Devil May Cry – 02

OP: “d.m.c” by rungran – The OP is just the Devil May Cry theme, with no vocals. It’s pretty fitting for the show though. We get lots of cool looking shots of Dante and the other characters. Many people will probably notice scenes from the game, such as the infamous spider boss.

Short Summary:

Dante is offered a job from his acqaintence Lady, another demon hunter. He refuses as usual, but is forced to go after losing her bet. Dante ends up having to race a man named Vincent, who lost his brother to the highway. While the two race, Vincent sees a vision of his brother speeding in front of him, but Dante realizes that it is an illusion. After destroying the bridge and having Vincent move to the side, Dante and Lady finish off the demon bike. Vincent thanks Dante at the Devil May Cry later, and requests another race with him. Dante agrees to, but only if he can win his bet…

Full Summary:

Observers look as one biker speeds past those around him. After declining to slow down and leaving them behind, he notices a red light coming from behind him. Refusing to lose, he speeds up to catch it, but this leads to his death. Elsewhere, a man takes cover from the rain, and notices a hooded woman standing next to him. He guesses that she is waiting for her boyfriend, but tells her to forget about him. The woman agrees to his offer to take her somewhere else, but surprises him by leading the way. The man wonders what she is up to when she leads him to an empty warehouse, and suggests that there is nothing there. She proves him wrong by opening a door, revealing numerous skulls. She wonders if he has forgotten about these victims, who went missing after being taken away by a man in similar cases. The man wonders if he looks like that kind of person to her, but she replies that he does not look human at all. With this, the man transforms into a demon and attacks her. Although he knocks away her initial gun, she reveals two more and finishes him off. Two highway officers come in afterwards, referring to her as Lady. When she asks what they want, they offer her a job.

At the Devil May Cry, Patty criticizes the shop’s appearance while she decorates. Patty excitedly guesses that there is a customer after hearing a call from outside, but finds that it is just another pizza delivery for Dante. Patty wonders when a customer will come, and suggests again that it must be the appearance. Dante suggests that she is wrong by reminding her of the pizza deliverer’s reaction to the room, and tells her to go back home. Patty turns around to greet a customer who has come in, but it is Lady who praises Dante’s new look. After taking a look around, she correctly guesses who Patty is. Patty excitedly wonders how she knows, so Lady tells Patty that her name has gotten around. Dante knows that Lady wouldn’t come just to see Patty, and wonders what she is there for. After hearing that Dante would refuse any work she offers, Lady decides to place a bet at the pool table. After clearly losing the bet, Dante asks who they are after this time. Lady replies that it is, of course, demons.

Dante finds himself at a biker’s gathering place, and hopes that Lady didn’t not mean they were the demons. Lady points out their tag and reputation, but Dante won’t accept her jokes. Dante prepares to leave, because he cannot use a sword or guns on humans, but Lady tells him to wait a bit. The music stops after Lady asks around for the leader of the group, and the leader introduces himself as Vincent. Despite Dante’s mocking, he tells them that there is a reason that he must ride. He tells them that his brother died on the highway, and he will avenge him. After presenting desirable conditions to Dante and Vincent, Lady convinces the two to race. Dante declines the helmet Lady offers to him, which makes Vincent throw off his own. Suggesting that he won’t be needing it at the moment, Dante also hands his sword to her.

Dante takes the lead, but Vincent activates the nitro injection in his bike to pass him at an incredible speed. After getting a bit further away, Vincent sees the same red light that his brother did. Dante clearly sees that it is a demon’s illusion, but cannot stop Vincent from going after it. Seeing that the bridge is causing this, Dante uses his guns to blow down the support beams. After Vincent falls to the side of the road, Lady throws Dante his sword. After reminding Lady that her guns will not work on the bike they are after, Dante speeds up to catch it. Dante gets in front of it and stabs it with his sword, to reveal that it is a demon. After Dante slashes it, Lady jumps up to finish the demon off with her rocket launcher. Vincent walks toward the remains afterwards, and screams over his lost brother. Later, at a now back to normal Devil May Cry, Dante gets a unfavorable phone call from Lady. Vincent then walks in, thanking Dante for saving him. He declares that he will not chase after his brother anymore, and ride for his own sake. Vincent requests another race, so Dante agrees to do so if he can win his bet. Patty rolls her eyes as she sees that Dante is using the same bet Lady used on him.

Preview: Not Love

Impression:

I wasn’t really into the whole bike racing thing, and I wish we could see more than two short demon fights. With that said, this episode was still pretty fun to watch. The opening really adds to my enjoyment, but you could say that about any show. It’s interesting that the english credits are shown right next to the japanese ones. They also keep most of the dialog off screen, making it even more obvious that they will be marketing this show in America quick. I find what they did with Patty’s role pretty funny, right after introducing her in the first episode. It was predictable, but this show really gives us what we expect to see. I’m sure a lot of people will be excited to see Lady from the games as well.

So, I went out and bought Devil May Cry 3 recently. I got it over the second one because I heard it was better, and the order I play the games won’t really matter. I’ll probably buy the second one after I beat this one, and the fourth installment when it comes out. Who says downloading raws/fansubs doesn’t promote the industry?

I thought this anime is so cheesey. Especially the 1st episode in the theatre.

I see the anime has promoted the game enough for you to get it :P
