Nanatsuiro Drops – 01
OP: “Shining stars bless☆” by Kaori Utatsuki – I find this song pretty catchy. I like it, for a generic mahou shoujo/h-game adaption pop song anyways. KOTOKO wrote it, so that’s a plus. The animation is also pretty standard, showing all of the characters in the series.
Short Summary:
Akihime Sumomo accidentally bumps into Tsuwabuki Masaharu on the school grounds, spilling water all over him. She apologizes and starts crying, causing her friend Nadeshiko Yaeno to rush to the scene and threaten Masaharu. They clear up the misunderstanding, and their teacher Natsume Kisaragi takes the chance to have Masaharu help the gardening club. After setting up a sprinkler, Masaharu runs into a man who has a strange set of ears. The man gives him one of the drinks that he had dropped, before running off in panic. When Masaharu drinks this, mistaking it as his own, there is a flash of light. When he wakes up, he finds that he has changed into a small stuffed animal, and Sumomo is playing with him. Yaeno has Sumomo help her search for the now “missing” Masaharu, and Kisaragi takes the chance to take the stuffed animal to his study. After giving him some kind of magical medicine, Masaharu gains the ability to move and speak in his stuffed animal form. Kisaragi gives him an explanation on how he can change back into a human, none of which Masaharu understands, before sending him to Sumomo’s house with a message.
Sumomo is very excited to be the chosen girl who will help him, but Masaharu cannot tell her his real name. Because of this, Sumomo decides that his name will be Yuki-chan from now on. After putting on a magical ring that came with the letter, a red beam shoots out in the direction of the stars drops which she must collect. Following it to the school, they find that the star drop has fallen into a fountain. Using her magic, Sumomo generates a spoon like staff to catch the star drop, but Yuki-chan points out that it will not work without the magic words. They start trying to read them off of a book, but the star drop escapes them again. They follow it to the sprinkler that was set up earlier after Yuki-chan’s guess that it would be there, and this time, Sumomo successfully catches it. On the top of the school building, another mahou shoujo seems to want the star drops, and claims to herself that she will not allow Sumomo to have them. When they get home, Sumomo goes to sleep with Yuki-chan, and Masaharu explains that this was the start of their journey.
ED: “mo.o!” by LOVERIN TAMBURIN – Another song that just sounds like it fits with this series. It has all of the characters in their chibi forms. I like the opening a lot more.
Preview: School antics. It looks like Sumomo will be in full mahou shoujo gear too.
Impression:
Well, this was kind of silly. I’m not huge into mahou shoujo, but this seems like the usual magical girl or h-game adaption type show. The general story reminded me of the first Nanoha, and the chibi forms reminded me of Crescent Love. I did notice that the production values for this show seem really high though, and even geneon is sponsoring it. Expect this to be brought to the states soon after airing or sooner. I probably won’t be blogging this show because of lack of interest, and because I don’t want to be overwhelmed with all the new shows airing this season. I might watch a bit more of it though. Sumomo is kind of cute.

Thanx for the summary.
I wanna ask one question…
Generally speaking, shoujo is a class for shows targeting mainly girls right? And, I heard that this one was an H game in Japan -Patrik from Random Curiosity was very furious calling it ‘Pedoporn’ ^^-…
How come this show is classed as shoujo in the previews..?
I dont understand…
This is one of those shows that is being adapted from an h-game to a mainstream show for young girls. However, many male otaku will still enjoy it because of the cute girls and transformations. Calling it “Pedoporn” is a joke, but it holds some truth xD.
Thanks for the summary! I’ve been trying to decide whether or not to watch this show…
@Arren: I don’t know if Nanatsuiro would be considered “shoujo” (but I haven’t seen it yet, so…). However, it is “mahou shoujo,” which simply means “magical girl.” A lot of mahou shoujo are “shoujo” as well (Full Moon wo Sagashite, for example) but not necessarily all (can’t think of an example for that x.x)
[...] After the first episode’s showing, people are quick to point out that the show seems to be all about cuteness and mahou shoujo, and nothing else. I beg to differ [...]
