Touka Gettan - 26 (Final)
There is no time. My final impression is included.
Summary:
A doll is placed on top of the stone sword by a woman, which results in an array of light as she walks away. Kikyou senses this, as the butterfly triplets begin to take form elsewhere. Now finding themselves with life, they name themselves. They are Hibari, Tsubame, and Suzume. Elsewhere, Touka finds himself alive in the spot where the stone sword and doll was left. Explaining the need for the stone sword, Nene invites him home. Yumiko has been writing her story about the young girl Touka, and the appearance of Momoka. Haruhiko is called on by his father, and he expresses something that Haruhiko would be happy about. However, he cannot tell him at the moment. Arriving home, Haruhiko overhears the maids talking about his fiance, Mo Momoka. Opening the doors while looking for Yumiko, Haruhiko mistakes Touka for Momoka. Touka turns around quickly to stare at him, and he throws Haruhiko out of the house when he tries to touch him. Haruhiko finds out that Touka is Yumiko’s child, with a bit of shock. When Haruhiko asks about Momoka, Yumiko only guesses that he looked at her writing. In a blue pool, Sei inhabits Momoka as she is born.
Makoto introduces herself as a transfer student to Asuna while riding on the train. As they prepare to eat, a great wind sweeps through the train. When they regain their composure, they find Momoka eating all of their food. Shouko greets Makoto at the stop, but she finds Momoka’s introduction a bit strange. Makoto tells Shouko that she appeared when the firefly lights passed, which makes Momoka wish to see them. Momoka is not registered as a home stay student when she tries to sign up with Makoto, but her name appears the second time it is checked. When trying to contact her mother, Makoto finds that her phone is not working. Momoka wonders if it is ok for her to stay at the house when she meets Yumiko, but Yumiko only hugs her in reply as if expecting her. While sitting in her room that night, Momoka prepares to call her mother. However, she realizes that she does not know who that is as she prepares to dial. Makoto witnesses Momoka’s appearance while she is in the bathroom, and she instantly falls in love. At this point, she wishes to call her sempai. Momoka wonders about her existence in her room, as Touka appears in front of her window. Walking outside, she wonders if they have met before. Touka does not think this is possible. After introducing themselves to each other, Momoka expresses that she feels as if there is not enough time for her.
Impression:
Well, my prediction is was proven wrong once again. I suppose there will not be a “past” episode at all, and the flashbacks will be left open for us to interpret. Like the previous episode, this episode helped to fill in the many gaps of the series. It was the first time that Momoka and Touka set foot into the world of Kamitsumihara, and gave a bit of the background on some other characters. For example, Shouko confirms that Asuna is the butterfly triplet’s “doll”. I think by this point, we can easily say that Yumiko has full control of the town. Touka’s appearance is almost exactly like that of the smaller girl, Touka. Momoka’s “birth” was also brought by her writing.
Once again, I was absolutely entranced by the scenes in this episode. Momoka was beautiful, as was Touka’s appearance. I found it really funny that even Haruhiko was attracted to him, even though it was probably because of his reminiscent feelings for the young girl Touka. I also love how all the characters were actually naked in this episode after being “born”. In all the other anime they appear with clothes on, and I’m always like, “how is that possible?”. There is so much more to talk about, but I’ll leave it for the final impression.
Which is right here! Touka Gettan has definitely been a trip. While being ignored by many, and even offending a few, it was not a show that many were given a chance to enjoy during its airing. Despite this, it was one of my favorite series of the season. In fact, I would easily call it a series that I would never forget, and probably one of my top favorite anime of all time. Based off of Carnelian’s beautiful artwork, the anime truly mimicked this. So many episodes could easily be considered works of art, not to mention all of the revolutionary concepts that were brought to the table by the production team. To truly appreciate this series, people need to get past the “controversial” subjects, and appreciate it for what it is. Being based off a more serious h-game, this is obviously a mature anime.
