Touka Gettan - 22

More Momoka is fine by me……….wait, what are you doing!?

Summary:

As Momoka is walking to school, Touka and Makoto notice that some of her hair is cut. They find this strange, but don’t think much about it. After they reach school, Momoka finds that her shoes are missing from her locker. Kikyou appears to give them to her, which shocks a lot of the students around her. As she walks through the school, it seems like the rest of the students are avoiding her. Momoka tries to get Touka’s attention on the top of the roof, but Asuna drags him off to have cake with the butterfly sisters. When Momoka returns to her shoe locker, she finds that her shoes have been filled with tacks. Meanwhile, Touka has been dragged into a game by the butterfly triplets and Asuna. Momoka wonders why so many bad things are happening to her, like finding a used condom in her lunch box. She does not have the energy to enjoy Nene’s food when she returns home, and she cannot speak to Makoto the next day. Momoka passes by a humiliating picture of herself, and she embarrassingly sheds it in front of all the boys looking at it.

Momoka becomes excited after receiving a gift from a girl, but opens it to find that it is full of bugs. Momoka continues to be treated horribly throughout the day, as people bump into her and she has balls thrown at her in the gym. In other places, Touka finally manages to win the game he is playing. His reward is Asuna, but this isn’t what he asked for. After fleeing from the sight of dead bloody chickens fall from her gym locker and having an insulting letter sent to her, Momoka reaches her limit outside. Her powers as Sei come to the surface, as many of the school’s windows shatter in front of her tormentors. Touka senses Momoka’s call to him, which makes him run from Asuna and go to her. Momoka starts crying at the sight of Touka, even though she is happy. Momoka mentions that her heart resembles that of a newborn child’s, and Touka wipes her tears which come from her heart’s feelings. The next day, Momoka describes her hunger in a silly way as usual to Touka as they head to school. While this is happening, the butterfly triplets watch from a small screen.

Impression:

This episode made me very angry, but that’s actually a good thing. What that means is that Touka Gettan has succeeded in making us feel very attached to the characters, something that a lot of anime are failing to do these days. The horrible ways Momoka was being treated reminded me a lot of Jigoku Shoujo, and it just had me screaming for revenge. Some of the things like the used condom being placed in her lunch box were just disgusting, and it really brought out a lot of hating emotions in me. Of course, it made me extremely happy when Touka came to the rescue. Love power! I finally get to talk about the reverse chronology again, as this episode really strengthened the events of episode 21. It really helps to show why Momoka became so attached to Touka in particular. The episode also went in a full circle, with the triplets watching the screen in the beginning and end of the episode. On a lighter note, Momoka going into her cartoonish form was really cute, and Touka imitating her “heehee” was hilarious. The next episode is titled “yome” or “bride”, so I suspect that it will have to do with Momoka’ arranged marriage with Haruhiko. If I’m not mistaken about that, we’ll probably get to learn exactly how that fell apart.

I’m very far behind on this show (episode 7), and as the show will soon end, I plan to marathon it when it will be complete. So I ask all of you who watch it: should I watch it in the airing order, or in the chronological order, as I will have the choice?

Interesting impression. I look forward to this episode now.

    Skh:

Depends (as always :) ) For a more mysterious effect I think airing order is best. This way you will have no idea….about anything.

Everything will probably revealed in the last/first few episodes (airing orders 24, 25, and 26).

But remember Touka Gettan is a show with almost no plot. So it may not matter.

I’m going to rewatch episode 1 after I watch 26 to try
    and get a conclusive effect/

Yeah I know what you mean Skh. I have to marathon mine too.:)

Yea, this is one of those shows that seems like everyone will be marathoning rather than watching on a regular basis….personally I think that kind of takes a lot of the fun out of it.

Skh > I would recommend watching it in the order that it airs, because watching it in chronological order probably won’t have the same effect.

Avisch > I thought about watching it in chronological order in the beginning, but I don’t know if I really have the time for that anymore. I’ve already spent a lot of time blogging it, so maybe I can reference my own posts to see how things would have been different if I did. ;P

Skh, I’m with Totali. Watching it in its airing order would actually make more sense than watching it chronologically, because certain plot details and connections are more apparent when you watch it with the airing order, than with the chronological order.

For example, Momoka turning into Sei. We already know by now that Momoka is Sei, as early as episodes 3 onwards, but it you watch it chronologically, the whole thing might just strike you as odd/out of place.

Thanks to all of you for your advice. In the end, I will watch it in the airing order, as you suggest.

[…] reminded me of NHK ni Youkosou! and the bullying reminded me of one of my favorite episodes of Touka Gettan. I’d like to throw away the anime comparisons for a second though, and just appreciate this […]
