Umisho – 03
A swimming competition, a date, and swimsuit maids…?
Summary:
Arriving at the swim competition, all of the boys google at the girls in their swimsuits. When the events finally start, Momoko skillfully wins her race. The swim team captain arrives late, but he satisfyingly finishes his race as well. Before her turn, Kaname takes Amuro inside to help her with her start. Bringing up what Makio said earlier about his skills, Amuro mentions to Kaname that it would be nice if he participated. However, he again responds that he likes to be their support. After several of the other girls’ races, Amuro’s turn finally comes up. Everyone notices her shockingly fast speed as she passes far in front of her competition, but they find that she becomes disqualified for breaking a rule. On the way home, Momoko scolds Kaname for not teaching her the rules, but Amuro only hopes to have more fun next time.
Amuro shows up at Kaname’s house, inviting him to the beach. Although he is hesitant, he gets dragged along anyways. Arriving at the beach, Kaname is stunned at the sight of Amuro in a swimsuit. Of course, he cannot follow her into the water. Suddenly, people begin running at the sight of a shark. This makes Kaname want to help Amuro, who hasn’t realized the commotion. He ends using a boat to get to her, but they find that the shark is only the swim team captain in a costume. He asks if Amuro and Kaname are on a date, which Kaname declines. However, Amuro believes that two people going to the beach alone is a date. After the captain leaves, Amuro climbs into the boat. However, after Kaname accidentally touches her boob, he falls into the water and panics. When Amuro grabs onto his hand, he is able to calm down, and she praises him for finally being able to get into the water.
Later during swim club practice, the captain despairs over his problem his workplace is having. Because of the new bar that has opened close by, they have been losing business. While trying to come up with ideas to help, Mirei comes up with a shocking one. Finding themselves dressed as swimsuit maids, the girls help out at the bar that night. With this, the bar gets an astonishing amount of customers. The next day, everyone finds that the captain seems to be enjoying a lot of money. When everyone returns to work that night, Kaname is sent to the register, where he is told to give things out to the customers. When Kaname looks to see what he is giving out, hes finds that it is a suggestive pamphlet with the girls’ pictures on it. After Momoko sees this, there is an explosion in the bar. The next day at practice, the captain is once again depressed.

Impression:
This episode wasn’t anywhere near as funny as the last two were, though there was just as much fanservice. There was a bit of development with Kaname and Amuro at the beach, since he could finally get into the water with her help. Though, the scene came off pretty anticlimactic. I really don’t know what to say about the swimsuit maids portion. It was just blatant fanservice. I still enjoyed this episode, but it didn’t really bring anything new to the table. Hopefully, we’ll get more entertainment in the next episode.
My raw was seriously messed up, so this post will probably be getting revised as soon as I find another one. I think I missed the entire first portion of the episode. Anon is playing games with us!
After watching the first part of this episode, I probably appreciated it more. There were some pretty funny parts, like only one boy liking Makio’s figure. They also started playing the opening single that I love when Amuro started swimming. If anyone wants to know the rule that Amuro broke, it’s this one: “Some part of the swimmer must break the surface of the water throughout the race. It shall be permissible for the swimmer to be completely submerged during the turn, at the finish and for a distance of not more than 15 meters after the start and each turn. By that point the head must have broken the surface” (Thanks google). Anime is now teaching me things like swim competition rules. What has the world come to!

The raw is completely messed up. The episode is out of order and the stuff from last weeks preview isnt even in the episode even though it was supposed to be the focus.
I think the beach stuff may be part of episode 4. Im not sure wtf happened.
I’m guessing it was a problem with the files put on the network for TV stations to broadcast. I think someone at the animation studio (or the network) put together the first part of ep1, the last part of ep4, the first part of ep3, then the preview from ep3 and called it ep3. Not sure. It was fun, anyway. I liked the growing confidence between the leads.
Heh, I’m glad it wasn’t just me. While I was watching this, I was thinking “isn’t this exactly like the first episode…? Wait…it is the first episode.”, then it changed half way through to two stand alone segments. Besdies the first half being completely gone, and the ED being in the middle of the episode, it still made sense though.
