Bamboo Blade – 01
OP: “BAMBOO BEAT” by Ryou Hirohashi, Megumi Toyoguchi, Sachiko Kojima, Houko Kuwashima & Rina Satou – not a bad song by the seiyu, though a bit plain. The actual animation isn’t super exciting.
Summary:
Chiba Kirino practices kendo alone in club, while her teacher Kojiro talks on the phone. He expresses that she should just have fun as he leaves. At home, Kojiro finds that he is low on cash, but he receives a gamble from his acquaintance in a bar. The next day, he seems like a changed person as he seriously trains with Kirino. Two male students, Eiga Danjuro and Nakata Yuji, show up to join that day as well. Kojiro wonders if he will be able to find a strong fighter while he wanders around with Kirino around campus, and one does appear exactly how they thought she would. Kojiro wishes for this girl, Kawazoe Tamaki, to join the kendo club, but she refuses.
At home, Tamaki’s father wonders why she will not join a club. She expresses her satisfaction with being at home, before going into her room to watch tv. The next day in the kendo club, Kojiro questions Yuji about his knowledge on Tamaki. Yuji is convinced that she will not join, and also finds Kojiro’s true intentions. Kojiro only wants to create a strong kendo club because he would win a large amount of food at the bar he frequents. Tamaki expresses her want for Yuji to stop calling her “Tama-chan” while riding home along side of him, but he doesn’t think that is necessary.
Danjuro introduces a new member to the kendo club the next day, a girl who seemingly exceeds the group’s expectations. Elsewhere, a boy named Toyama beats up a fellow student after he mistakingly takes his phone. After finding out what is going on in the kendo club, he begins abusing Danjuro in front of Miyazaki Miyako. Tamaki, who has been dragged in by Kirino, suddenly declares that she has joined the kendo club, before getting ready to face off against Toyama.
ED: “STAR RISE” by Ryou Hirohashi, Megumi Toyoguchi, Sachiko Kojima, Houko Kuwashima & Rina Satou – a very poppy song by the seiyu. I actually like it quite a bit! The actual animation just shifts through the girls in the series.
Preview: The preview is pretty interesting, with Kirino announcing the next episodes events in a very confusing way.
Impression:
Haha, wow. This was a really pleasant surprise. After finding out that this show wasn’t going to be a love comedy, my expectations for it went down quite a bit, but I had a smile on my face after actually watching it. Although the set up for the story is kind of plain, the way it was presented was very enjoyable. I laughed a lot at the random humor, and the characters are very likable. We quickly got a bit of background on two of the girls, and introduction to a few more characters. With lots of humor and a bit of drama, I’m actually looking forward to Bamboo Blade quite a bit. The question is whether or not it will fit into my schedule, because I really want to save my Monday slots for Sketchbook. Who knows though, it’s slice of life season for Subculture. I might just move one of the shows to Tuesday and blog both.

Wow, seems like they covered the first 5 chapters of the manga in one episode.
this looks pretty cool! I think I’ll watch it!
Thanks for the summary. XD My download is taking forever to finish, and I can’t wait to watch it because the animation looks really nice. It’s too bad it’s not a love-comedy, because that was also what I was looking forward to. ):
Lets all hope its good kendo. I wonder if this is a Shojo or has a girl as a main lead does anime don’t appeal to me.
Oooh. This one’s on my list to watch too. Thanks for the quick summary! It looks good and easy on the eyes. I’m looking forward to see it subbed soon (or else I won’t get to watch it properly, like SZS). Haha. ^_^ Men!
It looks like a decent show that I have some strange interest in. I have a feeling that Kirino will grow on me.
now..thats fast of you. i am working in office now !! dratszz
I was thinking about checking this anime out and you just confirmed that i should give it a try.
Kojiro-sensei played by Katsuyuki Konishi in his “Kamina-style”.
I’m sold…
“Kirino… your shinai is your soul!”
As I go through Gurren Lagann withdrawal, I’m also looking forward “Viral” Madarame in Genshiken for my voice acting fix.
I’m happy the new season is starting,I was getting bored of the old one.
Hehe, yea this one is definitely getting higher on my too blog list. If no one else seriously covers it, I’ll be all over it. We’ll wait till next week to find out.
hmm.. are the names of the character correct? apparently if you check ANN, Kojiro doesnt exist. i think they go by another name? @@
mmmmm I was just going by what was said in the episode. It says he goes by the name Kojiro in other places too, like the wiki. It’s like a nick name I think.
