Clannad – 01

OP: “Megumeru ~cuckool mix 2007~ (メグメル~cuckool mix 2007~)” by eufonius – The animation is pretty. Very pretty. The song is very fitting, and everything you would expect it to be. I’ve liked eufonius’ work since Noein.

Summary:

Okazaki Tomoya expresses how much he hates the town he lives in, because it gives him feelings that he would rather forget. Expressing the days that continue in cycles, he wonders if the day will come where change is brought. Tomoya walks behind a girl who expresses her love for the school. She expresses her troubles about change, so Tomoya tells her that it will be alright as long as she can find the fun and happy things to do. Soon after this girl, Furukawa Nagisa, realizes that Tomoya is behind her, they begin walking to school together. Tomoya finds his friend Sunohara Youhei being abused by jocks when he reaches the school, but he does nothing to help him. A woman named Sagara Misae appears to break this up, before expressing her own troubles caused by the situation.

Youhei tells Tomoya his plans in his room later, while Tomoya teasingly causes trouble for him. As the two let time pass, Tomoya thinks to himself that the days continue to go on like this. In an ended world, a young girl lives alone. A young boy wonders why he is interested in her, as he describes the place. Tomoya overhears people talking about Youhei in the classroom the next day, before taking his seat. The class president, Fujibayashi Ryou, mentions to Tomoya that he is late, and reminds him that it would be better to be on time. Ryou prepares to tell Tomoya his fortune, as her cards fall to the ground. Ryou tells Tomoya that he will be late the next day, after a romantic encounter with a girl. Ryou’s sister Kyou appears to defend Ryou, but the misunderstanding is cleared up as she jokingly wishes him luck.

Tomoya walks outside to find Nagisa eating, and she will not answer him until she is done. Nagisa expresses her love for the school when Tomoya asks what she is doing, and explains why she is alone. Tomoya gives advice to Nagisa for making friends, but it doesn’t quite work for her. The two are drawn to noise in the distance, and they find bikers in the school’s ball field. Tomoya prepares to help, but the girls around tell him not to worry. The girl who has arrived, Sakagami Tomoyo, quickly finishes off the bikers to the crowd’s amazement. After confirming that Tomoyo is a transfer student, Tomoya and Nagisa finally introduce themselves to each other before parting.

Youhei drags Tomoya along with him after school, as he challenges Tomoyo. Tomoyo quickly finishes Youhei off, before Tomoya explains the rumor he heard about her strength. Tomoya finds Nagisa opening the door to a club room later, but they discover that it is empty. Tomoya remembers that the drama club’s activity stopped earlier, before offering to help Nagisa. Nagisa wonders why Tomoya is being so kind to her after just meeting, but this only results in her smile from Tomoya’s same wonder. After walking around in the city, Tomoya heads towards the bread shop he heard of from Nagisa.

Inside, Nagisa’s mother Sanae allows him to try some bread. Tomoya honestly tells her that the bread is a failure, causing her to run out of the room in tears. Tomoya quickly meets Nagisa’s father Akio next, in a quite violent way. However, after finding that he is Nagisa’s friend, Nagisa’s parents invite Tomoya for dinner. Nagisa’s parents start giving Tomoya silly nicknames, before they start enjoying dinner together. Tomoya expresses to Nagisa that her family is amazing, before returning to his drunk father at his own home. This makes Tomoya run out, as he recalls his mother’s death. Suddenly, Tomoya looks to find Nagisa offering to take him to a place where the town’s wishes would be granted.

ED: “Dango Daikazoku (だんご大家族)” by Chata – I love the ED. Who doesn’t like cute dangos? Come on! Apparently it is actually very symbolic, but I’ve never played the game.

Preview: More fun in the sun…or something.

Impression:

A few of you probably know by now how much I despise bishoujo anime, but for some reason, Kyoani/Key works always seem to be an exception. Well, the reason is actually pretty obvious. The first episode of Clannad was exactly what I expected it to be, and I’m already hooked. This probably doesn’t need to be said, but I’ll say it anyways. The animation was beautiful, even with little going on, and the soundtrack was just as good. I’m already getting attached to the characters introduced, especially Nagisa. Her family’s english was so awesome! As a side note, I wonder who will end up with Tomoya in the end? No, I wasn’t being serious. I’m still debating whether I will be blogging this or Shana on Thursdays, and I probably won’t decide completely until all of the new shows have been introduced in my schedule. The chances are that I’ll probably pick it up though. I’ve already decided to watch it, so why not?

