Subculture Anime Blog

Fall 2007 Preview

So it’s typically not my style to do these, but with so many people wondering what I was going to blog these past few weeks, I thought I’d have to do it. This lists a lot of the anime I am even slightly interested in, but I left out shows that did not even fall under my radar. For a more comprehensive list, check out Tenka Seiha’s list. I basically stole all of my information from Aroduc anyways. I am trying to blog 5-7 shows this season. I have already listed out five shows that I will blog for certain, and I’m leaving two slots open for anything else that seems interesting to me.

Sketchbook -Full Colors-
Website: http://www.sketch-full.net/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 1st, 2007
Summary/Impression: This is a show about girls in art school. Many of my favorite seiyu, like Yui Makino, are playing roles in this series. I’ve been wanting to fit a slice of life show into my blogging schedule for awhile now, as it is the genre I watch the most next to love comedies, and this seems like the perfect one to do it. I’m an art student in college right now, and the seiyu line up alone has me very excited about this show.
Likeliness of Blogging: Very High

Bamboo Blade
Website: http://www.square-enix.co.jp/magazine/yg/introduction/bamboo/special.html
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 1st, 2007
Summary/Impression: It’s a story about a boy who gets put into the position to train a girls’ kendo team. This sounds like the typical harem series, but you know how I am with love comedies. As long as this show focuses more on the character development rather than kendo, I might blog it.
Likeliness of Blogging: Medium

Da Capo II
Website: http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/dc2/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 1st, 2007
Summary/Impression: Taking place after the first series, the cherry blossom trees are still blooming. Sakurai Toshiyuki lives with his two sisters, and he meets numerous other girls with unique traits. I’m going to be honest, I could not get past the first few episodes of the original Da Capo. Even though it is said that this series can be watched as is, my tolerance for these game adaptations has gotten very low lately.
Likeliness of Blogging: Low

Mokke
Website: http://www.avexmovie.jp/lineup/mokke/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 2nd, 2007
Summary/Impression: A story about two girls who can see ghosts, and their learning about them. The premises reminds me a lot of Mushishi and similar shows which I’ve grown to love. However, these types of shows are usually hit or miss. If I don’t blog this show, I’ll probably end up marathoning it later.
Likeliness of Blogging: Medium

Myself; Yourself
Website: http://www.yetigame.jp/myselfyourself/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 2nd, 2007
Summary/Impression: A man returns to his hometown after a long absence, finding everything the way it was before he left. Ew….bishoujo anime! Yea, I haven’t been able to tolerate these kinds of anime the way I used to. Who knows though, they could surprise me.
Likeliness of Blogging: Low

Blue Drop -Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku-
Website: http://blue-drop.jp/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 2nd, 2007
Summary/Impression: It’s a mecha anime with yuri. Yuri!? Ew! Who wants to watch that! …..*snicker* Ok, this is one of those shows that I will probably watch later and love, but I would have to marathon it. Don’t count on this making it to my blog schedule for the next season.
Likeliness of Blogging: Low

Suteki Tantei Labyrinth
Website: http://www.shonenmagazine.com/works/labyrins/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 2nd, 2007
Summary/Impression: Well, from the title, it’s a pretty safe guess that this anime will be about a detective and mystery. I’m really not really digging the generic Studio Deen art that much, and I’m not expecting much from the anime in general. I mean, are you guys excited about this detective show?
Likeliness of Blogging: Very Low

Majin Tantei Nogami Neuro
Website: http://www.ntv.co.jp/neuro/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 2nd, 2007
Summary/Impression: Yako’s father was murdered in a locker room. She meets a demon from hell, named Nougami Neuro, who eats riddles. Neuro forces Yako to become a detective to help him solve mysteries, so that he can find the ultimate mystery. I’m not usually one to blog shounen shows like this, and the plot seems pretty silly.
Likeliness of Blogging: Low

Night Wizard
Website: http://www.nightwizard.jp/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 2nd, 2007
Summary/Impression: Based on a video game, there are monsters invading an alternate present. Those who wield magic, Wizards, are the only ones who can stop them. There’s a lot of magic in this season, isn’t there? This is another show that I wouldn’t typically blog. The art doesn’t look bad though.
Likeliness of Blogging: Low

