Touka Gettan goes Ghost Hunt during a trip to the hot springs!

Short Summary:

Everyone catches the train for a group trip. After playing cards for awhile, Haruhiko takes a break to go to the bathroom, but on the way back, notices that something seems strange with the other passengers. After getting off at the station, they are driven to the mansion they are visiting, and the manager welcomes them. When Shouko notices two graves outside on the way to their room, the manager shuts the curtains to hide the view from her. After settling into their rooms, the girls decide to take a dip into the hot springs, and Haruhiko takes a peek. After dinner, Makoto and Asuna notice two children run by, and decide to go after them. However, they get taken in by them after opening a door. Similar disappearances happen with the other visitors. After playing table tennis, Momoka and Touka notice a carving near the ground with the names Hikari and Yukari on it. The manager appears behind the two and tells them that they are the names of herself and her younger sister. Momoka takes Touka to explore part of the mansion, and they finally find an open door to a small library. Momoka finds a diary that seems to belong to the manager, and reads a story about her sister’s death and the room that she was told to avoid. Touka and Momoka look out to see the manager with an axe, but start running away. They manage to escape inside a room, but are surprised to see what is on the other side.

Full Summary:

In the morning, Yumiko has started working on another story, while everyone else boards a train for their trip. After playing cards for awhile, Haruhiko decides to go to the bathroom. However, on the way back, he looks in the other train car to see that the passengers are in a zombie like state. Before he can think any more of this, he is called back for his turn in the game. After they get off at the station, they are welcomed by a strange looking man, before being driven to the large mansion. After being greeted by the manager, she starts leading everyone to their rooms. On the way there, Shouko looks outside to see two graves. However, the manager shuts the curtains to block her view from them. Makoto has prepared tea for herself and Momoka in their room, but when she looks up at Momoka, she finds that she is more concerned with the cookies. Makoto gets dragged along with Momoka to get the cookies from the other rooms, but they are shocked to find the butterfly triplets inside one of them. In the bath, Shouko mentions the graves she saw earlier. Asuna had also heard the manager warning Haruhiko and Touka not to go close to the rooms in the older part of the building. Meanwhile, the manager watches as the strange man from earlier puts lights the halls. Haruhiko has been enjoying himself on the guys’ side of the bath, when he overhears the girls playing around with each other. He decides to take a peek, but when he finally gets a chance to look, he is stopped by Kikyou.

Everyone enjoys dinner afterwards, especially Momoka who has started eating out of a whole bucket of rice. When they are served, they find that Kaya has been working there. The triplets are eating at another table, and Shouko wonders why they are there. Makoto has been keeping Asuna company in the bath. When they walk out, they notice a piece of candy on the ground. After looking down the hall, they see two children running across. They decide to go after them, unknowingly walking in the direction of the old building. Upon opening one of the doors, they get pulled in, and the children laugh afterwards. Kikyou pays respects to the graves outside, but seemingly gets caught by the children too. Shouko notices Makoto’s towel outside of the room, but gets taken in as well after opening it. Momoka has been losing badly against Touka in table tennis, and after the last serve, Momoka notices a carving near the ground. They see the names Hikari and Yukari on it, and realize that the date is quite old. The manager appears behind them, and explains that those were the names of herself and her younger sister. She explains that her younger sister died, before bidding them a good night. Afterwards, Momoka and Touka eat with Kaya. Momoka tries to ask about the manager, but Kaya does not want to talk about it. Haruhiko is still in the bath, spying on Niko, but he also gets caught by the children’s hands.

Momoka leads Touka to the old building out of curiosity, but eventually starts following Touka because she is scared. They check quite a few doors, not of which are unlocked. They finally find an unlocked door, opening up to a small library. Inside, Momoka has books crash onto her, one of them being the manager’s diary. She reads about the manager while she was younger. She had seen her new father take her younger sister into a room several times. Her sister would not laugh, and when she offered to play with her, she would decline. Her mother would tell her not to come into the room while she was with customers, and we see that it is because of prostitution. When her sister died, her step father did not attend the funeral, and her mother cried endlessly. Finally deciding to find out what is in the room the next day, she goes to the room with an axe, while her step father is inside. Momoka decides to stop reading before they can find out what happened, and they look up to see the manager with an axe. She reminds the two that she warned them not to go to these rooms, but Touka knocks her away before she can attack. They run away while the manager chases them, trying to unlock a chained door at the end of the hall. Touka manages to unlock it before the manager can reach them, but they find that there is daylight on the other side, with Yumiko’s story on the desk inside. Outside, Nene, Makoto, and Haruhiko drink tea while noticing what a great day it is.

Impression:

Welcome to the hot springs episode. Touka Gettan is officially a love comedy! I really liked this episode. The ghost story gave me so many Ghost Hunt and/or Higurashi vibes, only to find that it was the effects of Yumiko’s story afterwards. Momoka was as cute as ever, and the bath scenes were fun. I wouldn’t be surprised if they made them more revealing in the dvd release. Also note that Touka was the only one who was not shown in the hot springs…hmm. The episode preview has me VERY excited, with the title of Tabi (or journey) and a shot of a panicked chicken. You know what that means right? It means that we’ll be seeing the Yami to Boshi to Hon no Tabibito cameos!! I absolutely cannot wait for next week’s episode.