This is the most anticipating fall season anime for me, so please someone sub this series asap. Air was great and Kanon[2006] was beyond amazing. I’m not sure Clannad can top Kanon[2006] or not, but I’m sure this still gonna be an awesome series.

Blog it! Key-Ani’s not something to be afraid about. Top quality until the very end…
    Oh, and Tomoyo is loev!

Everyone is going to watch this show. Its another great/legendary anime from Kyoani/Key

kenshin514 > Haha, “someone”. Everyone is subbing this! The quickest and probably most trusted would be Eclipse. By the time of my writing this reply, they’ve already released episode one.

Iori > Yea, I probably will just because I know I will be watching this. Ah well, I guess I’m on a huge bandwagon this time.

Sniper > Yes, that means everyone. xD

Totali > LOL about 2 or 3 fansub groups already released it before you even typed this I think and one of them is Eclipse!

  6. kenshin514 October 6th, 2007 2:18 am

Yeah, I just watched it and it was awesome. Just like what I expected from Kyoani.

Totali: Btw, I’m not sure whether you don’t like typical bishoujo anime story-line or you just don’t like the typical bishoujo anime characters.

kitsune > mmmm actually I’m 100% sure that I wrote up my review the day the raw came out….but yea, like 3 groups subbed it up by the second day.

Hmm…I really need to stick to concise like I’m good at for this show, but it’s kinda hard when it’s so dialog driven.

kenshin514 > mmm…it could be true that I just don’t like the characters. I just don’t like the set up of: guy is put in front of many girls of different personalities and choose one. I liked Shuffle and Otoboku though. I dunno, it’s funny how I like lovcoms but despise bishoujo when they’re kinda similar (but very different by my standards). I just don’t “get” bishoujo I guess. At the same time, I don’t even consider myself an otaku. ;P meh.

I consider kyoani/key works more drama than bishoujo, as they put off a very different feel. That’s probably why I can actually like them so much. (Air/Kanon are at the top of my list)

  8. Orihime October 6th, 2007 9:40 pm

I like this..i hvae never played the game but…hopefully this wont b 2 harem like…i dont really enjoy those…the gil get evil…o crazy..lol

I have to say I love those action scenes. You will only see those foot works in a bad action game. The sub came out really fast.

  10. Totali October 7th, 2007 9:40 pm

Orihime > Kyoani/Key works are much more on the serious side, so something like that won’t happen. Actually, you should probably be ready to cry rather than laugh.

Sniper > Haha, tell me about it. I’m kind of tired of people talking about Kyoani making a fighting anime though. We already have FMP! ;P

  11. stevelikesanime October 8th, 2007 4:36 pm

why do you hate bishoujo anime?
i looked bishoujo up at wiki and some of the animes you like are infact bishoujo like DearS or Love Hina

  12. Totali October 8th, 2007 6:39 pm

Oh please. DearS and Love Hina are no where close to being bishoujo T.T. Meh, I just don’t usually like the “feel” of them. It’s the same reason I don’t “get” how playing eroges is fun. I have nothing against them, they’re just not to my taste. There are always exceptions. I liked Shuffle, for example. ;P

  13. stevelikesanime October 8th, 2007 7:49 pm

well i dont think they’re bishoujo either
ecchi is more like it XDD
well i kinda get your opinion, just asking the reason
    shuffle was pretty amazing.
    Kaede FTW!! =D

  14. Totali October 8th, 2007 10:16 pm

    Love. Comedies.

Heheh, I love Kaede too. Get away from that box cutter! ^.

I finally saw the subs. This was on my list mainly out of curiosity and I wasn’t really that keen on watching this initially since I thought maybe it might be overrated since it got much attention and I thought it was gonna be all drama. I’m glad to find that it had a touch of comedy in it. I was laughing quite a lot, epecially that part when Okazaki met Nagisa’s parents. Haha.

I loved the beginning of this one, changing from hue to color was a really nice touch! Hopefully, it doesn’t have a sad ending or something like that.
