Zero no Tsukaima 2 - 12 (Final)
What are you talking about? This was awesome! My final impression is included.
Summary:
Saito appears just in time to save Louise from an enemy attack, while the city lays in chaos. While the airships are being boarded with evacuees, Henrietta is informed of the situation. With an army of seven million approaching, Henrietta still insists on taking the last ship out. Elsewhere, Louise explains the mission she accepted without Henrietta’s knowledge. Saito attempts to stop her from sacrificing herself, but Louise expresses that it is for everyone’s sake. Louise embraces Saito while advising Saito to run away, and Saito eventually agrees with Louise. He starts to prepare a drink for the two, when Louise suddenly requests a marriage. Louise obtains two flowers from a closing shop, Ekulerudamru, before the two head to a church. There, Saito prepares the sleeping potion before the vows. Saito expresses his love for Louise, but Louise faints before she can reply. Taking her outside, Saito finds Gulio waiting for them. Saito expresses his want to fight for the woman he loves, before leaving Louise in Gulio’s hands.
Louise wakes aboard an airship, shocked at the current situation. Meanwhile, Saito faces against the countless enemy army. Although he fends off several of them, he eventually falls with the desire to live on for Louise. Aboard the airship, the Ekulerudamru in Louise’s hands fades. Later, although they were saved, the inhabitants of the magical academy grief over Saito’s death. Louise is finally able to admit her love for Saito in tears, when the Ekulerudamru in her hands suddenly lights back up. Louise runs outside to find Saito in front of the school, and the two embrace each other happily. However, when Saito mentions that he was saved by a large breasted fairy, Louise’s usual anger returns. Saito runs away from something tougher than an army of seven million, while the rest of the academy expresses their gladness that Saito is still alive.
Impression:
So, typically as of late, I watched this episode late because of Uni. Because of that, I had already read a lot of the other anime blogs who had covered the episode. I’m just not someone who is bothered by spoilers. Kurogane’s impression stood out to me in particular, labeling the episode as a failure. With that, I was kind of expecting to be disappointed by this episode. In actuality, I loved it! The beginning of the episode was serious business while building up to the climax of the series, as expected, and I was overjoyed at the marriage scene (WOO!). It’s pretty cool that they showed the scene from the OP, which had the silly sounds just like the last episode of the first season. Saito’s fight was totally awesome. I’m signing up for the love power army right now! Louise’s scenes of loss were pretty tear jerking, and it was just great when Saito came back. He was saved by a silly fairly, so? This show has always been a mix of serious business and love comedy. That’s what defines the show! There was no way that they would end the series on a sad note. That would have been even worse.
As much as I liked this episode, my overall impression might not be as good. The series had some great episodes, but for the most part, this season just didn’t have the great mix of humor and plot that the first season had. Like Kabitzin likes to mention a lot, this season seemed to focus way too much on Agnes, a character that was only introduced in this season. Besides that, her background story did not really add much to the overall story. As powerful as Colbert’s arc was, it just didn’t play well into the overall plot. Speaking of that plot, it was barely touched on! The war seemed to take a small part in the background, with the main antagonist appearing like twice or something. The last episode might have finally taken things into action, but it definitely seemed forced. I don’t think it would have been that hard to have one more episode to slow things down a little bit. Maybe they could have taken that crappy episode with the random soldier out. Oh well. In the end, the series was only decent as a sequel to our beloved Zero no Tsukaima. Here’s to hoping the third season will be much better, when and if we ever get it.
PS: Mamiko Noto as the fairly? Um…awesome!?

I don’t like to admit it, because I am rooting for this show to rock, but I agree that this was a far weaker season than the first. But, I still liked it. Every character became less likable, though. Even Saito. He actually deserved it a few times this season. Here’s hoping for a new one. The plot was “meh” but the characters were still pretty strong, I think.
eh i quite agree, ending couldve been better but i still liekd it, i dont know why others are ripping on how it sucks adn what not. i gues speople wnated more action lol. i thoguht they were going to acutally kill off saito but too bad eh? :/ there should be a 3rd season @__@#
Yes, it was actually awesome up till the final 5 minutes or so of the episode.
What I’m pissed off about is how they just abruptly revived Saito at the end, just to give the show a happy ending, but totally fucking up the whole emotional buildup and atmosphere that was done in the whole episode.
You know… the perfect ending would have been until Louise find out the Ekulerudamaru sparks again full of life, just to tell us Saito was alive and that’s it… but no they have to ruined with Louise getting mad at him.
The fight sequence was awesome; a la 300 like most people have pointed out already. Well, I guess we’ll see another season if JC Stuff is in the mod. We’ve reached novel # 7 with this end.
You know what, I watched it and I liked the ending, actually. I thought it fit in with the general mood of Zero no Tsukaima, especially the part about the fairy’s rack. Even though it finished strong, I still thought this season was teh suck overall.
Rentington > Yea, this season just didn’t have the magic that the first season had. I actually thought the characters became more likable this season! Well, of the ones we actually got to see anyways xD. I mean, there was quite a bit of development, especially with Saito and Louise.
MiDEN > If they killed off Saito, how the heck could there have been ZnT! As much as we all like Louise, he’s definitely the main character. Oh yea, and it’s not Agnes.
Kurogane > I loved how the BGM suddenly faded as soon as Saito mentioned the fairy ;P. They had to do it! Zero no Tsukaima isn’t meant for dramatic endings! It’s a love comedy, come on!
Syaoran Li > I actually have to agree that an ending like that would have been awesome, but again, I have so say that it wouldn’t be true to Zero no Tsukaima’s style. I’m definitely looking forward to more.
Kabitzin > KABITZIN AGREES! See kids, all is well in the world. (edit: oshi- it looks like Kabitzin got something too…:S)
This is the best episode I ever saw. I can’t wait for the Third season.
T-T-Tiffiania!! My blond-fairy beauty~ She has appeared (last episode though…). This is the second most wonderful moment in my anime-life (the first being auauau). Third season away~ Fang-tan will die without more Tifa! Noooo!
Sniper > Oh, you’ll be waiting. ;P
Fang-tan > lol! So is Tifa that elf’s name? If they said it in this episode I definitely missed it.
I just know from the novels. I think I spelt her full name wrong though~
