Clannad – 07
What’s cuter, dango or starfish?
Summary:
Ibuki Koko brings up the rumors about Fuuko going around school, but states that there is no way that could be possible. She expresses her wish for Fuuko to have friends, even if it was only in a dream. When she asks if Tomoya and Nagisa would become friends with her, Fuuko grabs on to a tearing Nagisa’s hand. Tomoya and Nagisa promise that they would become Fuuko’s friend, and Tomoya goes on to request that Koko marry her boyfriend. He assures her that Fuuko would be happy, and Nagisa helps along with him to express Fuuko’s feelings to her. With this, Koko suggests that she will obtain happiness. Fuuko reveals that she did not know that her sister was unsure about her marriage, as she continues her campaign. Tomoya finally admits that he was wrong for not believing Fuuko’s situation, as Nagisa cries for Fuuko. Finding that they have not approached her yet, Tomoya takes Fuuko to Kotomi. After discovering how much she knows about animals, Fuuko successfully gives a starfish to her. Tomoya and Fuuko get into a word argument afterwards, and Youhei appears between them. After he angers Fuuko, she has her fan club take him away.
Tomoya and Nagisa send Fuuko home early again after school, as they visit Koko. She assures them that she still plans to marry Yusuke, but they are having trouble finding a location to have the marriage. She expresses that she would like to have it at the school, so that she can be surrounded by her fellow students and teachers. Tomoya asks what kind of person Fuuko was before her accident, so Koko begins to reveal her past. During trips to the beach and watching her on the way to school, Koko realized that Fuuko was someone who did not interact with others easily. Koko could not even interact with Fuuko during the summer, as she was always busy. At the start of the new year, however, the lonely Fuuko promised to make new friends. Her accident happened soon after. Koko finds it mysterious that Tomoya and Nagisa are so concerned about Fuuko, even though they have no even met her before, so Tomoya suggests that they may have similarities to her.
Again at school, Tomoya and Nagisa guess that the current Fuuko only has the same memories from before the accident. During a meeting later, it is brought up that people may not realize that what Fuuko is handing out is a starfish. Fuuko suggests many different ways of informing the public, but they are all ridiculous. When it is suggested that something cuter should be distributed, Nagisa instantly thinks of the Dango Daikazoku. Fuuko and Nagisa get into an argument about starfish or dango being cuter, but they eventually agree on the two being even. Using Fuuko’s interest in poking starfish to his advantage afterwards, Tomoya puts Youhei through damage. Tomoya and Nagisa visit an old teacher’s room afterwards, with requests to have Koko’s wedding at the school. The teacher suggests that he will take actions towards this, assuring the two that things would go well.
Tomoya and Nagisa happily tell this to Koko at her home, and she responds by revealing something that she must tell them. Fuuko’s condition has worsened, and the doctors do not believe that she will be able to wake up. After getting married, Koko has planned to make dramatic changes in her life to be closer to her. Tomoya wonders if Fuuko had already known about this, and if her actions were triggered because of it. Youhei reveals even more troubling information to Tomoya when they meet later, as students had stopped being able to see Fuuko at school. Youhei then reveals that he knows about Fuuko’s accident, and that there is no person named Isogai. He asks what Fuuko is, but Tomoya can only remained silently distressed.
Preview: Dang, this is a long arc.
Impression:
The conclusion of this arc is coming sooner and sooner, and the build up has me expecting lots of tears. It was painful to see that Koko could not acknowledge Fuuko at all, especially after her lonely past was revealed. It was like Fuuko had a different personality, even though her current self seems to be an extension of what she wanted to change. Youhei made things even worse by revealing that students have stopped recognizing Fuuko, but he earned some respect from me for supporting her. I am so ready to see more development in the next episode. I really hope there will be some kind of hope, because I am not ready for an all out tearful ending.
