Devil May Cry - 03
Dante is given the job to kill a demon that has fallen in love with a human. Meanwhile, Patty wants her television fixed, so she can watch her dramas!
Short Summary:
After falling down the steps one day, Angelina meets a man named Brad who heals her wound. They fall in love, and see each other regularly afterwards. Dante is offered a job from Angelina’s father Mike, asking him to kill Brad because he believes that he is a demon. Dante follows Brad, and witnesses his meeting of another demon. Brad does not intend to fight Dante, but wonders if love between demons and humans is possible. He is satisfied with Dante’s answer and prepares to die, but finds that Dante only finishes off the other demon. Angelina finds her father wounded at home, being sacrificed by their butler for demon power. Before the butler can kill Angelina, Dante appears to stop him. After Dante finishes off the demon that appears, Brad heals Mike’s wounds. Dante apologizes for not being able to fulfill Mike’s request, because he only kills demons. Back at the Devil May Cry, Patty sees that Dante looks happy, despite taking on another penniless job.
Full Summary:
A girl worries about her father scolding her for being late, as she runs down a set of stairs. She losses her footing and hurts herself, but a man appears to heal her wound. The man will not tell her if what he did was some sort of magic, but he introduces himself as Brad when she asks if they will ever meet again. They do meet again, as a happy couple. Later, the girl’s father refers to the girl as Angelina, as he tells her to stay in her room. Having their butler lock her room, he tells her that this is for her own good. Meanwhile at the Devil May Cry, Patty is very upset that their TV has broken. She tells Dante to buy a new one, but he reminds her that he doesn’t have any money. Morrison appears to drive Dante to a job offering, telling him that this job would pay a lot of money. Arriving at the mansion, Dante and Morrison meet Angelina’s father, Mike. Showing Dante a photo of the target, he tells Dante to kill Brad. Dante doesn’t believe that Brad is a demon, but Morrison tells him of the incidents that have been occurring. Mike mentions that the culprit was not believed to be human, and tells Dante that he saw Brad’s powers one night when he picked up his daughter. Meanwhile, Angelina has managed to escape the mansion to tell Brad about what she just overheard. She begs him to run away with her, but Brad tells her to go back home.
Later that night, Dante follows Brad into a bar. Sitting next to him, he orders a beer and pizza from the bartender. When Dante asks Brad what he is reading, he replies that it is a romance novel. After receiving his beer and having a toast with Brad, he asks Brad where he is from, noticing that he doesn’t look like he is from around their area. Brad does not answer, and leaves as Dante receives his pizza. Outside in an alleyway, Dante interferes with Brad’s meeting of another demon. The demon attacks Dante, but he easily drives it away with his guns. Dante is surprised to hear that Brad actually knows who he is, the famous devil hunter Dante. Brad has no intentions of running away after being confirmed to be a demon, but wants to ask one thing. Brad asks if Dante saw happiness between his demon and human parents, and although he cannot give him a solid answer, Dante replies that the couple’s love seemed genuine to him. Satisfied with this answer, Brad prepares to die. However, when Dante pulls the trigger to his gun, it is to finish off the demon who hid himself earlier. Later, Brad tells Dante how he became attached to the human world, and despairs that he cannot do anything for Angelina who was kind to him. Dante tells him that he may not be able to do anything as a demon, but he may be able to as a human.
Angelina hears a crash inside the mansion, and breaks out of her room to find out what it is. She finds her father injured in a pool of blood, and their butler behind her with a knife to her neck. When she asks why he is doing this, the butler explains that it is to obtain demon power. The butler prepares to kill Angelina as she tries to run away, but is stopped by blasts through the door. Dante appears to stop him, even though he claims that it is too late. Brad also crashes through one of the windows, and moves Angelina’s father out of the way. Dante drops from a chandelier to kill the massive demon that has appeared, and Brad prepares to heal Mike’s wounds afterwards. Mike declares that he will not let him win his daughter like this, but Brad replies that he just didn’t want to see Angelina’s sad face. Dante apologizes for not being able to complete the requested job, because he only kills demons. Back at the Devil May Cry, Patty complains impatiently to Morrison who is fixing the TV. Dante looks at a picture that was sent to him from a happy Brad and Angelina, while Morrison reminds him that he still has no money because of that. Morrison leaves after fixing the TV, and Patty mentions that Dante seems happy despite having no money. She says that it would be nice if the two could remain happy, and when she turns to look at Dante, she finds that he has fallen asleep with a smile on his face.

I thought this was an awesome episode. People who don’t like Patty need to chill out. I love her role in the Devil May Cry, and she just lightens up the mood. I also love Dante’s “pssh” responses to things like having olives left on his pizza. The happy ending was good, with Patty finally having the TV fixed and the pictures Dante receives. I think it was satisfying to Dante, because he is of course, half demon and half human. At first, I was iffy about the episodic story, but I think it works out. All of the stories so far have just fleshed out Dante’s sense of justice. I still didn’t think there was enough demon fighting in this episode, especially compared to the first episode, but I think the next episode will make up for it. We get to see Dante and Lady fighting, and finally see Trish!
In my gaming news, I beat Devil May Cry 3 with Dante and Vergil. I had a lot of fun with that, but when I tried to start playing DMC2, I was pretty let down. That game is really bad…I started replaying the first game and even it was a lot better. Oh well, maybe I was too overwhelmed by the third installment’s awesomeness. I’ll try picking it back up later, but I don’t think I really need to. I don’t think Lucia is even going to show up in the anime.

hmmm… been enjoying this anime…
is it just me or Brad and Angelina sounds familiar?
Brad Pitt…
Angelina Jolie…
XD
Sounds like a really cool episode. Shows that Dante definitely has side that uses his emotions.
I will watch this.
Thanks a lot! The subs aren’t out yet so you are all we’ve got! *hugs*
Yea, ADV also pre licenced Devil May Cry, so I would imagine that would hinder the subs as well.
Devil May Cry 2 doesn’t exist, by the way. It was Enzo! Enzo stole Dante’s clothes and ran off to some island!
And this episode was good in terms of showing how Dante has finally accepted Sparda and Eva’s union, and how he’s their son.
Liking a character just because she/he “lightens the mood” is a dull answer. Why is Patty living w/ him again?