Ultimate Survivor Kaji
Website: http://www.ntv.co.jp/kaiji/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 2nd, 2007
Summary/Impression: Kaji, an astounding gambler, takes on the debt of a total stranger. However, this is a very intense debt that can put his life in danger. I’m not impressed with the plot or art of this show. This is just the kind of series that I would probably never touch!
Likeliness of Blogging: Very Low

Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun
Website: http://pc.webnt.jp/ninomiya/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 3rd, 2007
Summary/Impression: Ninomiya has trouble with girls, so his sister brings in another girl to live with him. Ok, so I think I’m the only one who is extremely excited about this one. I mean come on, it’s got love comedy written all over it. Provided I can get access to this series, my blogging of it is almost guaranteed.
Likeliness of Blogging: Very High

Dragonaut The Resonance
Website: http://www.dragonaut.com/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 3rd, 2007
Summary/Impression: An action anime about people who have the powers to fight against mechanical dragons? Newtype USA was making a pretty big deal about this anime, but it’s hard for me to be interested in it. I’m not a big fan of the typical Gonzo show.
Likeliness of Blogging: Low

Clannad
Website: http://www.bs-i.co.jp/clannad/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 4th, 2007
Summary/Impression: Tomoya is a boy labeled as a delinquent. His life changes when he meets Nagisa. He starts seeing dreams of a desolate world, where he meets another girl who can create bodies out of junk. I typically try to limit my “shows that everyone and their mom is blogging” count to two, and my first choice happens to be Clannad. I mean come on, it’s Kyoani.
Likeliness of Blogging: Very High

Shakugan no Shana 2
Website: http://www.shakugan.com/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 4th, 2007
Summary/Impression: My second choice (see above) would be Shana 2. Continuing off from last season, this show does not really need further explaination. I’m really excited about the second season, and it’s guaranteed that I will watch it whether I blog it or not. I even blogged the movie.
Likeliness of Blogging: High

You’re Under Arrest: Full Throttle
Website: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/taiho/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 4th, 2007
Summary/Impression: The continuation of the popular You’re Under Arrest, this story follows the life of policewomen, Miyuki and Natsumi. I have never watched the original series, and I can’t say I honestly plan to. It’s just really hard for me to get into classics. Don’t count on me blogging this one.
Likeliness of Blogging: Low

ef -a tale of memories
Website: http://www.ef-memo.com/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 6th, 2007
Summary/Impression: Hirono Hiro is a shoujo manga artist. His life changes when he meets a girl who tries to steal his bike. This is based off a very popular visual novel, but I could really care less about that. Despite looking like another harem anime, I am very excited to see SHAFT’s new work.
Likeliness of Blogging: High

Kimikiss Pure Rouge
Website: http://www.kimikiss-pure-rouge.jp/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 6th, 2007
Summary/Impression: Kyouichi has never been kissed, one year from graduation. It’s time to change that before the school festival. To be honest, the only thing I really know about this anime is that Moyism seems to be very excited about it. It sounds like it has love love though, and that always opens up the possibility for me.
Likeliness of Blogging: Medium

Gundam 00
Website: http://www.gundam00.net/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 6th, 2007
Summary/Impression: It’s Gundam. Do I really need to spill the plot synopsis? The animation looks top notch, and I’m very excited about the new series. Who doesn’t love Gundam? It’s guaranteed that I’ll be watching this, but I’m just not ready to start blogging this kind of show.
Likeliness of Blogging: Low

Shugo-Chara
Website: http://shugo-chara.com/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 6th, 2007
Summary/Impression: All of the students at Seiyo Elementary think that Hinamori Amu is the collest girl in class. However, she is actually very shy, and wishes to have the courage to be herself. One day, she finds a group of magic eggs in her bed, which contain guardians with the ability to change human abilities. So, this sounds like a shoujo/mahou shoujo type show. Do I look like I blog either kinds of those shows?
Likeliness of Blogging: Low

Prism Ark
Website: http://www.p-ark.tv/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 7th, 2007
Summary/Impression: Based off of a popular game, Hyaweh attends a school for mages and knights. This is interrupted by a horrific war. Ok, the only exposure to this series I had was the preview of it after the last Zero no Tsukaima 2 episode. These types of shows don’t usually appeal to me, but the animation looked pretty cool.
Likeliness of Blogging: Very Low

