Touka Gettan - 24

Puripuripuripuri~

Summary:

Touka and Momoka both prepare for their first day at Touka high school. Haruhiko imagines himself going to school with Momoka, but Makoto accompanies her before he can say anything to her. On the way to school, Momoka asks Makoto what they will do at school. Makoto is surprised that she doesn’t know, but she promises to help her. Kiyotsugu prepares to make his speech at the opening ceremony, but his eye reacts to Touka and Makoto’s inner powers. He is sent to the nurse’s office, where Misuzu beings to talk about his father. Asuna approaches Touka outside, and follows him as he finds a place to look into the distance. When she catches his attention, she gets his name and asks if he wants to touch her. Touka grabs onto one of her boobs, before walking off. Asuna finds him to be a very interesting person.

Shouko imagines herself with Makoto as she drives her car, and is shocked when she sees her with Momoka. Further along the road, she is stopped by the butterfly triplets and one of their regular pranks. Both of their organizations gather, and a competition is proposed. Meanwhile, Yumiko expresses that she wants to go back to the high school days, because there was no work. Nene reminds her that there were things like tests, but she would still rather go back. Momoka and Makoto meet up with a teacher, who wonders how Momoka is doing. Niko knocks this teacher over, and quickly runs away afterwards. During the commotion, Momoka catches Niko’s piece of bread in her mouth. Shouko loses the game proposed by the triplets, which puts her in distress.

Many girls look upon Touka with interests at the school, and they become very angered when Momoka starts to drag him home. Haruhiko fantasizes about Momoka again at the house, and he approaches her room. Nene reminds him that it isn’t good to go into a girl’s room before he can enter, which makes him awkwardly leave. Momoka recalls a mystifying scene she saw of Touka outside of her window. Finding him to be very interesting, she wonders if she could see him like that again. Walking outside, Momoka witnesses Touka gazing into the sky, while the butterfly triplets praise him above. Finding everything about this scene beautiful, Momoka states that the world is wonderful.

Impression:

There were so many scenes that stood out in this episode. It really reminded me of what drew me into Touka Gettan in the first place. Although this show has never really had top notch animation, the animators really did well to make parts jump out this time around. The final scenes in particular gave off a mystical feel that really had me hooked. I absolutely loved Momoka’s dialog, and Touka’s “superman cape” was so epic. I’m actually studying a lot of composition at the moment, so that might have had something to do with my appreciation. There’s one more thing I want to say about the production side of this episode. Hearing Mamiko Noto playing her boyish role gave me some mixed feelings. For one, I loved hearing her impossible to miss voice. However, it also gave me some Girls Bravo nightmarish memories.

The humor of this episode also had me interested throughout. Haruhiko’s imagination and his interaction with Nene were very funny, and the return of Shouko’s competition with the butterfly triplets was actually a welcome addition to this episode. I laughed so hard at the triplets’ jokes, like “if you like shoujo manga situations so much, why don’t you go around saying ‘I’m late, I’m late!”. For the record, I’m going to have to say that the triplets’ bunny outfits were way better than Shouko’s gym outfit. I’ve never really understood the bloomers moe point. Things like Touka grabbing Asuna’s boob and Yumiko’s freaking out were also great. I mean, Yumiko was grabbing onto a freaking tree! Haha. I also loved how the random side character girls actually sounded like random side character girls, if you know what I mean.

As silly as this episode was, I would definitely not call it filler. This episode really set the mood of the story, which was not as familiar to us in the beginning. Watching this episode made me feel like watching the show in chronological order might actually be more powerful, but it’s just a bit early to say for sure. Momoka’s gobbling of the bread was exactly like her hot dog consumption in the first episode, and small things like that actually make a big impact if you notice them. The next episode title is “X”, and the preview for it was pretty funny: “Exxxxsssuuuu~”. I’m not sure exactly what to expect, but with only two episodes left, I am guessing that it will have to do with Touka’s creation. They had him nude in the preview, and topless at that. Does this prove that he is a boy? …Probably not. I suspect that we will finally learn about Niko in this episode as well. I’m going to say that she is a test subject or something. I dunno, I’m just throwing that out there.

Woah. Bunny girl triplets? I was going to wait for the last episode to come out then watch this and then the last episode but there are two left? First I was under the impression that there were 26 episodes and now 25 and now 26 again! School has friend the anime part of my brain! DX

Yes, indeed. It’s a sign we’re coming to the end (I mean the beginning), and a reminder that the end is a new beginning. Thinking of the final scene of ep1 made me feel great.

I don’t really know what constitutes “good animation”: artistic drawing? detailed drawing? smooth motion? consistency? I think this show has been good in everything except detail — although maybe not totally consistent. In any case, the sparkles and butterflies around Touka at one point were really effective, I thought.

I hope the next episode clears things up.

Fang-tan > School will do that to you! xD ….but yea, TG has always been 26 eps…and a lot of us got excited about it when it was announced awhile back.

hashihime > My words probably came across wrong as usual, or maybe I was just too sleepy last night when writing this. xS …I actually love Touka Gettan’s animation, and have no problem with it. By saying that it wasn’t “top notch”, I was just pointing out the little inconsistencies and cheap animation tricks they used in the past. On the other hand, this show has constantly given us amazing scenes like the one in this episode that really help to give off that “Touka Gettan” feel. ;P

Sniper > For some reason, I think that even after the last two episodes air, there will still be some open questions that they will make us figure out on our own. One of the appeals (or turn offs for some people) was that this show always kept us guessing at things and details.