The drama is coming just around the corner, but this episode was still as entertaining as ever. Fuuko’s usual personality points were great, and I laughed really hard at her starfish poking. She can’t even whistle! The dango daikazoku vs. starfish scene was just as hilarious, and it has me expecting certain parody. It also reminds me that we need more people for the starfish alliance. Join the starfish alliance with me at Anime Arimasu! (Yes, that means you must comment on Shirukii’s Clannad posts. Do it!) What? I’m very fair! Anyways, I’m not sure what exactly to expect from the next episode, but it does seem like this arc will be coming to a close soon. Stay strong Fuuko!

No !!! Don’t cry, Nagisa. You make me cried too. Wow, that was very emotional episode and yet they still manage to add some humour to balance it out. Good job, Kyoani. I know it will be painful for you that Fuu-chan arc may be over soon, right Totali? If make you feel any better, I already post at anime arimasu and join your starfish alliance. Starfish FTW. Actually, based on this episode, someone probably gonna add dango alliance as well. lol
Epic crying is made of win. So is the background music for this show.
Dango > Starfish. Just saying.
haha, Dango > Star fish indeed!
I wonder whose arc they will cover next after Fuuko? I do hope that the ending for Fuuko’s arc will not be too much of a tear-jerker though, especially when I have been growing increasingly attached to her character.
indeed, dangos >> friggin stars.
Remember, a vote for starfish is a vote for moetards, and we need to put (insert country here) on the right track. I approve this message.
I don’t like dango OR starfish. hah.
=O Campaigning for the starfish alliance via posting, oh ho, how cunning. Well, two can play at that game XD
And looks like dangos are rallying more support than anything else, lol.
Can’t wait for the drama though, haven’t had a breakdown caused by anime since the year I watched AIR/Saikano.
kenshin514 > Starfish Alliance REPRESENT! Bring on the dango alliance, we can take em!
Mirrinus > No……just……no.
Runningkid > Traitor! I’m not your friend nemore.
Halcyon > I think I will shed tears by the end of the next episode…..Fuuko!!! ;(
ItAintEazy > No, it’s a vote for Fuuko, like…the cutest thing ever!! That message is soooo not Totali approved.
Zakarum > Neutrality? What is this, Canada!? You should sign up for the starfish alliance anyways…..just saying. *looks away unsuspiciously*
Shirukii > We’ll see about that! The Starfish Alliance will prevail, FAIR and
squarestar shaped! Also, woot fellow Air bawler….those were good times.I’m not taking a stance of neutrality (don’t… even… mention… Canada…). I’m saying I’m opposing both.
Actually I’d like to lobby for the creation of a third party, the Warthogs. Because of Kyou’s pet warthog.
I’m pretty sure this will result in the draining of votes from the Democratic party causing the Republicans to win the election. No hard feelings though, right Kerry? It was all politics!
Well, it’s great to see Youhei being something other than comedic fodder, and from the looks of it, this arc is going to be over pretty soon. Hopefully, this means we get to see more of the Fuyubashi twin. They are sorely lacking in screentime since episode 3.
And Dango alliance FTW!!!
I’m glad I always had my kleenex ready at hand. =D
I hope Fuuko in the hospital would wake up instead and realize how much she is loved… what? I prefer happy endings.
I always thought it was a starfish… It’s a sign! I’m with the starfish alliance then. =)
Zakarum > lol! I’m actually very surprised that the warthogs alliance hasn’t been formed yet…..everyone loves botan @_@
Orange-kun > pew pew pew ima shooting my lazers at u ….but yea, I’m pretty sure the next episode will be the last for Fuuko as well……well, we can’t be here forever right? :3
hazy > Since Fuuko is an “Ayu ripoff”, maybe she will wake up at the end of the series…also, Starfish Alliance FTW
Oh dear. No one seems to have gotten my political joke. Either that or ignored it. I’m deeply concerned about the future of America.
Making a political joke in the middle of an anime blog is like…..well, you get the picture.
