Goshusho-sama Ninomiya-kun - 01

OP: “Yubikiri (ユビキリ)” by Mai Kadowaki & Miyuki Sawashiro - Yea, the OP is very generic and poppy, but I’m totally sold. The animation goes through some of the characters we’ll be seeing, and the situations Ninomiya gets in with the two girls.

Summary:

Ninomiya Shungo is being teased by the girls as usual, because they like to see his troubled face. Ninomiya is able to escape the room with a bit of trouble, but he falls into a trap set by the male students Inoue Taichi and Yoshida Heisuke. At random, a helicopter drops a girl off from a fairly high distance, causing a girl to crash on top of Ninomiya. Ninomiya has a dream where a girl from his childhood had asked for his kiss. However, she then changed her mind after bringing up a promise. Ninomiya wakes up next to the girl from earlier, so he tries to control his guilty feelings. The girl wakes, warning Ninomiya not to touch her. However, she is surprised when she can touch Ninomiya without problem. A man enters through the room, introducing himself to Ninomiya as Tsukimura Mikihiko. The girl is his sister, Mayu. Receiving a phone call from his sister, Ryoko, Ninomiya is left with the job of taking care of Mayu. A group of boys enter the room, and they are soon tranced by Mayu. They all walk towards her, but fall over when they get close to her. Ryoko calls Ninomiya back to give him this important detail, so he takes off with Mayu in his arms.

Ninomiya introduces Mayu to his house when they get there, allowing her to take a room. Mayu offers to help Ninomiya with dinner while he is preparing it himself, but this results in an awkward situation. Mayu slips and falls after making a mess with the faucet, and Ninomiya almost feels like kissing her in her unconscious state. This is quickly interrupted however, with the entrance of their siblings. While Mayu is in the bath, Ryoko and Mikihiko explain to Ninomiya that Mayu is a succubus, and that her kiss could be lethal. Ninomiya speaks with Mayu outside the bath afterwards, as he expresses his want to help her. Mayu tells Ninomiya of her dream to be with someone for a lifetime, before suggesting that she get out. She slips and falls soon after, resulting in an eye full for Ninomiya. Ryoko and Mikihiko have Ninomiya’s promise on camera, so they have him keep his word. That night, the two are forced to sleep together. Elsewhere, the student council leader Hojo Reika prepares for the next day’s events at school.

Preview: Ninomiya and Mayu go to school together, and Reika shows up.

Impression:

Ok, I admit it. This was bad. It was very bad. The production quality was bad, and the story was bad. But….I’M BLOGGING IT ANYWAYS. Yea! Love power!! Honestly, this is one of the most generic set ups I’ve seen in a long time. The succubus thing was not interesting at all, and the characters are all very unrealistic. I’m already getting a lot of Karin or Girls Bravo vibes. There was no real OP or ED this week, so I assume that they will show up in the next episode. I’m so ready to see those and the new character. This show could quite possibly become hard for me to bare in the future, but I’m going to see how far I can go. There are just no love comedies this season, so I have to hold onto something! Hopefully I can make this ride somewhat interesting for both you and me…..or maybe I’ll just drop it. We’ll see next week.

EDIT: Ok, apparently the only reason we didn’t get the OP was because of a bad distribution. The image quality also went up quite a bit, so I ended up liking the episode a lot more. The intro in the beginning explains why Ninomiya could jump so high, and the OP further enforces that he and Mayu will end up together. I am so watching this. I don’t care what anyone says!

Lolz, Totali. KEEP GOING! It could be so bad it’s good, eventually. You never know.

  2. Totali October 3rd, 2007 10:25 pm

Heck yea!!! Bad love comedies are what I live for!!!!

  3. Rentington October 3rd, 2007 10:58 pm

At the very least, you should wait to see what the other girl will bring to the table. The first few episodes with the lame girl always suck in these shows. For example, I thought Girls Bravo, which you mentioned, got a lot more interesting when Risa showed up. Of course, that show was embarrassingly bad, anyway (I still watched it, though). Maybe this one won’t be so cheesy.

  4. Totali October 3rd, 2007 11:03 pm

No, Rentington. I was dead serious. I’m watching this even if it is horrible. :DD

  5. aurabolt October 3rd, 2007 11:06 pm

I have yet to see a series from this season with art that blows me away. They all look like the same ol’ stuff.

  6. Rentington October 3rd, 2007 11:06 pm

Well jeez, Totali. What did you expect? The premise alone was enough to convince me this would be ridiculous and/or embarrassingly bad.

