Devil May Cry - 09
Hey, this looks like a movie I saw recently!
Summary:
Dante receives a request from a woman to save her husband Paul from gambling. Dante refuses at first, comparing the addiction to gambling to a sickness, but is convinced by Morrison when he suggests that it could be a demon’s work. There has been a rumor going around of a gambler called the king, and anyone that loses to him will die. Dante has also received an invitation from the king, including a watch. This places Dante on a cruise ship, gambling with some well known gamblers. The king’s work is displayed early, as one of the players dies after losing. Everyone takes a break shortly afterwards, and Lady finds that Paul’s wife has boarded the ship after hearing a rumor about it. However, she will not show herself to Paul because she believes that he will not stop either way. Everyone continues to play even after numerous deaths, showing that they are not concerned about anything but winning. Paul and Dante become the last two remaining players, but Dante manages to beat him. However, Dante turns to say that it isn’t over yet, as he offers a gamble to Lady. He points his gun at her, but Lady is faster at shooting him. Patty screams in confusion at the sight, as Paul’s wife appears. She reveals that she sent items to all the players, which caused them to act in the manner that they did. The woman transforms into a demon to kill everyone on the ship, but Dante rises soon after firing at her. He reveals that Lady shot through the watch that he received in the invitation. He realized its powers by pure coincidence, when Patty had tried it on in the Devil May Cry. The two begin exchanging attacks, and when Dante realizes that his guns won’t do the work, he finishes the demon off with his sword. It is later revealed to Patty that it was their plan all along for Lady to bring Dante back to his senses, and Dante loses to Patty in cards as usual.

So this week you guys get a late post and a half assed summary! Sorry, I’ve been busy with Uni preparations and the such. This episode was decent, but it had a lot of flaws. The animation dipped down again with a lot of scenes looking shabby, and there was even a scene where Patty was talking but her mouth wasn’t moving. Watching the episode felt very familiar to a lot of American films I’ve been seeing recently with the setting on a high class cruise ship and lots of gambling. I couldn’t help but be reminded of scenes from Casino Royal or Ocean’s 13. I don’t know if I could say that I was that pumped about seeing people play cards for the majority of the episode. Is it really that exciting? I was also getting a ton of Death Note vibes with people falling to their deaths every two seconds. They even had the items that changed the way people act. With Madhouse doing the animation, I don’t know if that is a coincidence or not. As cheezy as the story is for this episode, I could say that the directors are doing a good job. The show still has a surprisingly enjoyable atmosphere, and it is easy to empathize with the characters. Even though it may not be extremely popular while its airing, I have a feeling that this will be quite successful when it’s brought to the states. The next episode might be a step up story wise, because it looks like we will finally be seeing the big role that sneaky demon has been playing. There was also a mention of Dante’s father, so it looks like we’ll finally get to see some real demons in action!

Honestly, I kinda disapointed by this series. I was acturally guesting before it aired, that it was going to be more follow the games more. And have the characters from the games act more like they do in the games. But its okay the way it is, I was just exicted when I first heard and assumed it was going to follow a game. I also love when Dante smiles since he’s so serious. The next epi looks intresting.
Is that guy from the second pic of the preview vergil?o_O I mean blue eyes, silver hair, and something that looks like a coat.
ps:great site
Tokki > I feel the same. The anime has had its ups and downs, especially since we’ve been expecting the same kind of thing we’ve been getting from the games. If you get past that and just watch the episodes for what they are they’re decent though.
yarayarayara > If I’m not mistaken, that’s Sparta, Dante’s father. I’m only basing that on his looking similar to the one from DMC3 though. Virgil looks a lot younger, and his hair is more white like Dante’s.
Well, i guess by the story of the games, the story in the anime follows pretty alright. What I mean is, we all know Dante for the crazy and sarcastic type of person that he is in the games, but at the and of DMC3 when Vergil goes in the demon world he changes a bit i guess (he even cries). So at first I thought that a more lazy and serious type of Dante isn’t what i know, but thinking about it in the manner I described it does make sense. In the episodes he is still sarcastic but a bit too concealed in thoughts (that’s what the seriousness is) but when he gets in the mood he is still the crazy guy from the games - he laughs danger in the face.
Kinda long text I’ve written, but never the less i too am curious about what will be the main plot in the anime… Will Vergil show up? Will Sparta? Who’s the guy from the first preview picture and will Dante cry again (with blood tears?).
I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE
Haha, yup. The time frame of the anime is between the first and second games. Most people already know this already but it goes something like this: DMC3, DMC1, DMC2. I always thought his anime personality was pretty fitting. I have my doubts that Vergil will show up in the anime, and I think Sparta’s showing up might be a flashback or something. The other guy from the preview just looks like an important demon antagonist to me. Who knows what will happen ;P.
well - maybe vergil beat the crap out of all the demons in the demon world and now comes back with gray hair (you know out of stress and labor lol) and looking older
just kidding
anyways can’t anyone upload miraculously the rest of the anime by tonight
man they did it with Harry Potter 7 Book why cant they with DMC
Well the HP books are preshipped so that they can be in the stores at the release date and there are previews to reviewers and the such (I think), but the only people who have access to TV series or anime are the stations that the video is sent to.
Haha I totally just answered your joking comment seriously. ;P
well at least we know that new guy from the DMC 4 game wont make an appearance. dont know about you but i dont personally think that it will be much fun without dante as a main character in the game.
but they’ve been advertising the game with Dante as a playable right? He might not be the main character, but it will probably be like DMC2 and 3 with two playables or something. Personally I don’t think the new character will be that bad…obviously not as cool as Dante though. I’m sure they’ll give us some kind of twist to make it interesting.
