Moyashimon – 01

OP: “Curriculum (カリキュラム)” by Sarasa Ifu – Wow, can you say awesome? The OP is actually done with 3D cgi, putting the bacteria in a live setting. The song itself is very easy on the ears, and I’ve already taken a liking to it.

Summary:

Two old men talk of a young boy with a mysterious power. This boy, Sawaki Tadayasu, has moved to Tokyo to attend college along with his friend Yuki Kei. At the college, the students’ boring introductory speech is interrupted by a police report. Tadayasu and Kei begin walking around campus soon afterwards, finding the school’s activity to be quite unique. Remembering the teacher they were suppose to visit, Kei quickly asks for directions to find him. Tadayasu and Kei begin walking down a path, but Tadayasu notices several germs generating from the area. When the two reach the end of the path, they find a stake in the ground with the name “Hasegawa” on it. Remembering the police report, the two quickly report this to the authorities. Kei attempts to cover up Tadayasu’s explanation of seeing the germs, when an overpowering presence appears. This professor takes a shovel and digs up the area around the stake, revealing a dead animal inside.

After a slightly disgusting situation, the professor introduces himself as Itsuki Keizo, the professor that the two were looking for. Suddenly, a girl named Hasegawa Haruka appears. This is the woman on the police report, but she confirms that it is alright because of certain circumstances. Tadayasu and Kei are introduced to Haruka as Itsuki’s students as they arrive in his lab. After hearing of his skills, Haruka quickly puts Tadayasu to the test by making him name various forms of bacteria. No matter what explanation he tries to give, Haruka will not accept it. However, Tadayasu is easily able to tell what any kind of germ is, even noticing the problem Haruka has with her foot. Tadayasu notices a dangerous bacteria in the air, and he quickly runs outside with Kei to confirm it. Haruka still refuses to accept Tadayasu’s ability, despite Professor Itsuki’s words inside.

ED: “Rocket” by POLYSICS – and I thought the OP was cool….I actually enjoyed this song a lot, along with the matching 3D animation.

After Episode Short/Preview: We’re given a little segment with different kinds of germs, similar to the GITS skits. It was pretty cute and funny.

Impression:

Haha! This was so cool! I knew this was going to be awesome. It was a lot more hit than miss compared to Mokke. If the OP and ED weren’t enough, the show’s premises is already unique in itself. We’re quickly introduced to a cast of whacky characters, and Tadayasu’s unique power. Haruka was totally hot. I’m not sure if I’d care for that bacteria on her foot though. The show’s art passes my judgement, and the animation is more than decent. I also like the groovy bgm they occasionally played. I had plenty of laughs throughout, as Moyashimon has its own unique kind of humor. As great as I thought this was, I’m not sure if I want to blog it or not. I am also a college student, and it is Slice of Life season for Subculture, but I don’t know if I really want to spend time looking up bacteria names. If I do blog this, I’ll be moving it to a Friday or later blog schedule despite its release on Thursday.

Yeah, Polysics is a good band too if you’re into umm…weird music. I don’t listen to them though.

    Bacteria? In my anime?
It works much better than you’d think.

Of course, I have yet to watch this, so…

aurabolt > lol it’s probably not something I would listen to all the time, but it was really great for an anime ED I guess. ;P

Zeroblade > Oh, I knew it would work~! I dunno, this anime will probably come off on people in really different ways. By the way, fix your site instead of posting here!! xD

LOL yea….but it looks like I won’t be blogging this show. My schedule is just too full already. There are a few other bloggers who are interested though, which is good. I’ll let them take up the task. :)

Sounds interesting! I’ve had my share of bacteria and viruses painstakingly (and forcibly) learned in school so this might be cool to see (yeah, I’m a geek, I know. Haha). Ah, we’ll see if a sub group picks it up. =)