Minami-ke
Website: http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/minami-ke/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 7th, 2007
Summary/Impression: The Minami sisters all have their own different personalities. This is the story of their typical lifestyle. I dunno, there’s not much background on this show. It’s a slice of life comedy, which I typically like, but I’m really not sure if I will be able to blog something that sounds so generic.
Likeliness of Blogging: Low

Rental Magica
Website: http://www.kadokawa.co.jp/sneaker/magica/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 7th, 2007
Summary/Impression: Iba Itsuki has had no experience with magic, until he inherited his father’s company. In the Astral, he becomes responsible for those with magical powers. Magic? Sounds fun! This just seems like one of those shows that I would marathon later though, rather than a show I would even come close to blogging.
Likeliness of Blogging: Very Low

Maple Story
Website: http://maplestory.jp/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 7th, 2007
Summary/Impression: Based on a game with the same title, this is an adventure fantasy story that follows Nina and Al. Ok, this is like a kids show. The art looks really silly, but not in the way I prefer. I do think the chick with the sword looks really funny on the site though.
Likeliness of Blogging: Very Low

Jyushin Enbu - Hero Tales
Website: http://www.jyushin.jp/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 7th, 2007
Summary/Impression: Taitou holds the power of the seventh star, Hokuto. He, his sister Laila, and his friend Ryuukou are on a journey to find the legendary sword which will lead him to his destiny. This looks like a fighting anime! I don’t really watch much fighting anime!
Likeliness of Blogging: Very Low

Genshiken 2
Website: http://www.genshiken.info/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 9th, 2007
Summary/Impression: The sequel to the first popular series, this is about a group of otaku who belong to the “Society for Modern Visual Studies” club. We basically watch the lives of everyday otaku. I loved the first series, and I fully intend to watch this. However, I would rather watch it on my own time than try to say things about it. I’m not even an otaku!
Likeliness of Blogging: Medium

Kodomo no Jikan
Website: http://www.kojika-anime.com/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 10th, 2007
Summary/Impression: Daisuke is the new teacher for a 3rd grade class. In this class, there is a group of trouble making girls, and one that seems to have a liking for him. Yea, everyone has heard of the controversy over this show, but I’m really not fazed too much about it. It’s still a love comedy, and I even blogged the ova.
Likeliness of Blogging: High

Moyasimon
Website: http://www.kamosuzo.tv/top.html
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 11th, 2007
Summary/Impression: No, not Moyism. Also known as Tales of Agriculture, this is about a kid who can see and talk to bacteria. This results in all kinds of trouble. I actually think the story behind this anime could be very interesting. I love unique anime. If I find out that this becomes as interesting as it seems, I might end up blogging it.
Likeliness of Blogging: Medium

Shion no Ou
Website: http://www.shion-oh.com/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 13th, 2007
Summary/Impression: Ishiwatari Shion’s parents were murdered when she was four years old. The only clue she had was a perfectly arranged shogi board. In the future, she enters the shogi scene while being reminded of his parents’ death. Did you say shogi? Wow! Ok, I’m probably not even going to touch this show. I just thought it was really funny.
Likeliness of Blogging: Very Low

Ghost Hound
Website: http://www.wowow.co.jp/anime/ghosthound/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 18th, 2007
Summary/Impression: There’s not much information about this show yet, but the title should be an obvious hint as to what will be going on. I typically like trippy shows like this, but I’m just not the one to blog it. Besides that, I’m just not ready to blog too many 20 plus episode series.
Likeliness of Blogging: Low

Hidamari Sketch Special
Website: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/hidamari/
Info: ANN
Premiers: October 18th, 2007
Summary/Impression: The sequel/special to our beloved Hidamari Sketch by SHAFT. Yuno lives with her close friends, Miyako, Sae, and Hiro, while heading towards her dream of becoming an artist. I love the series, so it’s almost a given that I will be blogging this ova.
Likeliness of Blogging: High

Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations
Website: http://www.shonenmagazine.com/tsubasa_tokyo/
Info: ANN
Premiers: November 16, 2007
Summary/Impression: From Clamp’s Tsubasa Chronicle series, this ova takes place within the Tokyo arc of the manga. I love Clamp. I love Yui Makino. I love Tsubasa Chronicle. Granted I haven’t even finished the series up to the point it is at yet, there is still a high possibility that I will be blogging this. I guess I just need to start catching up!
Likeliness of Blogging: High

If there’s other shows that you are interested in, mention them. I will also be editing this list as the days go on. Keep in mind that although these are shows that I want to blog, I am limited to the resources available to me during Uni. I basically pray that the shows I want to blog will be available through IRC, and that ultimately decides what I will be able to cover. What do you guys think of these shows?

