I wish I had a sister like Sora.

Summary:

Sora’s brother Aou expresses that he is hungry while playing video games with his sister, so Sora decides to make something. Aou is disappointed when it is only cups of tea. Aou starts to make somen, so Sora offers to help. She becomes amazed after finding that ban’no negi can do anything, so her brother decides to do things himself. Sora wishes to add some kamaboko to the somen, but because she finds the cuts pretty, she ends up cutting too much for the dish. Aou asks her sister about the festival that she will be attending, but he is interrupted by the sound of a wind chime. Shortly after wondering what Sora’s friends are like, Aou answers the door to Natsumi and Hazuki. He finds that they both have their own unique personalities. Aou brings drinks to the girls while they are playing around inside, and he finds Sora and the others in beautiful yukatas when he opens the door. This atmosphere is broken, however, when Sora almost throws up the somen from earlier. Sora expresses her discomfort with her footwear, so she switches to simple sandals. Aou asks Hazuki if his sister is like this at school, but the girls leave before he can get the answer.

The girls express their happiness upon reaching the festival, before making their way to the festivities. The first event is fish catching, but this results in Sora’s disappointment. In other places, everyone else from the school is enjoying the festival in their own ways. Hazuki becomes drawn to a gambling prize, and she walks away surprisingly happily. Hazuki and Natsumi meet with Aou and his friends, as he wonders where his sister is. When his friends wonder if they should search for her, everyone else expresses at the same time that there is no need to worry about her. Sora finds her teacher and some other students near the shrines, as her friends gather for the fireworks. Gathering in the best place to watch them, the class begins squinting their eyes to see the wonderful fireworks. Aou and his friends find that high schoolers aren’t that smart when they arrive, but Aou sees that Sora is trying to draw the fireworks as they come up. The class tries to guess the kinds of fireworks that will appear as they go up, while Aou notices that his sister does not change no matter where she is.

Impression:

I love Sora. She’s such a likable character, especially if you can relate to her. Her brother, Aou, really helped in development during this episode. It was awesome how he did not have to actually get his answer directly by the end of the festival. I also find it funny how he was more responsible than his older sister. The cooking scenes were great! I realized today that I’ve had kamaboko in hot pots all the time, but I’ve never known what they were called. Haha, shows how much I pay attention. The festival scenes were just wonderful, as expected. As Sora brought her sketchbook, I would have probably just taken my camera. I dunno though. We see all of these anime with the class going to festivals all the time, but does everyone really do it? That’s like saying all kids in the US will celebrate Halloween this month, when I’ve never gone trick or treating in my life. Heh, I guess that’s why this is a slice of life anime. There’s a bit more focus on two other characters as well as Sora next week, as they go on their little excursion. Will it be fun? Of course it will!
