Totali interviewed by Sea Slugs! Hilarity ensues?

One of my favorite anime blogs, Sea Slugs!, does monthly interviews on interesting characters of the anime blogging community. When Kabitzin asked me to participate, I was overjoyed. Check the interview out here, and maybe you’ll learn a bit more about your favorite (or maybe not so favorite) blog author!
PS: The interview actually came out like last night, but I couldn’t really find a chance to plug it until now. University takes a lot of time!

Well, certainly didn’t expect the random mention I got. I’m very surprised myself that the call for subs worked, maybe I should try it with StrikerS…
>> Those conflicting thoughts of wanting to reply to everyone, but being hesitant to reply to the random guy who comes to my site to ask where to download animeā¦.then ending up trolling on my own blog because of it.
Man I really hate dealing with those comments. I feel bad that I can’t give them a direct link because of the unwritten rule that anime blogs aren’t content spreaders so I usually just point them to TT and maybe give them a keyword. If they don’t know how to torrent though, there’s no hope.
I’m a week in and I already hate college again. I’m impressed you are keeping this blog going. Stay with it, dudesky.
Great interview. THanks for mentioning me :BBBB *hugs all around* XDXD
And I hate people who ask for fansubs too =_= Even though above the comment box its liek DONT ASK ME WHERE TO GET FANSUBS I DONT EVEN WATCH FANSUBS like nobody reads it. I just end up deleting comments like that which get into my moderation que.
Nice Interview man
I thought the interview came out fantastic, and the answers were so thoughtful! It was also great to finally have a proponent of episodic summaries mwahahaha =D.
LOL! I also just delete them. They will never come back to check for their comment anyway if they are too lazy to look in the sidebar.
Totali, make sure you thank Kabitzin for the welcome back you finally have on IRC now.
I now feel good after putting a spoiler above the comments about asking for fansubs. when they do, I feel less guilty to completely ignore them rather than being polite over it, and saying that we do not entertain such requests over comments.
That said, I really enjoy this idea of the interview, and enjoyed every single one of them. It’s a pity I am not really a good interviewer to go around hunting people down. I probably degenerate it to a talk about why they like/do not like lolis and if they like the color green on the hair of their anime gals.
Sigh.
Impz, I’m glad you have liked the interviews! Hunting people down is slightly nervewracking, and I have even had my true love confession rejected before! It also takes a surprising amount of time to read through the interviewee’s blog to try to come up with meaningful questions, and a sort of theme to hold the whole thing together.
However, the payoff is pretty big when you get such well-thought-out answers, and then get to spend hours on image databases looking for pictures to go with the answers =D.
As for people who leave “were can i dl ths show” comments, I don’t feel guilty at all about just deleting their comment. On the rare occasion where someone leaves a real comment and appends a request for a torrent link, I will delete the portion of the comment asking about the torrent, and email that person an answer as a compromise.
Shirukii > I still remember when I started seeing the speed subs appear after your blog post. I was like OMG POWER TO THE BLOGGERS!!!
Rentington > Yea, I’m just nowhere close to being ready to give up! Dudesky…that’s a new one. I am so going to start using that.
Hinano > np, you really run my favorite blog! To think that the first post I read was about Airantou’s mushroom cocks…. x)
Sniper > I’m glad you liked it. You should thank Kabitzin.
Kabitzin > I just said what came to mind xD. I can’t thank you enough for letting me participate in something so fun….so thank you again!!
aurabolt > I never thought I would have a WB in irc…I don’t usually make enough time to actually say anything in there! xS
Impz > I REALLY need to implement that into my blog….I’m pretty sure I could do it in like 2 seconds if I wanted too…I just put the standard formatting tags like ‘paragraph’ and stuff under Leave Reply in the comments php right?
HA! As if it could be so easy:
http://www.seaslugteam.com/archives/2006/02/24/spoiler-tags/
You will need to edit your kses.php file with every core update, otherwise you will be the only one able to use the spoiler tags. The spoiler tag needs to be added to the list of acceptable tags that non-logged-in users can access. There was a plugin a little while back that would expand upon the kses.php file, but unfortunately it did not work for me.
However, it still doesn’t take that long to implement, and does add a lot of functionality to a blog. I don’t think you have to hack your actual comment.php file, unless you want to put a message letting readers know they can use the spoiler tags (but no one reads those messages anyway).
Oh, sorry to double post, but if you use that spoiler plugin, you can avoid having to hack your kses.php file if you instruct your readers to use brackets instead of the less-than greater-than signs. In other words the spoiler tag can look like forum code instead of html.
However, I have found that everyone automatically assumes they can use html spoiler tags, and if you don’t hack the kses.php file, Wordpress will eat everything inside their tags. This is to clarify that you don’t have to hack the kses.php file (but you should).
I actually read your post on that when I installed my spoiler tags…are you absolutely sure I have to do that?

or will it be different for users other than the admin? :S
Kabitzin is right, the same thing happened to me and many other bloggers when we tried implementing spoiler tags. They work perfectly fine for the admins, but due to the restricted html tags in comments, they don’t work for everyone.
If you don’t see a spoiler dropdown after this, you’ll have to edit your kses.
test test test
Test failed! I guess I’ll be holding off on that for a little bit xS
Every tag will work for an admin because the kses.php does not filter admin posts/comments. There are so many plugins that will work for admins but not for users, which makes it annoying to test.
I wish there was an option screen in wordpress where you could edit the allowed/disallowed tags for users.
Congratulations! Good luck with your University life, by the way. Don’t let anime blogging take too much time out of your schedule, IMO, but it’s entirely up to your style. Just dn’t burn yourself out, I guess, and you’ll be great.
I’ve said this a lot already, but I do plan on lightening my blogging load to match up with my University schedule. I’ll probably go from 9 series to 5 or something once the new season starts. I’ll also try to make it so that I am no longer blogging so inconsistently because of school. Thanks for the encouragement Hemi!
