Hayate no Gotoku – 10

Maria is singing in a concert, but is interrupted when the TV shuts off. Inside the mansion, Nagi is playing a game while Sakuya watches. When Nagi loses, the game starts insulting both of them. This makes them both angry, as they start beating on the console. After Maria walks in, they all leave to eat while a dark aura surrounds the console.

The next morning, Maria wakes Nagi and tells her to prepare for school. Sakuya leaves before her after breakfast, when the scene shifts to Nagi analyzing the scene through a TV. Sakuya walks in on the console to find that it has come to life, so she has her servants spray it with fire extinguishers. However, before they can finish the job, a large amount of takoyaki comes out from the TV to stop them.

The last boss is revealed as Maou the Demon Queen, who is stuck to her throne. She tries to lure people in to free her by putting game controllers throughout the real world, but almost all of them go unnoticed. However, Izumi, Miki, and Risa, who have stopped by the mansion to see Hayate get caught after Miki picks one of the controllers up. They find themselves inside the game world, with a large slime monster facing them. Risa is quickly killed, which worries Maou because no will will be able to save her if they all die. She uses a lightning bolt to defeat the monster, though it almost kills Izumi as well.

Isumi, who is wandering around the mansion, senses an evil spirit. However, after opening the door she suspects it is in, she only finds the bath. Elsewhere, Ayumu has a horoscope countdown, but is cut off before getting to number one. Saki then announces the continuation of Hayate no Gotoku while in the rental video store. Isumi decides to take a bath, while the camera observes her.

Back in the game world, Maki makes a call for help with her cellphone. Hinagiku appears very quickly, after using a stick to defeat the monsters on the way there. The girls explain to her the situation, but she doesn’t believe them because it is so unrealistic. Hinagiku expresses her want to finish quickly, while Maou drops gear to help them.

Meanwhile, Nagi starts to read some fan letters. The first one she reads expresses their surprise that Maria is only 17, leaving Maria depressed for being believed to be old. Izumi, Miki, Risa, and Hinagiku finally reach Maou, but she defeats herself before they even do anything. With this, everyone returns to the real world without any memory of what happened.

Impression:

As a TV original episode, this episode was pretty crazy. There was a lot of jumping between different worlds, lots of random fanservice, and a huge amount of parodies. Some of the parts I found the most funny in this episode include Maria talking to “Hata-sensei” (the creater of Hayate no Gotoku) in the opening, Maria and Hayate’s image song parodies with Maria as Meer (GSD) and Hayate as a trap, and Hayate being no where to be found in the episode – especially at the end when only Nagi showed up with Maria. Hearing Yuko Goto voicing Maou was really nice as well. It’s back to the manga story line in the next episode, which will be a bit more “friendly”.