Hey, if you can make it through Nagasarete Airantou, you can make it through this.

  7. Totali October 3rd, 2007 11:09 pm

aurabolt > Hehe…that’s usually the case with most the anime in a season right? :S

Rentington > but I actually liked this a bit! You know how I am with love comedies! It’s not going to be “making it through”, it’s going to be trying to convince other people that I’m not crazy! Banzai!!!! xD

  8. davwon October 3rd, 2007 11:52 pm

I’m so waiting for this in review, cos’ i can’t find any in other blog. now for any romantic comedy+harem, i’ll definately looking for you, totali ^_^

  9. Rentington October 3rd, 2007 11:54 pm

I think you misunderstand… I love a lot of shows that I can’t defend. See: Beck. I can’t defend that piece of garbage, but I love the multicultural aspect of it… and the sweet Engrish. There is a good change I’ll like this one, too. Seems campy enough to work.

I’m encouraging you on. NEVER GIVE UP! TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS, FOX!

  10. Totali October 3rd, 2007 11:59 pm

davwon > Subculture is always your source for love comedies! ^.

Rentington > Woah woah, how can you NOT defend Beck? That anime wins hard and has always been at the top of my list. If people don’t like it, THEY are wrong. HAHA I just got my excuse to keep on going. btw your quote totally just gave me N64 flashback like no other. Oh man I need some sleep right now. ;P

  11. Iori October 4th, 2007 12:03 am

    lol, that was unexpected.
People don’t know about the secret greatness of some shows this season. That’s why I’m blogging Neuro no matter what it takes…
    Keep it like that, Totali!

  12. Rentington October 4th, 2007 12:18 am

I can’t defend it. It’s got a lot of problems. Very flawed in many ways. But, it’s one of my favorite shows ever. Of course, I have been playing in bands since high school and I can relate to a lot of the things going on.

I just love how Maho and Ryuusuke say “I’m more comfortable speaking in English than Japanese” in Japanese, then when they speak to someone in English, they are like: “Wuow, dat eez pwetty f***in’ Awesum.” It’s basically a Japanese show about American culture. That’s so interesting to me. Note how Maho is way more rude in English than in Japanese. We don’t use the F word THAT much over here. That is why it interests me. It’s like looking at my own culture from a different perspective.

You are all truly brave people. I managed to get myself to watch through all of Kakyuusei 2 the anime, and hated that anime with a passion afterwards, but at least I watched through it all!!

  14. hazy October 4th, 2007 3:06 am

Ohoho! New headers! You really are going all out on your Ninomiya campaign. Gambate! =)

  15. Sniper October 4th, 2007 6:44 am

This was really good. Looks like good love comedy. KEEP BLOGGING IT 8)

  16. Hinano October 4th, 2007 9:16 am

I figured I’ll give it another few episodes….even though it’s predictable and dumb as a break. Then again I’m saying this now, but what ends up happening is I’ll go watch episode 2 and be like “well shit, I don’t wanna keep watching this, let alone blog. *goes to play some MMO or draw narusaku pr0n instead.”

At this rate most of my watchings this season are gonna be jdramas…there’s a great lineup for the fall :D

  17. Hinano October 4th, 2007 9:17 am

And by break I meant brick.

Oh and also, there’s apparently a sequel manga to this, I saw it on a pamphlet that came with my Karin book.

  18. Totali October 4th, 2007 12:41 pm

Iori > Mainstream opinion has no effect here! It’s Subculture!

Rentington > Man, it is so nice to find other people who actually like that show as much as I do. Engrish? The engrish was awesome!!! I think Beck does really well to show the multicultural aspect of Japan as well. Oh man….great memories are coming back to me right now. btw….staying on subject fails =)

Newprimus > You have no idea how many bad love comedies I have watched all the way through….and I liked some of them. Yea..

hazy > I pledge allegiance to love comedies, no mater how good or bad they are…

Sniper > You don’t even need to tell me.

Hinano > Haha, that’s not bad at all. Maybe I’ll pick up a drama or two after reading your blog. I can’t bring myself to actually write on dramas though. Too long! That’s not my job anyways.. :P

They’re still coming out with Karin? Sequel? Wah!

  19. arigatou October 4th, 2007 12:42 pm

Sad to say despite the quality, I’m gonna feast on this anime this Fall along with KnJ. Itadakimasu !!