This isn’t to say that the show did not have any flaws. With a bit of a lack of production value, some episodes did not keep up in terms of animation. I suspect that this will be fixed in the dvd versions, however, along with some other adjustments. The series also suffered from a long chain of “fillers” in the middle of the series. Although very enjoyable to watch, I feel that the series would have been much more memorable if it had only run for 13 episodes. This could have also helped the problem I addressed earlier. This is contradictory to what I said in the past, when I was excited about the episode extension, but this isn’t to say that the series still wasn’t amazing with the long episode number.
Another one of Touka Gettan’s major appeals was its mystery. Some of us very much enjoyed to guess what was happening with the plot after each episode. Others, however, could not stand the headache. To these people, well, your loss. By the end of the series, all questions are still not answered. I’m not sure if this is with the intent of wanting fans to play the game, or to further appeal to our curious imaginations, but I think it was very fitting for the series. In some ways, the series was wrapped up fine, going in a full circle by revealing the answers to the questions left by the introduction. There were many small things to notice, such as the firefly parallels. Hey, the series has replay value for sure. If you guys would like to formulate your theories with me, I would love to participate.
Now, I’ve said a lot of dumb things about this show in my impressions throughout my blogging. I probably had no idea what I was talking about in the beginning, but that’s just how this series is. There was no way to guess what was next, which was proven to me on many occasions. Granted I did guess some things right, most of my assumptions were quite off base. I would say that my impressions got better with my writing, but I’m not sure if that is the case. Speaking of that, this is my first 26 episode series to complete since the beginning of my blogging experience. My reviews of this series have been very inconsistent throughout, and for that I apologize. I tend to blog with the long term in mind, but I guess the present is typically seen as more important. Heck, maybe I’ll rewrite the posts someday when I rewatch the series. That’ll just depend on how busy I am. With all of that said, I am glad to have been able to watch and blog this beautiful love story, and here’s a big shout out to everyone else who actually enjoyed this wonderful series!

To think it actually ended like this.lol. There are still so many questions left unanswered which is mess up. This show deserved an award to be the most Confusing Anime I ever saw. Oh yeah I have no idea how this is in any way to relate to moonlight lady beside the magic and the girl. This episode did fill in some gaps. i kinda expect more from this show but i guess they disappointed me a little. Well now your free from this anime and have some free time. I guess I’ve to marathon this series. Oh yeah by the way congrats on your first 26 episode anime
. You should be proud that you complete one anime series
I probably should’ve commented before the last entry on this show, but thank you so much for continuing to blog it throughout the season. Although not my favorite show from the spring, you’re certainly right about it being memorable (and enjoyable). It’s not something I would recommend to just anyone, but that’s part of what makes Touka Gettan what it is.
Anyways, again, thank you for blogging on this show; it’s actually the way I found my way over here. I really enjoyed reading another person’s thoughts on the episodes, as it helped me sort out some of my own opinions and theories. And with a show like this, reading differing opinions are a must for enjoying it!
Thanks for blogging this enjoyable show. I actually don’t think there is much left unknown, if we can accept the hints as facts. But they certainly didn’t lay everything out simply for us, did they? My take is that Yumiko is inhabited by Juna, who is really the one doing the magic.
When the train entered the tunnel, we saw the skeletons in the underground shrine from early in the series, then Yumiko lying on the altar, then Juna smiling as she created Momoka (I guess), perhaps from Yumiko’s thoughts.
But the details of the plot are not that important, it seems to me: as you say, we are “entranced” by the scenes as they pass. To me, this show had a special magic. It entranced me, anyway. And the voice of Hayami Saori (Momoka) was the most entrancing thing of all.
Totali, I have seen a lot of these episodes… and I have no idea what is going on. It’s a matter of opinion. A positive way of describing this show is “a trip.” A negative interpretation is that of a poorly executed narrative. I don’t know what to think… I’ll put it this way: If I found the original premise more interesting, I might have been able to fight through the pretense and various other confusing execution decisions to enjoy this show. But, Alas, the narrative didn’t do it for me. In my opinion, the show may have been good IN SPITE of the unfortunate chronology, as it only hurts the fluid and natural telling of the story. But, I’ll admit that I felt the same way about Haruhi, just the premise was more interesting to me, so I fought through it and enjoyed it in spite of the episode order. But, I digress. Anyway, I give mad props to any man who is able to blog this thing.
