Ninomiya-kun – 05

A Reika in a bathing suit is fine too.

Summary:

Reika finds Mayu’s doujin hidden behind a shelf while cleaning. She expresses her distaste with such a thing, but soon takes it back out to look through it. Later at a convention, she has started selling her own doujin with the help of Mitsuru. Ninomiya wonders what is going on when he finds himself on an island with the girls, so Ryoko explains that they are on the Minami island for a vacation. He cannot readily accept this, but Mayu asks him to ride on a boat with her. Mayu gets into a typical touchy situation with Ninomiya during the ride, so she begins apologizing. Ninomiya tells her not to worry about things like that, since they have come all the way out to relax. Mayu then asks if Ninomiya will play with her, and he agrees. Reika watches the two from afar as usual, as Mitsuru suggests a plan.

Ninomiya is waken from his typical dream by Mayu in a bathing suit, as she asks for him to put lotion on her back. He prepares to do so, but he is interrupted by Reika’s call. Reika is in the forest with a very skimpy bathing suit on, and she has Ninomiya lotion her back for her. This doesn’t go exactly as planned, so Reika continues to interrupt May and Ninomiya throughout the day. Seeing that things do not go well, Reika runs away. When Mitsuru appears to comfort her, they begin discussing the night’s stars and the full moon. Elsewhere, a woman commands a vessel towards Ninomiya’s location. Ninomiya finds Mayu watching the sunset outside, as she expresses the wonderful things that she has experienced throughout the day. Mayu readily agrees to Ninomiya’s offer to watch the stars with him that night, but this displeases Reika who has been watching from afar.

Ninomiya finds that his sister and Mikihiko have left the island, as the remaining group prepares to eat dinner. When he finds that Reika is missing, he sets out to find her. However, this isn’t before Mitsuru questions his actions. Mitsuru suggests that Ninomiya doesn’t realize Reika’s feelings as he sets off, and Mayu follows. As Reika wanders around the island by herself, she hears a voice inside of her questioning her true intentions. Reika despairs that she would not be able to keep her promise, even though Ninomiya does not remember what happened in the past. Ninomiya finally finds Reika, and notices that she is injured. He offers his back for her to ride, but Reika’s other side takes this chance to take over.

This other Reika explains that she knows everything about Ninomiya and the promise he made with her in the past. Ninomiya realizes that Reika must be a succubus like Mayu, as Reika forces Ninomiya to advance on her. Her time runs out before he can kiss her, however, and she passes out. Finding her in a dire state, Ninomiya plans to offer his life force to help her. As he kisses her, Mayu witnesses from a distance. A team of black suited people surround Reika and Ninomiya soon afterwards, as they also hold Mayu captured.

Preview: The revealing of the white haired girl?

Impression:

Woah! Reika is hot! Just to let everyone know, I am a total sucker for dramatic personality changes and dual personalities. I was about to flame the poor writing and animation of this episode again, but the ending completely saved that. I usually like the dumb main female leads, but now I’m all for Reika. Wow, that was so awesome. Yea, I say that I don’t watch anime for fanservice, but I guess I have to call that “visual” fanservice. Mental fanservice is a very different story. Haha, does that even make sense? Probably not, since I am busy obsessing over Reika’s awesomeness right now. I’m actually really surprised that she is a succubus. Before the show started, I thought the biggest twist was going to be her being Ninomiya’s maid. Mitsuru also seems to have another side of himself, but I could care less about that guy. It’s funny how Reika cannot remember what happened with her other self. I’m definitely getting Mahoraba vibes right now. Well, besides Reika, this episode was really mediocre as usual. Ryoko and Mikihiko are still far from being likable, and Ninomiya’s typical denseness is pretty annoying. The woman commanding the submarine in this episode is obviously the girl being shown in the ED, so next week should be somewhat fun.

Yes! Reika = win. I’m glad you’ve joined the Tsundere team!

Mitsuru + Bunnygirl costume = NO

Reika’s dual personalities are EXACTLY like Sia’s from Shuffle! Normal, romantically shy side, and the almost evil, seductive side that takes over. In fact, it’s the same pretty much up to the point of the childhood friendships…

Reika is definitely tasty and I’m a certified Tsundere lover. The dual personality thing does throw a nice twist that was kind of out of nowhere, I’m looking forward to an assertive Reika. Maybe she can knock the indecisiveness out of Ninomiya. His nice guy image was ok to set up the show, but if he continues like this he’s just going to be filed in the massive “Indecisive Male Harem Lead With No Interesting Qualities.”

The difference is really that Reika is not mean to Ninomiya, which makes her a lot more redeemable compared to a lot of characters with similar character profiles.

Really, I’m curious about the white-haired girl, too. I’m looking forward to maybe having ONE female character who isn’t insanely in love with Ninomiya. But, from the sound of her few lines in this episode, I somehow think she’ll be obsessive, too… just in maybe a creepier way, and probably for more utilitarian reasons. Like, there is something she needs him for, probably related to vampiric power. Well, that’s my guess, anyway.

Haha after this episode, Reika is win in my book. For some reason, I cannot stand Mayu though…

    See? :3

Reika is cute! An a succubus like Ren! The similarities are so… there! It’s like she’s a combination of kuroi and shiroi Ren. All she needs now is nekomimi!

Rentington > Hey, nobody said I joined the tsundere team! I’m just leaning towards Reika in this show….mainly for the psycho personality change…….moooeeeee~~ You’re definitely right about Reika being unique compared to similar character types. I mean, how do you get a tsuntsun, oujosama, maid, and dual personality in one character? Awesome.

Zakarum > Heck yea! There are actually a lot of shows where I’ve seen this kind of thing happen…..Mahoraba was just the example I went to at the top of my head. lol Mitsuru in a bunny suit…..yea I threw up in my mouth a little….(jk)

Calawain > Yea….and he has been extremely generic throughout the series so far…it’s pretty worthless how all these girls are after him…typical harem. I’m interested in seeing more of Reika’s SUPA TSUNTSUN MODE-O

moshi > OH GOD REIKA IS HOT

Halcyon > Eh, I still don’t have a big problem with Mayu, but I definitely see why everyone else wouldn’t like her that much…she is really dumb. xD

Di Gi Kazune > Ok, so I saw the light. lmao I still think you’re the only one drawing these Tsukihime parallels. I am waiting for the nekomimi too….just so I can laugh for hours afterwards.

I like this show quite abit and irritates me that I keep forgetting to comment on this blog about it.

Well I don’t know if I fully assumed Reika was a succubus (she ahd to be something similar) but the way it’s been revealed is cool. SPLIT PERSONALITY FACTOR FOR THE WIN.

I love this anime’s opening shorts (this one being Reika as the yaoi artist which was hilarious)

and like everyone else here I’m also interested in the white haired girl.

“I mean, how do you get a tsuntsun, oujosama, maid, and dual personality in one character”
I bet the author was thinking “How much moe can we put into one character”…..yeah I also love Reika.

    Thanks for blogging this show.
