Majin Tantei Nogami Neuro – 01

OP: “DIRTY” by Nightmare – Haha, Nightmare. I’ve finally gotten used to these guys after hearing so much from them. The animation is pretty much what you would expect from a shounen manga adaption.

Summary:

From under the world, the being Neuro decides to go up in search of more of what he wants. In the present time, a girl named Yako eats out with her friend. There are many people looking at her from afar, as she has recently become famous for being a very young detective. Yako gets a call, and is soon taken to Neuro on the other side. Neuro drags her off to a job, after leaving their office up to Shinobu Godai. Two officers, Jun Ishigaki and Eishi Sasazuka, also drive to this job location. When Yako reaches the job location, she recognizes it as the popular restaurant Toten. Eishi remembers Yako’s past situation when he sees her, and wonders why she is a detective.

The four are introduced to the owner Shiro Tato and chief chef Uno upon entering the restaurant. Shiro invites them into his office to explain the situation, showing them a threatening letter that was sent to them. However, Uno is killed in the kitchen during their absence. This raises the mystery, though Neuro seems to suggest that Shiro is the culprit. Yako takes the chance to try out one of the famous dishes that is laying out, but she expresses that it doesn’t taste quite right. This angers Shiro, as he rushes into his office. Yako is also forced out of the room by Jun.

Outside, Yako tells Neuro that food should make people feel joy, but what she had eaten made her feel sorrow. Neuro releases a few of his devices to determine the situation, and the two enter to declare Shiro the culprit. Neuro begins explaining the elaborate plan that he had come up with, and the evidence is even revealed. With this, Shiro reveals his motive and injects some of the soup he has prepared into himself. This transforms him into a monstrous creature, as he attacks Neuro. He isn’t even close to being able to defeat Neuro, and this results in his consumption. In the aftermath, Yako remembers when Neuro showed up in her life. She had despaired over her father’s death, who had supposedly committed suicide. She expressed that this was impossible, and Neuro appeared in her room behind her.

ED: “Kodoku no Hikari” by Kagami Seira – The ED is groovy! I actually like it quite a bit. The animation is moving still frames, which is pretty standard.

Preview: Up for another mystery?

Impression:

Hey, this wasn’t too bad compared to my original expectations. I did laugh at how many shounen stereotypes showed up in the episode though. I love how they actually played the DUN DUN DUN background track when they revealed the culprit. I mean, wow. Speaking of the mystery, how sad was that? It was too ridiculous to even call a real mystery. For one thing, why was that food sitting out so conveniently with a dead body next to it? Oh well. The shounen fighting showed up soon afterwards, with Neuro’s weird gadgets popping up. Neuro is the typical personality changing type protagonist, with the oddball heroine at his side (or doing the work for him). I’m actually a bit interested in Yako’s background. She’s a character that could grow on me, but what was up with the drool? Is that suppose to be attractive!? The cast was pretty strong, but filled with people you would expect to be in this kind of show. I have my doubts that I will actually follow this, but it looks like there will be a possibility of me watching it some time in the future.

It might be interesting to note that this is actually the “third case” from the story. Why they would purposefully start with the shittiest case is beyond me though. I’m kind of disappointed so far but I’ll give this 6 episodes.

I didn’t realise this was being animated by Madhouse, isn’t this their 3rd Shonen Jump anime after Death Note and Claymore?

shinigami > I will too, haha. If I don’t try to take this show seriously, it’s actually kind of enjoyable.

kiseki gurl > that’s what I’ve been hearing. I guess it’s just to get into what the anime will be about. Maybe next week will be the real “beginning”.

Iori > Heh, he’s pretty quirky. I dunno if I like him as much as Yako.

    Sniper > Looks decent.

Necromancer > Yea, I think that’s right! I wonder why they’ve taken such a liking to SJump shows? ;P
