Hayate no Gotoku - 11

Maria convinces a hesitant Nagi to visit her grandfather, the head of the Sanzenin family. Sakuya joins them on their flight there, claiming to be a member of the family as well. When Hayate asks them what kind of person Nagi’s grandfather is, they tell him that he is someone that could easily wipe out his existence. When they get closer to the residence, Hayate is shocked to see that it is as large as a castle. After landing, a line of butlers and maids greet Nagi, Sakuya, and Maria. Hayate is captured in the back for looking suspicious, but his capturers are surprised to hear that he is actually Nagi’s butler. Everyone makes fun of Hayate inside, before he is sent outside again so that they can change.

While walking outside, Hayate thinks to himself that just one of the vases he sees could pay off his debt. However, a voice tells him that it is not nearly enough to do so. Hayate tries to claim his innocence, and turns around to see a friendly looking old man. The old man believes that Hayate wouldn’t do something like steal the vase, and claims to have good insight. To prove this to Hayate, he convinces him to follow him. The place he brings him to is a ledge with a view of the room where everyone is changing. Hayate sees that this is just peeping, and drags the man away.

After being led away, the old man asks Hayate how he ended up with such a large debt. Hayate explains to him what his parents did to him, and how grateful he is to Nagi for saving him. Hayate then decides to take his leave, but the man stops him before he can by saying his life has no meaning. The man reveals himself as Mikada Sanzenin, and throws Hayate a pendant. Mikada tells Hayate to use it as a guide, if he still believes his life still has meaning. Afterwards, Mikada asks Nagi if he wants the Sanzenin family’s inheritance. Nagi tells him that she doesn’t really care for it, but would be glad if he died. Because of what he taught her, Nagi has large financial investments already. Nagi gets really angry after Mikada pulls out one of her manga, causing him to go for Maria for comfort. Maria wonders why he is bringing this up all of a sudden, so Mikada says that if this goes on, Nagi may die.

Hayate is outside reflecting on his life, which is devoted only to repaying a debt. Nagi appears to interrupt his thoughts, telling him that they are going home. Hayate wonders what happened, and Nagi replies that it is something that will happen. This is proved, when a foreign man comes to attack them. He introduces himself as Gilbert, someone after the Sanzenin inheritance. We are taken back to the point where Mikada tells the reason why Nagi may die. Mikada claims to not have much longer to live, so his inheritance will be hers. However, some of their relatives do not agree with that, so he promised to give the inheritance to someone else under a certain condition.

If a person could make Nagi cry and apologize to them, they would get the inheritance. Nagi would rather die than do something like that, so she refuses to do so despite Gilbert’s begging. This makes him attack Hayate, hearing that Nagi might do so if he was hurt. Hayate imagines that if Nagi doesn’t get the inheritance, she would become poor like he was. Not wanting this to happen, Hayate dodges Gilbert’s attacks, and finishes him off with a kick. Hayate promises to Nagi that he will protect her from anyone. After becoming very embarrassed, Nagi agrees and takes his hand. Inside, Sakuya insists that she has not received a gift from Mikada yet, but he replies by informing her that everyone has already left her behind.

Preview: Ayumu finally meets Hayate again.

Impression:

I really don’t remember Hayate’s pendant having such an evil aura around it. Well anyways, I thought this episode was pretty boring to be honest. I didn’t really even laugh until the preview. This was the show I was looking forward to the most this season, but maybe it’s just not meeting my expectations because of the manga. We finally meet Mikada Sanzenin, but from I remember, he doesn’t really play that big of a role after this. Hayate’s devotion to Nagi showed up again, and this time he put his life in question. That may add a bit more to the show’s minimal plot, but Hayate is really a show built around gags. I think the next episode with Ayumu should be funnier.
