Minami-ke – 04
I want a Play Game4.
Summary:
Chiaki finds a familiar man sitting in front of the Minami apartment, so she lets him inside. Kana is shocked to see him when she arrives home, and finds that he has broken up with his girlfriend. The two girls decide to sit next to him while he despairs, until Haruka returns home. This man happens to be the girls’ uncle, who has arrived for an apparently devastating reason. After hearing about this, Haruka quickly goes off to cook dinner. Wanting to avoid being left with her uncle, Kana also offers to help. However, this doesn’t happen without a bit of interference from Chiaki. Kana fails to help with the cooking as usual, so she is thrown back into the living room. The girls’ uncle expresses how good Haruka’s cooking is while they all eat, but this is interrupted when he gets an important phone call. With this, he quickly leaves the apartment, and Kana warns Chiaki not to let him in again. When Chiaki finds him at their door on another day, she states that she was told not to let him in.
At school, a girl named Riko admires Fujioka from a distance. However, she asks Keiko about his relationship with Kana when she shows up. Keiko denies that Kana has said anything about going out with Fujioka, but Riko becomes suspicious when she hears Kana and Fujioka talking about his visit to her home. Keiko thinks this is fine for friends to do, but Riko believes it is troublesome for someone in junior high. As Riko listens in on Fujioka and Kana’s conversation, she panics at the mention of the curry he ate. The message comes off a bit differently than intended for Riko, as she despairs at their acting like a couple. This continues when Fujioka begins talking about Kana’s sisters, as Riko sees it as already being acquainted with family members. After class, Riko decides that becoming close to Kana might give her a chance. Keiko introduces Riko to Kana, but Kana expresses that she already knows who Riko is. As Kana walks away, Riko grabs her hair. Kana grabs Riko’s hair in return, and they both grab Keiko’s skirt as she tries to get away.
At home later, Kana begins a challenge over pudding with Chiaki. Because it is raining, the loser would have to go the convenience store to buy it. Kana choses a love sim game, which hasn’t even been opened yet. As the two girls start playing, they find that the game isn’t exactly what they’ve expected. Kana and Chiaki continue to do poorly in the game, and Haruka finds them very focused on it when she arrives home.
At school, the girls in gym class suggest to Haruka that she join the volleyball team since she is so good. However, Haruka denies because of her family at home. Meanwhile, a girl named Hayami and a boy named Hosaka plot to have Haruka join the volleyball team. Haruka’s friends discuss Hosaka during their lunch break, but they are interrupted when Hosaka himself shows up in the room. Maki finds that he did not overhear their conversation, so she starts to cover herself by complimenting his skills. This results in his glorifying of himself, apparently a normal thing. When Hosaka explains why he wants Haruka for the volleyball team, Maki counters by saying that Haruka is busy raising children. This puts Hosaka in an overwhelmed state, as he does not even notice Haruka performing his fantasy right before him.
Hosaka approaches Maki and her friend during practice, and asks how many kids live with Haruka. When the girls reply that there are two, he believes that this makes perfect sense. The two girls try to go back to practice, but Hosaka goes on to talk about how things would turn out if he could not get along with the kids. This leads to a disturbing fantasy, as the two girls observe how ridiculous he looks. At the Minami household, Kana and Chiaki welcome home their beloved sister.
Preview: It’s hot. Let’s go to the beach!
Impression:
Holy crap, this episode was funny on so many levels. I am desperately trying to hold back my laughs right now so that I don’t wake my sleeping room mate. The introduction of the Minami girls’ uncle in the beginning of the episode was great. He really represented a deprived human being, and it was hilarious to see Kana warning Chiaki not to let him in the apartment. Speaking of that early segment, what was up with the half naked Chiaki? Add that with Kana’s pants being pulled down, and we’ve got some fanservice that I didn’t even expect to see coming from this show. The second segment only increased in hilarity, with Riko entering the hardly existent love triangle. I have no idea what was up with her skirt grabbing, but it was extremely funny. I also loved the various game parodies from Kana and Chiaki’s competition. The BAD END shots had me grabbing my sides. Someone play that Mario theme for me!
