gives in, but tells Aona to wait as he enters a convenience store to look for a towel first. While he searches for one, a tomato juice can rolls to his feet. He looks up in shock to find Matsuri standing in front of him. Yorito starts to chase her as she runs, but Aona tries to stop him by grabbing on to his hand and telling him not to go. Yorito apologizes to Aona, and continues to chase Matsuri outside. Yorito catches up to Matsuri, but loses her again when she uses her powers to fly away. Elsewhere, Aona is alone, asking herself why this is happening. She remembers that Matsuri had promised not to show herself to the both of them anymore.

Yorito finally finds Matsuri in an abandoned building. Mayuko is sleeping inside, but Matsuri hides her before Yorito can see her. Yorito tells Matsuri to come home, but Matsuri tries to explain that it isn’t possible. However, Yorito embraces her before she can give him a reason. Yorito tells her that he still hasn’t fulfilled his promise. Outside, Aona loses herself, and Matsuri becomes shocked to find that Yorito has stabbed her with a piece of broken glass.

Impression:

This was a pretty awesome episode. I was at the edge of my seat as soon I saw Matsuri at the convenience store. The story becomes more mysterious as well, with Matsuri hiding Mayuko in the abandoned house. Aona reveals more of her power as well. It looks like she can control various things, or at least she can control Yorito. I am interested to see how everyone’s pasts are revealed. Maybe Yorito has lost his memory at some point? Either way, this episode leaves us with a pretty big cliffhanger. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out in the next episode.

Aono wants Yorito for herself. Matsuri is in her way of establishing a monopoly with Yorito’s affection.

Hmm… a love triangle, eh? That’s definitely interesting… but yet Matsuri’s not competing for Yorito’s heart… peculiar, to say the least. :|

Is Yorito a blood creation of Aona’s? Like the paper frog…”My very own brother.” I’m guessing that’s why she was so ill. She needed so much blood to create a boy, recreate her Yorito.