UPDATED: Most of the new series should be up now, with the exception of Moonlight Mile -Touch Down- which has already started airing. There are still a few OVAs and things floating around, but I’ll address those when I have the time.

    I will watch/try to watch
Bamboo Blade: I do kendo myself. It will interesting how they blend character development and kendo…I actually haven’t seen to many anime with kendo as a main point.

    Myself, Yourself
    Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun
Prism Arc: read a review of the game, sounds interesting.
    ~ef~
    Shana Second
    Clannad
Da Capo II: I hear you don;t have to know anything about the previous Da Capo to watch this…So I’ll try it

Maybe I’ll try to look at the KnJ anime..I read the manga. …..

  2. Sniper September 26th, 2007 8:14 pm

You really surprise me when you put up a fall preview. There are alot of good and exciting anime. There are few anime that looks really bad. But you should never judge a book by its cover. For example I thought Overdrive was stupid show but it turn out pretty good. Don’t blog the popular ones. So many good ones. Damn School. its a shame you won’t blog most of the good ones. i really can’t find myself to like Shojo anime. How could you not finish watching Tsubasa Chronicle?

    http://www.animeph.com/anime-season-list-fall-2007.html

There are a few you miss. if your interested. Well I look Froward to your future works and i hope you don’t let us down. If its possible can you provide some cm or pv for each anime 8)

  3. Iori September 26th, 2007 8:32 pm

    Hmm… will be blogging:
    - Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (Claymore’s replacement and another MadHouse X Shounen Jump production. The manga was pretty ignored, but it’s a nice work)
    - Clannad (same reason as yours)
    - Shakugan no Shana 2 (I’ve got a little spot Thursdays and it’ll nice to fill it with some melon-pan :3 )
    - ef (¿SHAFT + Akiyuki Shinbo + eroge? DO WANT!)
    - Gundam 00 (well… the animation looks great… Bah, who am I kidding? It’ll bring lots of comments)

  4. Rentington September 26th, 2007 9:03 pm

Too early to tell what will rock and what won’t. There are always disappointments and surprises. I’m getting pumped for fall season. Hard to top Spring this year, though.

  5. waffo September 26th, 2007 9:33 pm

His parents? I could’ve sworn Shion is a girl in the manga.

  6. Totali September 26th, 2007 10:24 pm

Avisch > The only thing I’m afraid of about Bamboo Blade is that it might come off as a generic love comedy, or it might focus too much on the kendo for me to be interested. We’ll see. I’m certain to cover at least a few of the shows you’ve listed though. :P

Sniper > I do try to branch out and blog shows that everyone else isn’t watching, but I just don’t have the time I did in High School. I basically only have time to watch the anime I blog, so I’m going to end up blogging what I watch no matter what. Besides, I already have a pretty “unique” taste in anime. I couldn’t finish Tsubasa Chronicle because of lack of time. It’s a long series! I know I missed a few, but I already addressed that above. If you want the full list, check out Tenka Seiha. Aroduc has also provided all of the cm’s and pv’s. I might update this list with the full listing if I feel like I need to, but you’d have to give me a day or two.

Iori > Yea, I looked up Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, but it just didn’t appeal to me. I’m not usually one to watch shounen regularly. The rest of you lists sounds like the norm though. Definitely looking forward to the next season. :P

Rentington > Definitely. The past few seasons have already proven that to me. I dunno, I think Spring could get blown out of the water with the line up we have. Hey, it’s possible.

waffo > Oh man, that was a total screw up on my part. That’s what I get for rushing this. Fixed and fixed. Thanks for pointing that out!

  7. aurabolt September 26th, 2007 10:46 pm

I was going to say give Minami-ke a try, but from the looks of the site, the anime doesn’t look like it’ll be high quality. Check out at the manga at least, it’s one of my favorite.

  8. Klypsche September 26th, 2007 11:06 pm

Lots of interesting stuff here in the fall, can’t wait to watch! I can finally watch some new ones at the time..

