Kimikiss pure rouge – 05

Dude…you made my car crash.

Summary:

When they were children, Kouichi and Kazuki were amazed at what Mao could do on a swing set. In the present time, Mao meets with Eiji for their date. Mao wonders where they are going when she follows Eiji, but he only replies by saying that she would find out. Eiji leads Mao underground, where she is surprised to find that they have arrived at a Jazz live. Mao is unable to send her words to Eiji in the noise, but she notices how he is absorbing the music. The two share some small talk about the live afterwards, and Mao finds that she does share some of the same tastes in music as Eiji. Mao expresses how great of a musician Eiji already is, but this only results in his turning away.

While watching a drama at home, Kazuki is still thinking about the words Asuka gave to him. His thoughts are interrupted by Nana’s intrusion, as she guesses that he and Asuka are going out. Kazuki denies, but when he prepares to tell Nana that it has nothing to do with her, he is only reminded of Eriko’s same use of words. That night, Kouichi guesses if Mao had gone on a date during the day. She avoids the question by asking about Kouichi’s progress with Yumi, as they continue to game throughout the night. In the past, Mao had encouraged Kouichi and Kazuki to do their best with jumping off of the swing set.

Mao wonders how Kazuki is doing when she notices the face he is making in the morning, but he assures her that it is nothing. When Mao sees Eiji at school, she thanks him for the previous day. Akira pesters Kouichi about the movie script in the classroom, which makes Kouichi shift his look to Yumi. During their previous meeting, Kouichi and Yumi decided that they would have to work on a love story. When Kazuki looks in Asuka’s direction, she only gives him a disappointing face.

Finding out the basis of Kouichi’s story, Akira begins describing the different approaches of love to him in the lunch room. Upon seeing Eriko at a table, Kouichi expresses how rare it is for her to be there. Akira begins teasing Kazuki about a chance for him, but this only makes him storm out after expressing that this isn’t his intention. Mao finds Kazuki on the school rooftop, and she attempts to console him. Finally able to talk, Kazuki asks Mao if she remembers the time that she jumped from the swing set. Mao cannot remember the exact event, but Kazuki expresses how amazing she was. Kazuki brings up that even Kouichi was able to fly, but he is unsure of himself. As this triggers her memory, Mao reveals that Kazuki had actually jumped the furthest. She wonders what he would be bringing this up for, but she looks up only to see a serious look on Kazuki’s face.

During english class, the teacher finds that Eiji has not been paying attention. He guesses that Eiji has been thinking about music again, and implies the differences between dreams and reality to him. Akira finds that Kouichi has things to do when he asks to accompany him, and surprisingly discovers that Kazuki is in a similar situation. Before he leaves for work, Mao asks Eiji to let her listen to his performance as promised. Kouichi meets Yumi in the library for the script planning, but she reveals love stories to him that all have disastrous endings. Kazuki meets Eriko with his newfound courage, and he requests to resume the experiment.

Preview: It looks like a Mao and Eiji episode to me! Is that an iPod??

Impression:

Man, I’ve been feeling like a romance anime all week. It’s a good thing that I decided to blog Kimikiss this season! This was a great episode, with plenty of development throughout all the characters. I’m really loving Mao and Eiji’s story, and their date was totally giving me Paradise Kiss vibes when they went to the underground live. I also thought of Nodame Cantabile instantly when I saw the 3D animated instruments. I shared a bit of the angry feelings Kai had when the engrish teacher insulted his dreams, but I think Mao will definitely be playing his support role. They’re definitely my favorite set up right now, but the parallels with the swing set in the past and future were really cool too.

This is pretty obvious, but the episode titles all symbolize the developments that happen in each episode. I loved how Kazuki took his friends’ encouraging words from the past to speak to Eriko. Even if Mao and Eiji are my favorite couple, Eriko probably still remains as my favorite girl. She just has that awesome cool atmosphere about her. It’s easy to see the love triangle that Asuka is a part of though, so I’m still not sure how everything will work out yet. It seems like the show is moving in an obvious direction, but with two seasons planned, they could easily throw a curve ball at us. On another note, I actually don’t mind Nana and Narumi as much as I did before. Nana’s squealing like a school girl during the cheesy drama was really funny. I’m also not sure if I should take Yumi’s love disaster novels as a prelude or a joke. The next episode preview is all over Mao and Eiji, so I’m ready to shout in joy again next week.

For some reason, I don’t have any favorite character or couple. May be that’s a good thing because this way I don’t have to concentrate into just one character or one couple at a time. At this rate, it makes more sense that this series should be 24 episodes instead of 12. The plot is still little slow. The love-triangle and drama of each couple is not that obvious yet. Oh well, I still really like this story a lot. Hope the sub come out soon.

I sense foreshadowing in Yumi’s love stories with disastrous endings. Then again, it may be a foreshadowing of a twist in the foreshadowing of a disastrous love ending (or endings) at the end of the series. Sorry if I am not making much sense…or am I? Anyway, nice summary!

Ohoho. From that screencap, I think Eiji has the new iPod Nano! I’m envious. I like him and Mao too.

I’m kinda rooting for Kazuki and Asuka, although I think Eriko is cool. I guess because I think Asuka will be ignored since Kazuki is obviously going for Eriko. I relfexively go for the underdogs.

The revelation about Yuumi scared me a little… I just hope this series won’t go down the dark path o__o

as for Kai and Mao… I’m starting to see ripples in their relationship because of some music language barrier. I’m thinking it’s a foreshadowing on the would-be twist in this pairing as well.

kenshin514 > I dunno, character attachment can have its ups and downs. It might be true that you can see a broader picture if you don’t focus on one couple though. And yea, I think it’s pretty much confirmed that this show will go on for two seasons. The pacing is just too slow for a 12 episode series.

Halcyon > I think I get what you’re saying…..lol! I dunno, I was still half seeing the stories as a joke, and half seeing them as a disaster in the making. It kind of makes me worry! xD Mmm, thanks for actually enjoying the summary. ;P

hazy > Hahaha, that thing is sooo an iPod! Eh, Kazuki and Asuka is a likely pairing I think. There will definitely be some drama later on. I like Eriko’s character, but I’m not too sure about her being paired with Kazuki. She just seems like too much of a loner.

usagijen > Yea, I do see some complications between Eiji and Mao coming up, but I think it’s something that will be overcome. I really don’t want to see Mao getting anywhere close to Kouichi or Kazuki….

I want more focus on Eriko. She seems to be the most inwardly struggling girl there is. Let us resume the experiment, please.

Oh, and PLEASE GET RID OF THE DAMN FROGS.

  7. Totali November 8th, 2007 2:09 pm

Oh yes, Eriko is love. The frogs wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t plastered on the screen every five seconds! Wah~! I think Nana an Narumi are kind of funny, but it annoys me how much unneeded screen time they are getting.
