Seto no Hanayome – 09

A boy commands a submarine crew, as he searches for San. Meanwhile, everyone is having gym class. The girls are playing volleyball, and Luna is constantly getting hit in the face with the ball. On the boys side, Saru notices a noise coming from somewhere. A submarine suddenly bursts from the ground, and the boy from earlier comes out introducing himself as Mikawa Kai. After greeting San with flowers, Nagasumi wonders what relationship he has with her. Kai throws a large amount of money into the air, causing some of the students to go after it. Mawari notices that his family is from the Mikawa group, a very large and wealthy company. Kai reveals that he knows San’s identity as a mermaid, causing conflict with Nagasumi while everyone else listens in wonder.

Kai reveals that he met San when he was younger through their parents. San started talking to a hesitant Kai about her arguments with Luna, but Kai stated that it was a proof of friendship. He told her that his parents would shower him with money, but would just ignore him otherwise. After noticing his kindness, San started playing house with him. At first, San choose to be the wife and Kai was the husband. However, after San’s act, Kai suggested to try something else. The second time, San is the mother, and Kai chooses to be a submarine because of the obsession he has with them.

Because of that time, Kai has chosen to go after San. Believing that he can make San more happy, Kai challenges Nagasumi. However, after pushing him outside, Kai remembers that he started to hate the sunlight because of what happened during one of his family’s business trips. He offers a large sum of money for someone to save him, when San appears. She remembers that the Kai she knew hated money, but now he would try to get anything with it. San tells him that she would save him anytime without money, and offers her hand. With this, Kai thanks her for making him realize what he has done, and leaves on his submarine. He tells Nagasumi that the challenge will wait until the next time they meet.

However, everyone is surprised when Kai transfers to their school. While Iinchou tries to discuss the upcoming events with the class, Kai declares that the sports festival is his chance to challenge Nagasumi. The first event is the girls’ race, and San wins despite the large distraction she receives from her father. Once the boys’ race starts, Kai shows up in a large space suit to avoid the sunlight. The suit only makes him unable to move, so Nagasumi easily beats him and gets first place. In the next race, where they must find a certain thing to bring with them, Nagasumi chooses San, but Luna and Mawari get in the way. Kai manages to win, but notices that tears are flowing from his eyes as the girls argue over Nagasumi.

At lunch time, Nagasumi enjoys a lunch made by San and Luna, as his mother offers a lunch to Masa. Kai looks with envy, noticing that he is stuck with a hungry Saru. During the next event, Kai breaks his helmet but is saved by Saru. He notices that their white team will win at this point, but when Ren notices that San’s team is losing, Gouzaburou makes a ridiculous announcement to change that. However, Kai reminds Nagasumi what their challenge is really about, declaring the next race as the deciding event. Nagasumi is surprised by Kai’s incredible speed, and worries about losing while it starts to rain. With this, Kai transforms back into a whale, while San and Luna also transform into their mermaid forms. Kai’s submarine bursts from the ground with Saru on top of it, and fires missiles at Nagasumi. San decides to save Nagasumi, using her voice to put everyone and the missiles to sleep. Once everyone returns to the classroom, San notices that a rainbow has appeared.

Preview: Someone is coming.

Impression:

This episode was pretty funny, although extremely fast paced and chaotic. It seems like Kai was just thrown in as another rival for Nagasumi. I don’t really like his character, although it is funny that he is a hikkomori. They made a complete parody of the sports event, as nothing happened as it usually should. The random service shots of the girls was great. They even started to play the singles from the last episode in the background. The little things, such as Fujishiro asking if he could eat the students and Iinchou getting ignored, were pretty funny too, but it seemed like they were thrown at you. I really don’t know what to expect from the next episode, but it looks like it will be pretty interesting.