Sniper > Ok, I’m coming out after all this time. I actually watched Moonlight Lady. Yea, come on. It was for research….really! There are actually a lot of similarities between the two series, for example the pool of life or whatever from this episode. There was also a small girl in ML. Remember though, Touka Gettan is only a spin off of Moonlight Lady, not a sequel. Really, it could be considered a whole new show very easily. Also, the the ova and the show are quite different for um…obvious reasons. Yea, I’m not watching Moonlight Lady again….Anyways, I’m actually completing a lot of shows this week! My slate is being wiped clean for the next season ^.
Erin > I’m glad you enjoyed the ride! I’m just happy that you actually enjoyed my writing. I’m still in the belief that no one reads my posts, even if it’s not true anymore (noob4life?). Thanks for deciding to posts your final thoughts ^.
hashihime > Thank you for helping to spread the joy of Touka Gettan on your own blog, especially in its beginning stages. In fact, I left out my thoughts on the upcoming seiyu out of the final impression because I thought you covered it much better already on your own blog. I agree with you on the ‘everything has been answered, but it hasn’t’. That’s just how this show is from start to finish, and I love it.
Rentington > I always love it when someone brings a different opinion to the table. It just proves that this show isn’t for everyone. I have been trying to imagine what it would be like to watch this show in the chronological order, and I just don’t think it would have been as powerful. The reverse order was not the only thing Touka Gettan did that was unique, it was just the thing that stood out the most. I guess the minority of us loved this, while it turned off the majority. That’s why I think this show will end up to be more of a ‘cult favorite’ rather than a mainstream hit, but hey, that’s what happened with Carnelian’s Yamibou right? By the way, I saw Densha again yesterday. I almost asked for his autograph LOL.
Have you seen the TV drama of Densha Otoko? I’m sure you have. It’s great, but they made him WAY too nerdy. Like, after the first six times he cried talking to her, most women, especially one of her caliber, might have cut the chord.
I don’t know how big of a fan you are of Japanese live action, but seeing how this anime season looks to be a little thin, you should consider blogging one.
Of course I’ve seen it! I’m not a huge fan of Japanese live action, but I have watched a few. Besides the movies, Death Note 1-2, Mushishi, Nana 1-2, Battle Royal, Densha Otoko, and Honey and Clover, I’ve watched the JDramas Densha Otoko, Hana Yori Dango 1-2, Proposal Daisakusen, and a bit of 1 litre of tears. If you want to find out about anything I’ve watched, you can always just check out my AnimeSeen. Honestly, I like to let Hinano handle JDramas, as she’s the right person for the job. With my writing style, I just can’t put the time into blogging an hour long thing on a regular basis. Besides, even if the next season is thin, I need to lay off for Uni anyways.
Wow. Everything I love has ended. I’m going to watch this series backwards when I get the chance because I just want it to wow me again. But I truly, truly agree with you: people need to get over the controversial subjects of this show. I think those parts actally made this show better. It’ll just be a gem waiting to be found by others now. I like it that way.
I definitely call this show the gem of the season back when it first started airing. I wish I could watch this backwards like I planned, but I don’t think I’ll have time to any time soon, haha.
But I have a question where I can find epi 25 and 26
I searched for them so long ^^ can some one tell me?
where I can find episodes 25 and 26? please tell me T_T
Since you guys are asking so eagerly…check TT in the community links to the side :S. I blog raw (that is, without subtitles), so you probably won’t find the subbed versions yet.
Finally saw this today. And then watched the first episode.
Well I think the ending (by that I mean the beginning) was cool in that it showed that everything was sort of begun by Yumiko and Kikyou.
If you watch the first episode (again) you’ll notice alot of parallels to this one (Including: Haruhiko walking through the two lines of maids, Touka in the kimono, and the doll Kikyou picks up).
Overall the series was interesting. I find myself alittle confused over what I liked in the series, despite the fact that I like the series nonetheless.
Overall now. I like how the series ended (reffering to the ACTUAL ENDING)
