Seto no Hanayome - 21

Move aside, Nanoha. Iinchou is a mahou shoujo!

Summary:

Nagasumi becomes excited after receiving a love letter, because it is the first one he has ever received. He tries to hide this from San and the others, but Maki and Luna make it so that it is revealed to the entire class. Nagasumi goes outside to meet with the girl later, while San and the others watch. San doesn’t really want to watch, but someone appears before she can go home. This happens to be Luna’s father in a sailor uniform. Because of the commotion he and Gouzaburou start causing, Iinchou never gets the chance to reveal that it was her who gave Nagasumi the love letter. Nagasumi states his troubles to Ren later, so she suggests a mermaid drink to him. Nagasumi drinks the potion, even after remembering all of the bad things that the mermaid drinks have done in the past. The potion happens to be one that makes the girls fall for him, and the men despise him. Even after escaping Ren, the entire class starts causing havoc for Nagasumi. The confusion continues when he reaches home, as his mother sees a vision of Masa while looking at him. The girls also follow him to the bathroom. The potion wears off the next day, but Nagasumi opens his locker to find another love letter. Iinchou arrives this time in her pretty form, but she quickly confesses to the wrong person. San apologizes to her, making Iinchou run off in embarrassment. Seeing that she still has a chance, Iinchou returns to try again, but her transformation is flawed. With this, Iinchou leaves depressed after another failure to convey her feelings.

Preview: More school antics, with Luna having some type of problem

Impression:

I don’t know if I can say this, but this episode might have been even better than the last one. The episode had already started with some funny engrish lines from Nagasumi and Luna’s father, and the random return of the sailor uniform. Iinchou’s love letter story also showed that her previous episode was just something necessary for this one, making me feel more redeeming towards it. The love potion reminded me of one of the very early Negima! stories, but it was just a bit different. Seeing everyone’s view of Nagasumi was absolutely hilarious, especially his mother’s. As usual, the episode ended with a completely over the top climax, as Iinchou’s transformation scene made no sense at all. The after episode extra was kind of funny too, with Mawari in full cop mode. Next week’s episode looks just as fun, so hopefully Seto no Hanayome can stay strong until the soon to come end.

It will be a tragic day for anime comedy when this series ends :(

  4. Kresnik August 28th, 2007 3:29 am

YES AMAZONES! Poor Inchou, that was hilarious. Why can’t Seto be one of those 50 episode types :(

Be careful for what you wish for…

Longer series tend to have smaller budgets for animation quality, and it is to SnH’s credit that they have managed to maintain an amazing level of consistency and quality despite being a 2-cour series.

    Quite frankly, they put a lot of other 2-cour anime series to shame; especially since SnH is not some “Blockbuster Series” from *insert famous studio* It is from Gonzo for crying out loud! (Pumpkin Scissors’ turbulent animation consistency still haunts me… not to mention the DBZ-qued drawing out of tension, turning what should have been taut anticipation into limp spaghetti) This series has single-handedly restored a lot of faith for me in that infamous studio. ^^;

*How long ago was Last Exile again?*

Maybe it is because of the director, the same guy who directed Magikano. A series where the wacky hijinks reigned supreme, but the drama fell flatter than a steamrolled bun. With SnH however, he apparently learnt from his past experiences and succeeded in interweaving the dramatic aspects without killing the comedic aspects.

To put it bluntly, I am glad that they decided NOT to “exploit” the source material and kept faithful to the “spirit” of the source material. The anime may have altered events from the manga and added anime-original material, but I am laughing equally hard at both versions, and that is always a good thing. It means to me that they have succeeded in transferring what was so good about the manga in the first place. :)

Unlike a certain other 4-cour love-comedy anime series currently airing… where I get the sinking feeling that they are just taking advantage of the fanbase.

    Cheers.

Julio, Sniper, suguru > Yes, it will be very sad when this ends….but all good things must come to an end!!!

    Kresnik > You’re kidding right? Wait….no. Just….no!

Lazy McChan > Because it could turn out to be like Hayate no Gotoku….and that show fails as a love comedy imo

Skane > Well said. I actually thought Gonzo’s adaption of NHK was pretty good, though it had its ups and downs. I’m typically not a big fan of their work…but then again, I’m not a big fan of the type of shows they do anyways.

Akito > I’ve said it many times, but I seriously doubt there will be a 2nd season of this anime. :S

This episode was hilarious! 17 to 19 weren’t as funny as usual Seto no Hanayome episodes go, but 20 and especially 21 made up for that. I was laughing my ass off the entire time, though I did find the Last Amazonness bit to be a little wtf-ish.

WOW! What an episode! I love the first half especially when the girls starts to fall for Nagasumi like CRAZY! Gotta love Luna, San, Mawari, Akeno, and Inchou!!! Man this is the first harem comedy anime that i have watched that all the female leads are AWESOME!!!! I doubt anyone can name a show where ALL OF THE FEMALE LEADS are Good!

Magikano was the second show that i find good, although one female lead wasnt that funny, but still a very good series the only missing part was that the Male lead wasnt funny, but im glad the producer made Nagasumi hilarious! No in fact, almost all the dam characters are hilarious in their own way, this series rocks!

I wouldnt mind it to be longer, because of all its crazy materials, it still has lots of room to go into, i mean for crying out loud they are still middle school students. I want to see how they look like and how crazy they’ll even more become in high school or something lol.

    Holy crying cow of Seinfeld.

It just keeps getting better and better with every episode, the hilarity keeps piling up, and we get shown so many different sides to all these amazing characters that would just seem boring and bland otherwise.

Note: I so didint see Akenos Sukuru Mizugi coming, i thought Mawari would be the one wearing it.

    I love this show!

Hemisphere > Definitely. These 2 episodes have come at the top for being over the top and unexpected. Iinchou’s wtf moment just added to that greatness!

Ero-sumi > I’ve actually seen quite a few love comedies where I could say I liked everyone but I also watch a lot of love comedies…I would agree that all of SnH’s characters are likable, but I obviously lean more towards the San/Luna fandom ;P

Dularc > Haha, that scene was great! xD
