Seto no Hanayome - 18

Time to teach everyone Totali’s rules of love comedies. 1: a love comedy must have a trip to the hot springs.

Summary:

Gouzaburou surprises the class by suddenly announcing a field trip. During the train ride, San asks to talk to Nagasumi in private. She wonders what she should do when everyone gets into the bath together, because she would revert back into a mermaid. Akeno shows up to remind them that the mermaid exam will still be taking place during the field trip, and they find that Maki has tagged along shortly afterwards. After arriving at their destination, the Seto family quickly starts enjoying themselves. Seeing that Akeno is standing alone, Nagasumi decides to keep her company. Akeno expresses that she has not been able to make many friends because of constantly transferring, but there were always a few trustworthy people that she liked. Maki takes the chance to ambush Akeno, and starts firing water at her with her shell gun. Nagasumi tries to block most of the shots, but a small amount of water still makes it to Akeno’s legs. Nagasumi is surprised when her legs do not revert, but Akeno falls onto him afterwards. Even though she can keep them from reverting, it is still very hard to move. Maki continues to fire at her, until Mawari and Iinchou show up to see what is wrong. Believing that this was Nagasumi’s plan, Akeno states that he has betrayed her trust when he tries to talk to her afterwards. Later while eating dinner, San apologizes to Akeno. She had already found out about Maki, but she tries to convince Akeno that Nagasumi had nothing to do with it. Akeno finally agrees, which makes San very happy.

Later after everyone has visited the bath, Mawari and Nagasumi pass by Akeno and San in their room. Overhearing their conversation causes Nagasumi and Mawari to have a huge misunderstanding. After running away with Nagasumi, Mawari prepares to enter the bath after Akeno and San. Knowing that their mermaid identities could be exposed, Nagasumi tries to keep her from going in. After failing the first time to break her determination, Nagasumi tells Mawari to only look at him. Of course, this causes another misunderstanding, as it feels like a confession. Mawari prepares to reply, but they are again interrupted by the noises made by Akeno and San. Mawari runs into the bath to see a very misleading scene, and Nagasumi is surprised that they are not in their mermaid forms. Nagasumi pulls Mawari out just before Akeno and San reach their limit, seeing that the two were only trying to see how long they could hold their human forms. Nagasumi tells Mawari to listen to her, but he only apologizes to her and bids her a good night. Akeno speaks with Nagasumi alone outside afterwards, suggesting that he should know that it is hard for humans and mermaids to coexist after the previous events. She tells him to separate from San, and that the condition that forced him to be with her could be undone. However, following San’s example, Nagasumi tells her that he isn’t able to give up so easily. Before she can walk off, Nagasumi apologizes to her for betraying her trust in the morning. Akeno simply confirms that it was a misunderstanding, before walking away while thinking of him. Meanwhile, Mawari is troubled about how she should present herself to Nagasumi the next day while everyone else is sleeping.

Preview: Luna returns, and everyone gets involved in a movie production.

Impression:

Oh wow. This week’s Seto no Hanayome did not disappoint me at all. I definitely liked it better than the last episode, and I was laughing out loud all over again. I guess I really have to have San’s kansai to be happy. I think I have a new liking for Mawari after this episode as well. “Does Mawari need to teach her bath rules to you!?” This episode once again proved that Seto no Hanayome continually builds up to a huge punch line at the end. I was chuckling and smiling in the beginning at things like the Luna doll, but by the end I was laughing out loud at every second. I was about to fall out of my chair watching Nagasumi hold his crotch while being pulled away by Mawari. Seto no Hanayome’s hot springs episode was different from the typical because, of course, San is a mermaid. Mawari and Nagasumi’s misunderstanding of Akeno and San’s situation was hilarious, and so was Mawari’s belief that Nagasumi was confessing to her. I half expected Nagasumi to fall over with a nose bleed, but surprisingly he wasn’t affected at all. That’s the reaction I’m looking for! This episode was pushed further into love comedy standards with both Akeno and Mawari developing strong feelings for Nagasumi. The condition that originally put Nagasumi and San together was also removed, but by this point it doesn’t matter anymore. Luna finally returns in the next episode, so I know I will love it. Love comedies banzai!!! …Oh, and Akeno was added to the ED. If this happened earlier then I probably wasn’t paying attention.

I did not find episode 17 very good, but this one was full of win and awesome. I guess when San is missing, the show is not as funny. Nice development with Mawari and Shiranui, too.

Skh > It’s San’s kansai! “Eh no?” MOE!

Ssk > She probably was. I’m one of those people who goes to do something else as soon as the ED starts playing, so I never payed that much attention to it. Heh.

Holy Hell, this episode was just such a win, after a few weeks of side-characters and ohh so boring gags, we finally see what we have been waiting ohh so long for:
“A San-Chan -X- Akeno White Flower Frame Yuri Shot In The Bath Tub!”- ja nai. This episodes Mawari totally brought her back into my heart, with her asking:”So what happened to the second part of this here just now?” It was perfect, Saru + Dono was perfect. The singing on the bullet-train was just like a strawberry on a sundae, i could go on forever, praising this episode and even saying it was the best i had ever seen from this show, if i hadnt just seen a Drunk Akeno.

    Great episode!
