Hayate no Gotoku - 08
After having breakfast in Nagi’s mansion, Sakuya leaves for school with her servants. Hayate suggests that Nagi should get ready to go to school as well, but she finds an excuse not to. Maria notices that she doesn’t want to go because she will be separated from Hayate. While cleaning outside, Maria takes the chance to ask Hayate about his feelings for Nagi. However, Hayate mistakes this as Maria asking about his feelings toward herself. Nagi calls Hayate to her room, so he tells her that they will continue the conversation later.
At school, Miki, Izumi, and Zeriha notice that Nagi is absent from school again. They become interested in her new butler, and decide to check it out. Meanwhile in the mansion, Nagi wants Hayate to try on a girl’s sailor outfit. Hayate resists, but ends up having it forced on anyways. He knows that it will be bad news if Klause found him like that, but he is even more worried about the embarrassment he would receive if Maria saw him. Of course, Maria has already walked into the room, and instead of helping him, she suggests more girl’s clothes for him to wear with Nagi. Hayate tries to escape, but steps on a game controller, revealing his attempt. He ends up in a neko outfit this time, which Maria and Nagi find to be quite fitting.
Tama wakes up during the comotion, and upon seeing Hayate, gets hearts in his eyes. Tama pushes Hayate out of the window, and starts crushing him outside. Hayate manages to push him off, but Klause starts walking by right afterwards. Hayate tries to sneak away but is caught again because of the random game controller. Klause goes after Hayate while he runs away, and manages to knock him down due to one of Hayate’s mistakes. However, upon seeing his face, he has the same reaction as Tama. Klause tries to leap on Hayate, but Nagi and Maria knock him out to stop him. Miki, Izumi, and Zeriha, who have been hiding behind a tree, mistake Hayate as the Sanzenin’s new ‘maid’ instead of the new butler. However, they are satisfied with this, and leave.
While Hayate bandages himself in the mansion’s infirmary, he is greeted by Isumi, who has been sleeping there for a while. Since it is already late, Maria suggests that she should just stay the night. She agrees, and everyone bids each other a good night. While walking in the halls at night, Hayate notices that there is a light on in one room. He finds Maria, who is playing pool by herself. Maria asks Hayate to join her, seeing it as another opportunity to talk to him about Nagi. Hayate mentions how well Isumi and Nagi get along, so Maria tells him how they became such great friends. When they were younger, Sakuya and a few others looked at Nagi’s manga, but made fun of it. Nagi threw the manga in the trash out of anger, but Isumi picked it up. Nagi tried to stop her, thinking that Isumi wanted to make fun of her as well, but was surprised to find that she was very interested in it.
Hayate jokingly suggests that they place bets, but Maria takes it seriously. They decide that the loser will do anything the winner wants them to. Hayate is very shocked to find that Maria is actually very good at pool. He continues to watch himself lose, and on one of his turns, Maria suggests that if he lost he would have to marry Nagi. This messes up his shot, but he than tells Maria very seriously that he could never do that. He thinks doing that would make him look like he married her for money, and he wouldn’t want to do that because Nagi is very important to him. Maria sees that Hayate is a very good person, but she misses her winning shot because of her thinking. Hayate takes his turn and actually manages to win. However, before he can tell Maria what he wants her to do, he finds a very angry Nagi behind him. Nagi tells him that she would never forgive him for laying a hand on Maria, and beats him up. As Nagi and Isumi head back to their room to sleep, Hayate tells Maria that all he wanted her to do was to forgive him for the destroyed coat.
Preview: Hayate goes to the school at night to get something Nagi forgot, meeting Hinagiku while he is there.
Impression:
This episode wasn’t an extremely funny episode like the rest, but one that actually showed a bit of character development. I still love Isumi as a character, and the way she became friends with Nagi was so great. “Marry me!” lol. Hayate as a trap was pretty funny, but the outfit he had on at the end of the episode was almost disturbing xD. If was hilarious when they blocked Tama’s humping with the usual sign, and how they used Miki, Izumi, and Zeriha’s small roles as a joke again. They also had Hayate’s old friend show up as usual. Klause’s liking of Hayate’s trap form reminded me of Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~ and Shiratori’s friend. Oh yea, and the random controller was hillarous! How did it end up outside for the second time xP? They’re definitely going through the story at a much faster pace than the manga, with Hayate’s encounter with Hinagiku in the next episode.