  9. Fang-tan September 26th, 2007 11:26 pm

Woah. Woah. Just wait. Woah. What? Rental Magica comes out this fall? Oh mah gawd. I’m going to watch Clannad, Kodomo no Jikan, ef - a tale of memories, Prism arc AND Rental Magica? I’m going to have an overlead of drama- lolicon- more drama and magic mishaps!I wonder if there is a ward for that in my local hospital…? I’m going to watch Prism Arc for sure because I’mma sucker for magical school settings. Rental Magica seems like it could be in that atmosphere. So I think I’ll check it out for awhile~ I was really looking forward to it too…!

  10. SsK September 27th, 2007 12:16 pm

Wow so many new anime to watch. But I really hope for a Seto no Hanayome movie/season 2 after season 1 ends =P it’s just so good.
I actually DL anime in the university library..quite funny but it works and BT isnt blocked thank god =D

  11. demitrickster September 27th, 2007 1:03 pm

I read the first few volumes of Bamboo Blade, and its acctually not a love/harem show at all. The main guy is just a teacher(a bad one at that) and it certainly doesnt seem like any love will develop.

  12. Totali September 27th, 2007 3:53 pm

aurabolt > Oh really? Hehe, that proves that you can’t really judge a book by its cover. I guess it’ll be worth a check out, and I’ll probably end up watching it whether I blog it or not.

Klypsche > Almost too many huh? Well, I take into consideration that I probably won’t watch half of these in the end.

Fang-tan > You’re in for a treat this season I think. There are definitely a lot of shows with magic in them this season. Check out my update…there’s another one.

SsK > I go to college in state, so I head to my house every once in awhile to pick up shows that I can’t get here. It’s not really convenient for blogging though, and I’m too busy studying to do that all the time.

demitrickster > Oh really? Dang, that lowers my chances of blogging it by a lot. Thanks for the heads up….I might still check it out at the very least. :S

  13. 0rion September 28th, 2007 12:34 am

Wow, I think you’re the first person I’ve seen who has Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun high on their wish list. Nice to see somebody who’s not just listing the same shows that have generated a lot of buzz.

Also, very sad to see that you have Kaiji listed at very low. I’m really looking forward to it. But I’ll forgive since you have Sketchbook listed high. ;)

  14. An September 28th, 2007 2:36 am

Pardon my sily POV, but I actually like the part where this blog has underrateds covered. When there’s no blog did Seto no Hanayome and Touka Gettan reviews (yes I found both amusing, as well as whole bunch of anothers though), yours does and that’s what actually draws me lurking here. And by any means, please take this rant as a joke. :D

I already count at least 16 shows I’ll be watching this fall. T_T

  15. Totali September 28th, 2007 6:51 pm

Orion > Yea, I just have a different taste than most people. I know quite a few people who are excited about Kaji…I’m just not one of them ;P.

An > That’s not a silly point of view at all. I actually prefer to blog shows that aren’t being covered by everyone else. I tend to try to keep a balance of popular shows and lesser covered shows, but in the end I obviously blog what I want to. Keep in mind that my blogging schedule IS shaped by other blog coverage and what my viewers want, even if just a bit. :)

  16. Fang-tan September 30th, 2007 4:43 am

More? Oh well. Nothing will ever take the place of the demon cannon girl. I’m thinking of dropping Rental Magica (It hasn’t even started yet XD) but Prism Arc looks really good. I’m thinking of Shugo-Chara but until we get that Peach-Pit dark twist maybe I’ll wait on it.

I’m not the only person who thinks Sketchbook is like a badly looking Hidamari Sketch?

  17. Totali September 30th, 2007 10:10 am

Hehe, nah most people are putting Sketchbook off as a Hidamari rip off. I beg to differ!

I’m almost certain that Aroduc will be taking up Prism Ark, as well as a few other magic shows. I’m only slightly interested in Shugo-Chara, only because it is Peach Pit, but I probably won’t even touch it ;P.

Also, I’m kind of reshaping my schedule a bit…with only like 2 love comedies this season, I think Subculture is going to go through a slice of life season. I’m still gonna blog CLANNAD just because though x). I dunno though, it’s always too early to tell until the actual season starts.

  21. Totali October 5th, 2007 10:09 pm

Get fansubs? wtf! not here you won’t be!

Sniper > yea…oh well, more time for Thusdays shows xD

Lulu > Not this season. Maybe the next?
