Shakugan no Shana 2 – 05

I’d eat Wilhelmina’s cup ramen.

Summary:

During a training session with Wilhelmina, Yuuji is surprised to find that he has no injuries. Wilhelmina credits this to his power of existence. Before she leaves, Yuuji asks about Shana. However, Wilhelmina only tells Yuuji that he will see her at school. When Wilhelmina reaches home, she is only able to prepare cup ramen for herself and Shana. Deep in thought about Yuuji, Shana heads to the bath first. Wilhelmina scolds Shana’s habits, so she lashes back out at her. However, this only ends with Wilhelmina walking away in silence. Wilhelmina makes a meeting with Yuuji’s mother in the morning, before Yuuji heads off to pick up Konoe. Yuuji finds that Konoe is not up yet when he arrives at her house, so he accompanies her caretaker through the house. Yuuji and Konoe share some small talk about her house and Yuuji’s friends on the way to school, but they run into an angry Shana. Yuuji almost chases after her, but Konoe stops him.

At school, Konoe insists that she is still not ok on her own before class starts. When the teacher comes in, he relieves Kazumi of her duties to help Konoe. Because Matake lives closer to Konoe, she takes her place. Elsewhere, Wilhelmina shops for food. During the lunch break, Shana and Kazumi stand on the school rooftop in silence. Yuuji is asked about his distance between the two girls, but noticing that he is still getting lunches from them, Matake guesses that they aren’t fighting. Hayato confronts Yuuji about this closeness to Konoe afterwards, though Yuuji does not see what he is doing wrong. While walking through town, Wilhelmina meets with Yuuji’s mother. Wilhelmina wonders what kind of food would satisfy a person while they walk together, so Yuuji’s mother invites her to the house.

After school ends, Eita asks Matake to go home with himself and Keisaku. She has to decline, however, as she is going with Yuuji and Konoe. In the classroom, both Shana and Kazumi still refuse to leave. As they see Yuuji walking home with other girls, they both express the painful feelings they have. As Margery continues to drink at Keisaku’s home, she finds that Eita has not come back yet. As Yuuji and Matake return from dropping Konoe off, they find that Eita has been waiting for them. Eita and Matake both walk home together afterwards, both with a bit of nervousness. When Shana returns home, she finds the flat full of smoke. She rushes in to see if Wilhelmina is ok, but finds that she is only cooking a meal. The result is as bad as ever, but Wilhelmina expresses her hope that Shana will feel better after eating it. Shana admits the bitter taste of the meal, but claims that it is good because Wilhelmina prepared it. At home, Yuuji thinks to himself that he will try to talk to Shana properly the next day.

Preview: Don’t tell me Margery is joining the harem too!!

Impression:

So, I figured it out. Shakugan no Shana is trying to put all of the love comedies out of business by shifting its genre!!! I have to admit, they almost fooled me, because this episode was hilarious! I love Wilhelmina. She has been a great source of hilarity since season one. I can’t believe they actually had her holding a stopwatch during the eyecatch. Her picking out ramen was just too funny. I also loved how she called Yuuji’s mom “Oku-sama”, and the scenes in the market totally gave me DearS vibes. The mini melon bread that Shana prepared for Yuuji did too though. I still can’t get over Shana and Kazumi’s emo fits. It looked like they were going to cut themselves when they saw that Matake had joined Yuuji’s harem. Speaking of Matake, it was pretty sweet to see her with Eita at the end of the episode. I swear they’ve changed this show into a pure romance anime. I can’t wait for next week’s development. At this point, I am perfectly fine with the chance to parody Shana episodes. By the way, the OP/ED singles are out, and I have been listening to them quite a bit!

I´m so disappointed in this show, i started watching it because i thought that the production values from the first seasons first few eps were top notch. The story was incredible in the first arc of the first season and the later episodes(before Wilhelmina came along) were mediocre and i was hoping it would get better… They didńt!
This season, I´m only watching this for the OP.

Man I thought this was a really funny episode, you’ll grow to like it if you don’t already.

Dularc > Yea….the best part about this show right now is the OP/ED for real….the only actual entertainment I’m getting out of the actual episodes is making fun of it. XD….I dunno…I think it’ll get better. I’m just tired of Konoe.

moshi > Yea this episode was hilarious. Wilhelmina’s cabbage was ridiculous. xD

Di Gi Kazune > OMG you keep contradicting yourself by posting those kinds of messages here! xD Don’t worry, we’re all Ex Fan fans here!!