I found the introduction to pretty boy Hosaka absolutely genius. That guy is way too over the top, and his seiyu being the one who played Kai from Seto no Hanayome just adds to the hilarity factor. What the heck was up with his sweat wiping fantasies? Did he say three liters of sweat!? Hahaha!! Loli Kana and lolier Chiaki were pretty awesome no doubt, but I still don’t understand milf or onesan appeal. Sorry, Haruka fans! Speaking of characters, can anyone tell me the name of the purple haired girl who is always with Haruka and Maki? I swear they haven’t even said her name once so far, and it’s really killing me while writing summaries. Oh man….”Call me Papa”. I’m dying right now.

Haruka’s other friend’s name is Atsuko or something like that.
I’m not surprise that there are going to have some of fanservice in this show. The mangaka of this show is the same on as “Today in class 5-2,” and there are quite a few of fanservices coming from that show. Am I the only one who didn’t enjoy last episode that much? All the three episodes so far, I like the first one the most. I hope this one will be better. Otherwise, eventually, this show will drop from top three of my favorite anime of this season.
Actually, in the manga, during the uncle segment, Chiaki’s and Kana’s panties are fully visible; it seems they are toning down the content in the anime.
But then again, the panty shots in the manga are quite… odd; they are not too blatant and only last for a short panel. I’m not sure what to make of them.
And yes, this is a great episode.
Watched the episode…
It was… ridiculous…
And GREAT !! d(’_'d)
Lana > Thanks!! I think that’s exactly right. You just saved me a headache that I’ve been having for weeks. xD
kenshin514 > Yea, I keep forgetting that! I guess the fanservice does make sense if I think about it that way, but I still don’t see this anywhere close to being a fanservice based show. Nah, you weren’t the only one, I’m sure. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by this episode. It was MUCH funnier…hilarious even.
Nemo_N > Oh wow, haha. I guess I’m just underestimating this show a bit. xD
Cairan > Ridiculous usually EQUALS great for me xDD.
Three editions of Haruka fantasies ~Lol. Call me Papa! xD
Oh, my tummy hurts from laughing too much. Hosaka somehow reminds me of Tamaki from Ouran. Haha. I was so amused by Tamaki so I think Hosaka is gonna be real funny trying to be the Papa for Haruka’s “kids”
Jumping giant faced kuma-neko, batman!
This shows characters are just too much, I can´t find anything that i don´t find appealing about them on some level.
*in reverse order*
They really managed to pull off the pretty boy intro without making him look like too much of an idiot or too much of a “perfect human” like a lot of shows tend to make the pretty guys look.
Onee-sama moe is just like any other moe, you can´t explain it, you have to feel it.
And the part about the semi-nude Tchiaki is to make the viewer feel like they are a part of the “minami famirie”
as to make us comfortable around them and basically shoot down any thoughts of service towards the girls, which will ultimatley lead to a much better show in my opinion. although the thought of Tchiaki-chin sitting in your lap makes the child in me scream :”MOOOOOOOEEEE DESU!”
xD
That Battle of Love video game was hilarious! I think episodes 4 and 5 showed that Kana and Haruka can be funny on their own. The Keiko skirt pulling was pretty sweet. I guess Chiaki’s more of a support character, since the tsukkomi-type works better when someone like Kana is around.
Hosaka wasn’t too bad either, especially the part where he mentioned that he sweat 3 Liters like it was something to be proud of.
hazy > LOL Hosaka is way more over the top than Tamaki. Wow, Ouran….those were good times.
Dularc > That makes a lot of sense. I guess the appeal of this show is “being a part of” the Minami family. Heh, I don’t understand most moe in general xD.
Kabitzin > lmao 3 liters……BAD END was freaking amazing.
…”with Riko entering the hardly existent love triangle”. LOL
Will Kana fight for her man?
hey umm where and when is the part where her pants get pulled down?? i miss it everytinme i watch the ep =(
