Devil May Cry – 10
What loving brothers…
Summary:
Dante encounters a white demon while walking down the street. He gets corned by this swords, but Lady manages to blast the demon away. Later while Dante has his usual strawberry sundae, he and Patty notice that someone is giving the manager trouble. Cindy explains that he does not think the master’s strawberry sundae is very good. The manager starts to throw him out, when Dante agrees that the strawberry sundae is not its usual. This causes both of the customers to be thrown out, and the store closes for the day. Later, Trish confronts a demon about the white one from earlier. He admits to her that he is after Sparda’s son, Dante, before she kills him off. Dante also hears this, before he leaves Trish’s presence. That night, the man Dante met in the restaurant, Moden, reflects upon Sparda’s legend. The next day, Patty meets Moden and tells him about Dante. Upon being asking about what he is doing, Moden replies that he is observing people. Patty mentions that he must have a lot of free time, and he expresses his wish that the days could always be so peaceful.
Before running off, Patty tells Moden that she will make a strawberry sundae for him the next time he is at the Devil May Cry. Not to far away, the scared demon talks with the white demon, Valri, about his younger brother. Moden had thrown away his swords, even though Valri wishes to confront Sparda’s son. Upon being hinted of his brother’s actions, Moden heads to the Devil May Cry. He confronts his brother when he reaches the Devil May Cry, which only results in Valri leaving to find Dante. Dante enters the Devil May Cry later, guessing what is happening, but also suggests that Moden may want his life as well. The conflict doesn’t go any further, and Dante goes to seek out Valri. The two fight against each other, and Dante comes out victorious even when his opponent turns into a demon. Becoming angered by this, Moden also transforms and charges towards Dante. Patty mentions that she will be making a strawberry sundae for Moden to Dante at the Devil May Cry later. Dante tells her that he probably will not come, because of a promise he made. Elsewhere, the scarred demon laughs at the actions of the two brothers.

Impression:
I may have the brothers’ names wrong, but I’ll probably change them when I find the official ones. Despite being kind of wrong about my guess from last episode, I really liked this one. The only thing that bothered me was that some of the dialog driven scenes just looked like moving storyboards. It reminded me a lot of some of the middle Death Note episodes, where Madhouse’s budget seemed to go down. The fight scene was really cool though, even if it was kind of short. I loved what happened with the two swords after the first brother went down! The voice acting had me laughing for a bit, because I couldn’t help but think of Giroro when the older brother talked. After Keroro Gunsou, that’s always what I’ll remember Nakata Jouji for. The voice actor for the younger brother reminds me of another big male seiyu, but I don’t know which one. When I can recognize a voice but can’t attach it to the actor it really bothers me, so one of you have to tell me which one it is! Another funny thing in this episode was how the store sign was in english. I might be beating a dead horse by saying this yet again, but it really makes it obvious that they will be marketing this to an American audience quick. The next episode looks pretty awesome, with the little guy finally getting some action. It’s also called “Showtime”, a common phrase from the games.

The story of this episode is a little confusing. T_T Could know write it with a bit more explanation?
Thumbs up to you for putting a review up before we even got to watch it! XD Thank you!
Yea, sorry. I knew things would start getting confusing when I stopped doing detailed summaries. I will try to explain a little more, but I do not intend on being a substitute for subs.
Basically, the two brothers wanted to go after Sparta for his power. The younger brother dropped his sword after Sparta disappeared, but the older brother wanted to go after his bloodline – Dante. After Dante took out Valri, Moden despaired and expressed his brother’s reasons for fighting. Even though he didn’t want to fight, he went up against Dante….and we know the result of that. Apparently this is all a part of the little scarred demon’s plans in the end.
There’s really a lot of deep meaning behind the episode, as people really live and fight for different reasons and things. We saw that Moden really wanted peace, and Patty saw that he was a good person. However, even if he didn’t agree with him, he cared for his brother and died for him. Conflicts arise from situations that can’t be helped.
I hope this helps a little bit. I’m always ready to answer questions!
The store notice in English is so perfect; probably the 1st time I’ve seen in an anime…
Btw, the guy voicing the younger bro is Miki Shinichirou (Urahara Kisuke from Bleach). The moment I heard his voice, I went “Miki-kun!” (though my fave seiyuu is the one voicing Dante, just to let you know XP)
jilyn101, thanks! Not knowing the seiyuu was totally killing me. I’m glad you caught it so quickly x)
This episdoe is interesting enough. I think it needed to be a two parter though.
Also, have to say this, it’s Sparda, not Sparta.
Whoops, LOL I knew that x). Thanks for pointing that out…it was actually like 2:00 in the morning when I wrote this up.
Sparta? Reminds me of the prairie dog remix from youtube.
Cant wait until episode 10 gets released by AonE & Conclave
Thanks Totali
Maybe I was watching too much 300? ;P
I’m glad DMC fans are getting some good groups to sub this for them.
You’re welcome as always!