Playing Prism Ark has been taking priority over this show… Man I love Karin. I actually went to run laps after that part in the game! GOD IS JUSTICE!

Haha, Prism Ark. I actually plan to marathon that anime after it’s airing…but for now, all I know is that Aroduc is quite fond of it.

Fel is cute. Even if she isn’t technically a loli. Only because she has pointy mimi and a huge staff. :3

  9. Zakarum November 7th, 2007 8:05 am

The loli of Prism Ark is most definitely the appropriately named Litte. She’s supposed to be a teacher yet… she… looks like she’s 12, and cries a lot… ugh.

But the game is LOADS better than the anime, which is why I dumped the anime. It takes a bit more time because I’ve always sucked at kanji, but characters are voice acted so it is not a huge problem. Oh but it’s long as hell.

Yes Fel is cute, but she is also kinda annoying and her costume is over the top. I’ll take Karin any day :D She’s like Touka from Utawarerumono except without the funky ears! And she freaking writes Haiku.

Gah, I have no plans to play the game anytime soon….can’t get into them that easily (plus I have to boot up my Windows lol…meh). Playing those games is apparently the easiest way to learn kanji though, which is what I’m studying right now. Gah~~ why does the written language so much more work to learn than the spoken~~~!? xD

  11. Zakarum November 7th, 2007 6:49 pm

It’s so true. You don’t have to deal with kanji when speaking… Then again spoken words have different pronunciations to determine the meaning (because so many damn words in Japanese are the same thing with different emphasis on different parts). As my second primary language, I’m a little ashamed I have to look up some of the kanji…

But hey, you have an excuse to play! I’ve noticed my kanji vocabulary has increased by playing these games already!

  12. Totali November 7th, 2007 10:18 pm

Actually I would have thought that listening to the speech while reading the kanji would have been the way to do it….haha, well, I’m just studying from the books right now. I’m fairly happy with the amount of Japanese I know now, but I am learning more every day. Maybe I really do need to start playing these games when I have time! Eh, otakuism. xD

I swear that School Days has totally ruined me, because I keep seeing School Days bad ending situations popping up everywhere in Shakugan no Shana. Poor friendless Kazumi is probably this close to snapping right now…

  14. Zakarum November 8th, 2007 4:39 am

Haha if you ever saw the Shanatan and Hecatetan omake episodes, you would see Kazumi’s very evil scary side! >:E
I am a bit tired of seeing the girls all emo… it would be nice if they actually did something.

Yeah I do look at the kanji while the characters speak. But since Hayaweh and the narration are not voiced, I sometimes just use the Windows JP IME Pad to manually draw kanjis into Notepad, to get the reading. So much faster than using a dictionary, and it works so amazingly well that I really have to thank Microsoft for once…

I thought the love battles were fun and funny. I like that girl who looks like Hecate-tan. She’s awesome. I need more of this fix. It’s not smart, but woah, it’s engrossing. :p

  16. Totali November 8th, 2007 2:13 pm

Kabitzin > I think everyone feels that way….as soon as a relationship goes off the path somewhere, it’s instantly time for that axe…I think it would be hilarious if Kazumi lost it.

Zakarum > I love how everyone using Windows hardly ever has anything good to say about it….but they all still use it. xD

Michael > Konoe is……fun to make fun of…. basically xD.

I like Windows XP in it’s current state. It’s almost bug free with all the updates, my computer very rarely crashes. I’m not really THANKFUL to Microsoft, more like it’s what I expect from one of the largest corporations in the world. Compatibility is never an issue, and I like how I can quickly switch from Japanese and English on a whim, although I usually run it in Japanese anyway. I just found myself impressed with the IME Pad that so easily recognizes sloppily drawn kanji that may not even look like the original (doing it in a hurry with wireless mouse=messy!). It’s almost like it’s reading my mind O.o

  18. Totali November 8th, 2007 11:27 pm

I’m not going anywhere close to Vista since it’s pointless without having the DirectX10 card. Besides, I’m only running XP on my Mac to play games and stuff. That sounds pretty cool with the Japanese character recognition though. :3

  19. Zakarum November 9th, 2007 12:22 am

I have a DX10 card and I’m STILL not going near Vista. XP is much more stable right now and runs very efficiently in my opinion, with far fewer compatibility issues. The only game that looks significantly better in DX10 is Crysis anyway, and even then I really could care less about DX10.

By the way, WTB Ninomiya-kun episode 6 raw… It annoys me that Chinese subbed episodes are out before the raw! Where are they getting it?? Plus it’s in crappy rmvb format.
