Minami-ke – 02
Kisama!
Summary:
One of Haruka’s friends, Maki, decides that she will quit school. Finding that her friends do not pay much attention to this statement, Maki begs them to stop her. When Haruka asks her why she wants to quit school, she tells them that it is because she skirts are too short. She believes that it would be troublesome if someone saw her panties. She sees Haruka’s panties while looking for her bread under the table, but Haruka keeps her from saying anything about it in a frightening way. Their other friend shouts out that it would be fine if Maki would just wear bloomers underneath, and they prove this point later in the hallway.
Haruka explains that she had committee work when she arrives home late. After hearing that she was will a boy, Kana hopes that she did not do anything strange. Haruka pulls Kana away while telling Kana not to give Chiaki any strange ideas, but Kana makes things worse as usual. Chiaki attempts to bring the conversation back up when Kana returns to the table, but Kana avoids this by putting the question off to Haruka. At school the next day, a few of Chiaki’s friends invite her over to play. However, Chiaki makes things awkward for them by asking if they plan on doing strange things. When she reaches home, Chiaki expresses that her friends did strange things when she was at her friend’s house. This makes Kana and Haruka panic, as they have not done anything like that yet.
Chiaki’s friend Makoto goes on about the amazing things that have been happening, but Chiaki seems to be the only one in class who does not know what he is talking about. After the students attempt to explain things to her, Chiaki is given an interesting task. With this, she single handedly changes the students’ moods. Later, Chiaki forces Makoto to perform cleaning duties properly. At home, Kana attempts to stop Chiaki from doing homework because it is making her look dumb. Kana makes Chiaki feel guilty for trying to get into a good Middle School, even though Haruka went to the same one as Kana. This results in the girls testing each other. They find that even Haruka has difficulty with the work when she comes home, but the conversation quickly moves on to dinner.
Preview: Fujioka returns to “challenge” Kana?
Impression:
There were a lot of funny parts in this episode, resulting from the various misunderstandings throughout. If Maki’s panty talk wasn’t funny enough, Haruka’s threatening reply was just hilarious. I loved the play on Chiaki’s innocence as well, as Kana and Haruka’s minds were somewhere else when Chiaki mentioned the “strange things”. I like how the girls’ faces get so seriously drawn when they have something ridiculous going on. I’m going to be honest though, I almost fell asleep during the segments in Chiaki’s school. I think the appeal of this show is the three sisters’ interaction, and going away from that just didn’t have the same effect. The introduction of new characters was of course needed, but I didn’t find any of Chiaki’s friends extremely exciting. This show just isn’t having the same effect on me compared to a show like, say, Sketchbook. Again, that could be because I cannot relate as much. It’s also not exactly the same kind of slice of life. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying this at all, though. We’ll see how it goes as the weeks go on. The preview has Kana failing at life, and I think that is pretty funny.

ohh i need to watch it. I love funnyness!!!!
The serious faces remind me a lot of Hayate no Gotoku. Haha. I’ve only seen the 1st episode so far. There were a few boring moments, but I loved it anyway as the humor picks up. Chiaki and Kana mixed together = hilarious disaster. XD
The only problem from the last episode is that the people who did the sub used very bad font, so I had to pause so many times because I couldn’t read. Overall, the last episode was pretty good. Good to hear that this episode is funnier than the last one.
choco > Funnies are the best! Banzai!
hazy > lol Hayate….I wonder when I’ll be picking that show back up….the serious faces are really hard not to laugh at. x)
kenshin514 > I love it when people remind me of subs…I can’t remember the last time I watched one xP….well, I dunno if this was exactly funnier, but it definitely had its moments.
I wish this show wasn’t so boring. I’m not being ironic or anything… I really wish it was a tad bit more interesting.
I didn’t find this episode quite as funny as the first, especially since the sisters seem to be funnier when together. Haruka’s school scene was ok, especially the white bread. Chiaki’s school part was fairly boring (especially the nicknames), aside from the part where Makoto bukk4k3-dusted Chiaki. Fortunately, at least the episode finished strong, as everyone reconvened at home.
Rentington > That’s the thing will slice of life comedies. There’s just no hard hitting comedy….I admit that I found this episode a bit boring at parts as well though.
Kabitzin > Yea, my thoughts exactly. When the sisters are apart it just doesn’t have the same magic. I actually thought Kana’s school parts were pretty funny in the first episode though, so I think the next ep might be promising. I think I like Kana the best out of the three sisters anyways.
I just watched sub for episode 2. The funny part was when all the sisters were togeter and discussed about “doing something funny.” Chiaki’s school part was kinda boring. Haruka’s school part was just like any episode of Today in class 5-2 (since these two series have the same manga’author), which I found to be weird and not that funny.
Haha, Today in class 5-2 was such a great series. It’s a shame that it was so short. One of my fav’s….I didn’t notice the parallels though. :S
explain what “funny things” are… let’s put that aside for now, for dinner, what does your taste bud desire? Curry! Udon! Lol.
I agree, they’re at their funniest when the sisters are together.
