Bamboo Blade – 10

Banzai~! Banzai~! Banzai~!

Summary:

Tamaki takes note of the girl who enters the shop, but only thanks her for visiting as she starts to step out. The girl turns to reveal and item she shoplifted without Tamaki knowing, but simply throws it back to her. She reveals that she was looking for Miyako, and gives Tamaki a message to give to her. When Ishida visits his parents, he finds that their family business has changed dramatically. Instead of being treated to homemade cooking like he wishes, his mother only gives him pre-prepared foods from the grocery store. Ishida even helps at the store that night, noticing an unsatisfied customer storm out. While talking with his mother shortly afterwards, Ishida remembers a bit of his past. He was very confident in his abilities when starting a similar job, but he was unable to stop a robbery. Seeing that he has always been running away from things, Ishida declares that he will fight.

When Ishida leaves the next morning, his mother gives him a decent amount of money. Even though he did help, Ishida does not believe that he deserves such an amount. Miyako panics when Tamaki describes what happened at the store, and she reveals that the girl’s name is Odajima Reimi. Tamaki finally receives her pay from the manager shortly afterwards, making her very happy. While walking home with her, Miyako asks Tamaki why she decided to work. Miyako goes on to reveal that she wanted to work in order to buy Dan a present for his birthday, which happens to be on that very day. As Miyako speeds off in panic, Tamaki suddenly remembers someone else’s birthday. When Tamaki’s father receives his gift that night, he secretly cries tears of joy. Elsewhere, Reimi says good night to her parents, one of them being the old woman who encountered Ishida at the grocery store.

Ishida gets up early in hopes of being the first one to arrive at the rival school, but Kirino has already claimed that position as the president. The rest of the team arrives sometime later, and the competition soon starts. Tamaki preforms as well as ever in the first round, shocking the rival school and putting her own team in joy. Ishida has a meeting about the team’s results over lunch, but he finds that Kirino is somewhere else meeting with an old friend from middle school. While Kirino talks with her friends, she becomes happy at the mention of the name “Azuma”, someone who isn’t there at the moment. Miyako enjoys her lunch with Danjuro, but she panics when she sees Reimi in the distance. Kirino and Sayako discuss the less than pleasing final results in their own dojo later, and the strange personality change Miyako has obtained. Ishida offers a treat to the team if they do well in the upcoming matches, so they begin training hard again as usual. When Ishida remembers the need for their fifth member, Kirino suddenly suggests that there might be one. Kirino is unable to remember the name on the top of her head, but the girl is certainly close by. Her name is Azuma Satori.

Preview: You’re just crazy Kirino.

Impression:

Man, it is taking forever for Satori to enter the kendo club as the fifth member. I really didn’t think it would take half a season for her to join. She better bring something awesome to the table, because from what I’ve seen so far, I’m not expecting much from her. Anyways, this episode was pretty awesome just because of all the Miya Miya action it had. It was really cool to see how nice she was to Tamaki, proving that she isn’t always “black” when she isn’t around Dan. Her personality is also shifting rapidly because of Reimi. I am very interested in seeing why Miyako is so afraid of her. It it turns out to be something silly, I will like it even more. I really don’t understand how one tomato could generate that much juice! Ishida’s parents’ business made me laugh a lot too, and I admit that I was kind of proud for getting that cultural joke. I’m also kind of happy that Tamaki’s dad actually got a present from her. This anime has heart! Tamaki’s otaku desires will have to wait for another day. It’s hard to tell what the next episode will bring, but I’m sure it’ll be as fun as ever.

I am at episode 8 right now. I feel like it is a waste of time watching this show, what do u think?

Woah Siva. Woah. You’re quick. Well, it depends on your definition of “waste of time”. I enjoy this show because it’s an easy light comedy to watch. No, I don’t think it’s an anime that I remember down the road, but it’s fun none the less. It’s really nice to have a low maintenance show on my schedule this season, especially since most of the stuff I am blogging is crazy dialog driven. In the end, I’m still blogging for fun as I should be.

Besides, I don’t usually watch anime to “waste time”. I started this anime blog as a tool to help me study Japanese, and when I marathon anime that I’m not blogging, I’m always doing something else on the side – whether it be an art project or light studying. “Wasting time” is a statement that can be looked at in so many ways, even outside of anime land. I guess that’s a rant for later though.

How’s that for an answer? ;)

I can’t wait for them to introduce the 5th girl properly, but Reimi gives me the creeps *shudders*!

Oh, don’t underestimate Satori! It’s correct that she entered the show relatively late (around tankoubon 5 in the manga), and she’s a very interesting addition. Characterwise, I consider her the second-most interesting mix after MiyaMiya. Strength-wise… well, you’ll see for yourself ^_^

Hazel: Haha, I can’t wait to see what’s up between her. I’ve never seen Miya Miya so freaked!!

Mentar: Second to Miya Miya?? Wow, that’s got my hopes up. The only clue I have to her right now is her clumsiness from the ED. She’d better shock me after my having to wait this long though! ;P

@Hazel: that maybe the only reason i am still watching this show.

@Totali: good point for the answer. I just want to drop some of the Currently Airing show and marathon other series thats why i said it is a wast of time.

The similarities between Ishida and Kirino continue to amuse me. Also, kudos to Tama-chan for remembering her father’s birthday.

I’m another person enjoying this series as a light comedy. Bamboo Blade is far from filling the gaps that Lovely Complex and (to a far lesser extent) Seto no Hanayome left behind, but it’s my almost necessary balance for the serious shows like Ghost Hound and ef or the frustrating harems that leave me wanting to knock some sense into almost every cast member.

I thought it was hilarious when MiyaMiya said “Bullseye. Here’s one Piso.”

    Haahahahahah
    I heart this show.

It’s kinda hard to believe Miya-Miya is actually afraid of someone. Her horror at the mere thought of Reimi was just hilarious, especially when she sprayed Dan-kun with the food and with the piso. xD That Reimi must have one heck of a black aura for Miya-Miya to be that terrified. Maybe Miya’s dark side was the result of all the supressed hate and anger she had for Reimi. I wonder if she’d take up kendo as well just to freak out Miya even more. =D

@Erin: Same here. I couldn’t find anything this Fall as funny as LoveCom, but I totally love the humor of Bamboo Blade and Minami-Ke in their own right, with Clannad thrown in (even though it has its moments of drama). =)

Siva: Haha, yea I was just being silly. I can totally see why you would want to make room for more anime. I watch too much. ;P

Erin: Woo Lovcom and Seto were some of the best shows from last season. I can’t say this show lives up to either of those, but it’s fun in its own ways. :P

ohphive: LOL the best part was that it was so random. You’re like “what…..oh LOL”

hazy: omg I was dying when she spit the juice all over Dan. The humor in this show is set up so well. You’re already smiling when Miya Miya chomps on the tomato, but then BAM! xD