  20. Dularc October 4th, 2007 12:51 pm

Keep it, might end up being another SanXNagasumi, you may never know! Anyway, as i can see, you are just going through all new series and picking out the best, right? What´s the maximum number of show you think you will be blogging?

    Keep it up!

    ( x

  21. Totali October 4th, 2007 1:21 pm

arigatou > Heck yea! Munchu munchu :33

Dularc > Ehh…I don’t think so. I could at least see SnH’s potential when it aired. This one is low quality, straight up. I’m still watching it just cause though.

I’m blogging all 30(?) shows this season. YEA! Ok, not really. I’m aiming for 5-7. We’ll see what stays or goes in about 2 more weeks.

  22. Rentington October 6th, 2007 7:12 pm

Man… subbers be slow. I can’t handle the raw.

  23. Totali October 6th, 2007 9:21 pm

Heh, yea. Also, according to the list, nobody seems to have this planned for subbing yet. Looking at the quality, I’m guessing that this is going to end up like Chocosis, Happiness, etc….aka: love comedies that don’t get subbed for months until after they’ve finished airing. =\

mmmm learn Japanese! I’ll help! Eh, jk. Settle for what you need to settle for. :S

EDIT: whoops I’m an idiot…right after I linked that page, I saw that a subbing group apparently plans to sub it….now the question is how fast for you guys. x)

  24. Rentington October 7th, 2007 1:34 pm

I’m working on it. It would make things a lot easier.

  25. Rentington October 8th, 2007 2:02 am

Okay, dude. I’ve finally seen the subbed one.

Why is everyone so down on it? A seasoned anime viewer can tell this show suffers from trying to do too much in the first episode. Too ambitious. The pacing was all wrong. But, this is a common thing and is not indicative of the quality of the show. Sometimes shows go too slow, too, and before a good character comes in, you have to sit through all these episodes that are mediocre until the characters people actually like show up. You think this was lame? Imagine if it went on for 3 episodes. Ugh. I have full confidence the blue haired girl will bring this show up a notch… well, I hope so… cause this episode was a little mediocre, and, if you couldn’t tell by now, I always like the tsundere character over the shy type.

  26. Totali October 8th, 2007 6:48 pm

For me, it was the production value that was a turn off. The music for example, was pretty bad. The set up is also pretty generic, when usually love comedies will make me at least take notice. I do see myself enjoying this show though. I mean, I even enjoyed some parts of Airantou. I don’t regret watching that show at all, it just wasn’t the “best”. Haha, I’m probably one of the few who actually likes the dumb main character types rather than the tsuntsuns. Is that a main girl complex? xD

  27. Rentington October 8th, 2007 7:09 pm

It’s bad… but in all the right places to make it epic. Nagasarete was just underachieving.

  28. stevelikesanime October 8th, 2007 7:42 pm

ok ive finally seen the subbed version and yes this is kinda bad.
but still i want at least one love comedy in my premier anime and this might be it.
the succumbus thing a pretty weird. and i had alot of WTF moments especially the rip off to dead rising (just so you now its a zombie game.) with people wanting her was also weird.
still i expect this show to be better than nagasarete since the boy lives in all girl island plot is dead. the new one is boy meets a adrophobic girl being attracted by raping intent zombies XDD

love comedy all the way Totali

  29. Totali October 8th, 2007 10:18 pm

Rentington > We will see…we will see.

stevelikesanime > It was a lot like Girls Bravo and Karin too. That’s what I like to compare it too. I think this can top Airantou as well.

    LOVE COMEDIES 4EVER!!!

  30. hazy October 9th, 2007 4:56 am

I’ve just seen the subs! It’s not that bad. It even made me laugh here and there. What I like about these types of anime is that I won’t need to think much while watching! ~Lol.

It’s not something that I’d follow eagerly every week, but I might watch it now and then or later on for some light entertainment to pass the time. =)

  31. Nocturn October 10th, 2007 10:05 am

Anyone else noticed how much that Succubus girl looks alot like Miharu from Girls Bravo… hmm Androphobia… coinsidence??(did I spell that right) Anyway I thought the first ep. was kinda lame… I’ll still give it a shot. Who knows if it is truly good or not… Wonder why she keeps falling and knocking out alot though ???

  32. stevelikesanime October 11th, 2007 12:49 am

ya it has some elements of girls bravo in it and the randomness of her falling isnt getting anywhere but ill still give it a shot cuz im a softie for love comedies and it could just fit.

  33. Di Gi Kazune October 14th, 2007 3:16 pm

The only reason worth watching: Ren… err… Reika.
