Hayate no Gotoku - 12

After describing his irresponsible parents to the class, a young Hayate prepares to tell them about his future prospects. Hayate wakes up from this dream, wondering if what Mikada said made him remember this. Later, Hayate asks Maria about her future aspirations, but her dreams are more concerned towards a certain someone. Upon asking why he asked her all of a sudden, Hayate goes on about how dreams are the motivation in peoples’ lives. Hayate notices that Maria is acting a bit strange as he says these things, but quickly goes off to work. Nagi wakes up in her room, remembering Hayate’s promise to her. Nagi notices that the halls are sparkling when she walks out of her room. When Maria tells her that Hayate had been talking about his future plans, Nagi imagines that he may have been thinking for her sake. Knowing that Nagi’s imagination is probably wrong, Maria changes the subject to her own dreams. Nagi replies that it is only natural for people to have dreams, and one of hers is to become a manga author.

Maria decides to ask Hayate what his dream is. Hayate is a bit embarrassed at first, believing that his dream might be too big, but he finally replies that he wants a 3LDK. When he told the told the class this, everyone was crying. Maria decides to send Hayate out to buy himself a new cellphone, and suggests that he take the rest of the day off. After purchasing his new phone with several features, Hayate decides to stop by his old school. Hayate starts to walk past the gate, but is shocked when he hears a voice behind him. He turns to see that it is Ayumu, who has been worried about where he has been. Hayate tells her what happened to him, but the story is so unbelievable that she thinks he is joking.

Ayumu mentions that she is glad to see him either way, when some of their classmates appear. Also surprised to see Hayate, one of them mentions to Ayumu how great it is for her, but he gets beat up because Ayumu doesn’t want him to say anything embarrassing. Hayate thanks her for worrying about him, and wonders if he should return to school. However, a teacher walks by and tells them that Hayate is a dropout, because his parents came to take the fees back. Seeing that it isn’t possible to return, Hayate starts to leave, but Ayumu stops him and confesses her feelings. Hayate apologizes to her, and gives the excuse that he only likes 2D characters. Ayumu beats Hayate up because of this, then walks away with tears in her eyes. After Hayate returns to the mansion, Nagi excitedly adds her number to his cellphone. Elsewhere, Ayumu drowns her sorrows with food.

On another day, Ayumu returns some videos to Wataru’s store. Saki remembers that the guy she confessed to quit school, and Ayumu tells them that she has not been able to find him. After she rents another video from Wataru’s suggestion, Hayate enters to return some videos shortly after. Even though they missed each other, Ayumu goes back after forgetting something. Seeing Hayate walk out, Ayumu thinks that it must be fate that they have met again. He doesn’t hear her cries, so Ayumu gives chase. When she sees Hayate walk into the mansion, she thinks that he must have been captured by the Yakuza. After thinking this, she finds herself surrounded by the mansion’s guards.

After being informed of the suspicious person, Maria notices Ayumu’s schoolbag through the security camera. She tells them to let her go, but Ayumu takes this as her chance to run away. Finding herself on the mansion grounds, Ayumu notices how unbelievable the mansion is. When she turns around, she sees Tama looking at her. Ayumu starts running for her life, and Tama chases her because of his instincts. Ayumu screams for help, and Hayate appears to kick Tama into submission. Ayumu suggests to Hayate that they escape, when Nagi arrives. Hayate introduces the two to each other, but what they both feel is instant rivalry. Ayumu senses defeat, so she runs away for now. Nagi tells Hayate that he can’t leave her, and he reassures her that he isn’t going anywhere. Later, Nagi remembers when Hayate told her that some people cannot go to school, and all the times that he saved her. Nagi decides to repay Hayate’s feelings by doing something for him in return.

Preview: Nagi invites Hayate to her school.

Impression:

A 3LDK is like a multiple bedroom house with a living room and kitchen. The point is, it’s not the most amazing dream in the world. I really liked this episode. I love how they can almost make it a “serious” love comedy, even though it never will be. Ayumu is actually a pretty cool character, even if she is a minor one. I also find it interesting how they can pair arcs together differently from the manga, and make it work so well. I loved Maria’s expressions in this episode, especially when the guards let Ayumu get away xD. Nagi finally gets preparations made for Hayate to attend her school in the next episode. I remember liking that arc a lot in the manga, so I think it will be good too. Uguu~
