Minami-ke – 01
OP: “Keikenchi Joushouchuu” by Satou Rina, Inoue Marina, Chihara Minori – The song by the seiyu is very poppy and fun. The animation isn’t anything special, but it’s really fitting to the series.
Summary:
The three Minami sisters, Haruka, Chiaki, and Kana, all wake up in their own ways. Chiaki offers to help the eldest sister Haruka with making breakfast, and Kana comes down as the last to wake up as usual. She offers to help as well, but finds that she does not really know how. Later that day, Kana asks for Chiaki’s help with making dinner. Chiaki doesn’t really want to, but she is finally convinced when Kana suggests making hot cakes. This doesn’t go well, as Kana dumps in a lot of fruit into the batter. Haruka walks in on the two afterwards, as Chiaki is trying to convince Kana to drink her own failure.
At the dinner table, the three sisters eat while watching a drama on tv. Haruka changes the channel when a kiss scene appears, and ignores Chiaki’s question afterwards. Haruka explains to Kana that she does not know how to explain these things to Chiaki, so Kana decides to help. Kana begins asking Chiaki what she knows about kissing, but after Kana admits that she has never kissed, she begins chasing her younger sister around the house to try it. Haruka eventually finds the two, but this leads to Chiaki trying to kiss a nervous Haruka. Kana steals Chiaki’s kiss while her guard is down, resulting in a punch to the face.
The next day, Chiaki tries to wake up a lazy Kana. When Kana finally wakes up, she continues the ridiculousness from the previous night. Kana despairs when she finds that her sisters have eaten without her, as Haruka gives her a rice ball to eat on the way to school. In the classroom, Kana expresses her hunger to her friend Keiko, which makes Keiko feel guilty. On the other side of the room, a boy named Fujioka looks at his crush Kana. He decides to finally make a move, placing a love letter in her shoe box. Kana rushes home with this letter, and gives the news to her sisters. After listening to the embarrassing love letter being read by Chiaki, Kana realizes who the popular Fujioka is. This makes her think of her own advantages, but Chiaki begins twisting the letter’s meaning. Now seeing this as a challenge, Kana answers Fujioka with a kick in the leg at school. When Kana returns home, she gives a thumbs up to Chiaki.
ED: “Colorful DAYS” by Satou Rina, Inoue Marina, Chihara Minori – Seems just as colorful as the opening. The animation isn’t anything special, but it feels just right.
Preview: More fun at school.

Haha, this was really funny! Minami-ke was actually low on my blogging list until I got a suggestion from aura-berry to watch it. Needless to say, that tipped my scale a little bit. After watching this, I was very pleasantly surprised. Living in an asian family that rarely talks to each other, I’m not sure how much I could relate. A group of my cousins is full of female siblings though, and I could easily see how these situations could be realistic. I guess that’s what gives us a slice of life. Most of the segments in this episode had me laughing constantly, and I’ve declared it slice of life season for Subculture, so this has gone up in my blogging possibilities by quite a bit. Once again, we’ll see what happens.

Slice of life and Comedies rule! Haha. I’ve been very much anticipating this one and I’m glad to hear good things about it. I can relate quite a bit since our family is chock full of girls. =)
I suppose Chiaki is the one with the odd paintbrush sort of hairstyle sticking up near her bangs? Lol. I like the animation though. It’s easy on the eyes and they look nice and cute. Poor Fujioka, getting misinterpreted.
I think there’s only one more series I’m waiting for which is Rental Magica. I hope that one does not disappoint.
Hell yeah, I have been looking for a good comedy anime for a while (since toward the ending of lovely complex was kinda boring).
Many people think that anime line-up for the fall season is going to be a disaster. What now, people? A lot of great anime already came out and it has been only the first week for the fall season.
Yup, this anime, Kimikiss, and Clannad should be staple in your blog.
(You can just drop Da Capo II and SnS season 2)
Others recommended to be blog
Ef- A Tale of memories
Myself ; yourself
Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun
Whoa that’s already 6 anime and there are two more coming Kodomo No Jikan and Genshiken 2(You can just drop this one too)
so 7 animes if you would just blog 5 out of 7 then need to choose which to be discarded.
Oh man, do blog this. Thought it was something running on a cheap budget from the looks of the official site, but it looks pretty decent in the screenshots. Uguu~ Want to watch…
And wow, more props to the anime. Chihara Minori was a choice here. Chiaki can be my daughter. :3
hazy > Yea, Chiaki is the youngest. I did not cover Rental Magica, because I’m leaving all the magic shows to Aroduc. He’s just better at writing about those shows than I am. From what I hear though, it’s not bad at all.
kenshin514 > Tell me about it! I thought the season was barren, but now I’m looking at like 10+ shows that are good already.
arigatou > Reader suggestions are always taken. Actually, I’ve decided to go ahead and blog all that I can. I’ve been doing so up until now, and I’ll just let a few shows slip if I need more time for school. (Kind of like last season, where I had to go catch back up on Airantou and Umisho). I never intended to blog Da Capo 2, actualy. I still do not plan on blogging Myself; yourself, however. I’d rather not.
aurabolt > Ha, I knew you’d like this one aura-berry.
This might be my Sunday show along with Rental Magica. Though I’m not sure yet since I have yet to check out Prism Ark. xD
I thought it was awesome, too. XD I just realized that we’re liking the same shows this season. Huh. :p
this will sound weird. However… I like the way their mouths are drawn. “yoo gotuh purrdy mouth.” lolz.
Leon > It’ll be a good choice for light fun!
Mintie > Does that mean I have girly taste T.T? Haha, kidding! Yea, that’s awesome. I’m so ready to read your opinions on them!
Rentington > LOL yea a lot of people actually hated those! I was like, what!? That was awesome!
I’m surprised you didn’t think the animation was good. Especially for a slice-of-lifeish show, I thought the production values were excellent.
The mouths are kinda distracting at first, but I guess you get used to it. I really liked Chiaki’s paintbrush hairdo, but I think Kana is the one that really drives the action. It’s surprising that she has multiple I AM BOSS shirts… musta been a sale.
