Seto no Hanayome - 19

Are you drunk?

Summary:

Akeno meets with her superior and gives her report of Nagasumi and San. Seeing that she is having trouble revealing that humans and mermaids cannot live together, he offers her a set of drinks to put to use. While the students are observing and old area on their trip, Akeno gathers Kai and the fish men to help her with the plan. Upon mentioning that they haven’t seen Luna in awhile, everyone discovers that she is actually there. Luna’s manager explains to everyone that they are there for a movie production, and suggests that everyone tag along. When Luna reaches the set, she finds that it has been destroyed by a few not so hidden identities. This puts the production in a lot of trouble, but Luna’s father suddenly appears to refund the project and suggest that all of the students participate in saving it. Akeno’s plan goes into action when Kai and the fish men offer the drinks to everyone before they get changed. Akeno explains that the drink is something that would make the drinker’s mind follow its inner desires in a very strong way. The fish men unthinkingly give Akeno the drink as well, right after drinking it themselves. After explaining the movie to him, Kai asks Nagasumi if he properly drank $he juic% he gave him. Nagasumi lies that he did, even though he avoided it knowing that the mermaid juice would be trouble. Akeno suddenly bursts into the room to chase Nagasumi. He manages to run away but he then runs into Luna who wants to punish him. Mawari and Iinchou have also been affected in similarly odd ways. Nagasumi becomes surrounded by everyone, but San suddenly appears to protect him. San and Akeno have a final battle over Nagasumi, but it ends with Akeno’s superior knocking her into her senses. Akeno later reports to him that San’s inner desire was to protect Nagasumi, but she is still told to look over them. Meanwhile, San takes Nagasumi out to look at a beautiful full moon.

Impression:

How surprising, another laugh out loud episode. What I found the most funny about this episode was how shallow it was. The plot was setup like it wasn’t even thought out, yet the result came out purposely hilarious. The students are dragged into a film production at complete random, simply for being invited. The drink concept was over the top as well, especially when even Akeno got dragged into it. The punch lines aren’t direct in this show, but they come out so funny. Akeno’s drunk voice was so different from her regular one in a cute way, but I can’t say I really liked it that much. Everyone else’s transformations came out pretty much how I imagined they would. I love how Luna acted as if she wanted to get closer to Nagasumi, but it was just to give him a long absent machine gun kicking. We also got another short lived epic battle scene, with San ready to go all out to protect Nagasumi. We got some more development between Nagasumi and San towards the end of the episode too, which was pretty nice. I love the directing of this show. It’s just so chaotic, yet it all fits together in the end and you can’t help but like it. Well, if we didn’t like it, we probably wouldn’t still be watching would we? The next episode looks pretty awesome in the Seto way, and we’re back to school.

Yeah, what a flimsy premise for an episode. Typical anime: A drink that shows how people are feeling inside. Also, might I add, it’s typical “win.” Hell, if I was against wacky unrealistic plots and characters, I wouldn’t be watching a show about a yakuza mermaid family. Thankfully, the subs come out very quickly for this show, so I don’t have to try to tackle the raws like I do with a few other shows, like Umisho, Nagasarete, and unfortunately, Sayonara Zetsubou, which is a little difficult to follow for someone relatively new to the language study. Which reminds me, classes start next week. ugh.

    Really fantastic episode.
Is it just me or did Akenos superior remind you of the deep-sea fish that they always eat in Umisho?
Anyway, this episode was pure win, Akenos “happy” face was just too cute, they were all drunk, and the episode didint just get sucked into the randomness that akeno caused with the potion, we also had a fun first half with Mawari getting embarrassed about bumping into Nagasumi. Mawari is still my favorite girl of the group.

I totally saw the Masa-san short coming, but the guest he had took me by surprise, still made me laugh out aloud though.

    Great episode.

Sniper > lol he looks like he’s from the matrix or something doesn’t he?

Rentington > You too? Classes are coming up just around the corner…and I’ve gotta get moving to my dorm soon. :S

Dularc > Mawari fans actually exist??? Masa and Nagasumi’s dad made me lol….”give me back my wife!” xD

San really loves Nagasumi and she proves it big time defending Nagasumi against drunk Akeno.
Woah in the screenshot upper right part Luna expression looks like Akira Kogami from Lucky Star (although since episode 7, I knew she is like Akira Kogami from LS) but this episode shows the real similarity though.

San has been proving her love power since episode 1!

Yea, Luna has always been similar to her LS counterpart….same hair color and same bipolar personality.

but wouldnt u find it weird how San always defends and is the one expressing her feelings towards Nagasumi everytime? while Nagasumi just says simple things like “im her husband” :O
it’s probably not much of an observation but just something i noticed
    loved this episode too :P
