Kodomo no Jikan – 10

Afraid.

Summary:

Rin wanted to push Kyoko down the stairs, but in reality, she couldn’t do it. The next day at school, Kuro reveals one of her new sets of clothes as usual. This causes the usual antics, and Rin watches Daisuke closely while he teaches. When Daisuke asks Mimi to get a library card for him, he becomes surprised to find Rin delivering it to him later. Dressed as Mimi, Rin confesses her love for Daisuke. Daisuke is unable take this in the way Rin meant for it, so she runs away in disappointment. Daisuke thinks to himself that he was able to come so far because of Rin’s help, but he loses his composure after thinking about the kiss they had. Rin returns to Kuro and Mimi in their switched clothes, expressing that Daisuke can only see her as a child. On the way home, the group is surprised to find Reiji waiting for Rin outside. Reiji takes Rin to a family restaurant and takes the change to apologize. His work schedule will start to be more hectic, so he will be arriving home later. Of course, Rin assures him that this is okay. Rin becomes excited after being offered desert, but after hearing the waitress’ suggestion, she decides that she does not need it.

During the viewing of a solar eclipse the next day, Rin is injured. Daisuke starts to treat her injury in the infirmary, but Rin asks for a date because of his refusal to treat her wound in a certain way. Daisuke suggests that something like that has nothing to do with the current situation, and that a kid would not understand what happens on a date. Rin reveals something to Daisuke by having him pull on the ribbons at her side, causing Daisuke to look away. Daisuke fears that Rin’s attitude has been caused by Reiji treating her as a woman rather than a child, but Rin goes on to suggest that it is Daisuke that is seeing her as a woman. The next day at school, Kuro and Mimi question Daisuke in private about why Rin has been acting down. Daisuke cannot give the reason, and when he raises his down to have the two leave, Mimi fears that he seems like their previous teacher.

Kyoko attempts to console an obviously troubled Daisuke after school, but most bars are unavailable. The two settle for canned beers in a park, and something hits Daisuke when Kyoko mentions experience to him. Daisuke realizes that if he had experience with women, he may not have become flustered towards Rin. Kyoko goes to on tell Daisuke how troubled she feels when she watches Daisuke, making Daisuke see some attractiveness in her. The two are interrupted by a phone call, and Daisuke rushes off after seeing the message that has been sent to him. This turns out to be a false alarm in the form of one of Rin’s usual requests. Daisuke is unable to say anything to this, and he simply leaves after hearing Rin’s suggestion that he is mad because of her interrupting his date with Kyoko. In tears, Rin expresses her gladness that he actually came.

On the train home, Daisuke wonders why he did not get angry. Looking at his reflection, he realizes that he is afraid of Rin. Rin treats Reiji to her cooking when he arrives home, but he notices the knocked down picture of Aki as Rin goes back into the kitchen. During class the next day, Daisuke calls out for a student to answer the question he has asked. He pauses for a moment after seeing Rin, but goes on to pick someone else. When Kyoko finds Rin by herself at the stairwell after school, she wonders what is wrong. Guessing that she has gotten into a fight with one of her friends, Kyoko suggests that the first thing she should do is be kind to herself. Rin genuinely thanks Kyoko for this advice, and makes her way to Daisuke. Finding him sleeping alone in a classroom, she puts a coat on him before leaving silently.

Preview: Do your true feelings come out when you’re trapped in a gym locker together with someone?

Impression:

Ok, so Rin didn’t really push Kyokyo down the stairs. Funny, because some people told me that last week, and I thought they were joking. I swear I’m going to find out that everything you guys are saying is actually true, and I’m going to be feeling really silly by the end. Stop playing with my mind! Anyways, this episode was awesome. I was laughing at the trio’s usual antics at the beginning of the episode, but my laughter was instantly killed off by the drama Rin was making. The core of this show is finally showing itself, especially with Daisuke finally realizing what is going on. A desperate Rin is very interesting, and so is Daisuke’s confused state. The line he said in the train was brilliant. I really liked the irony of Rin meeting Kyoko on the stairwell again, and Kyoko’s statement that she wouldn’t lose. Oh, how she doesn’t realize what that loli really has up her sleeve. Something that I always find amusing in anime is that when a girl is suddenly suppose to be attractive, their lips are instantly changed from flat to full of volume. Another scene I liked was Mimi’s suddenly being scared out of her mind of Daisuke, and Kuro’s defending her. Haha, Kuro is so cool. There’s only two episodes left, and I’m surprised that it has come this fast. I’m totally ready for a powerful ending!

While you may be ready for a powerful ending, I’m ready for the fourth grade :^)

But seriously, this episode went to some dark places, I feel like I just came off a tilt-a-whirl, first with the “pain, pain fly away” Rin, to the crazed Rin threatening to report Daisuke as a pedophile all the while going commando, to her realizing that kindness is a way to get someone to like her. It’s too bad that this tactic will likely fail with that stupid virgin.

ItAintEazy: Rin has been awesome lately. Her threatening face with the phone was crazy, and she bit Daisuke’s ear really hard xD! The best part is Daisuke’s reactions. “I’m afraid of her” and his dead silence in her home. Wow, this series is amazing. ;P

nigra: I can’t find any good sources either!!!! Every raw I find has all this censoring all over it!!!! Check T.T —>

Aw crap, I forgot about the ear X^DDDD. And you are right, it’s a shame too many people are simply writing it off as some kind of loli fanservice series. As another blogger said, it’s both a worthy series AND loli fanservice.

Now seeing the previews of the next episode, for some reason I just can’t get R Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet” out of my head

    aaaaaaaaargh!

They censored out the string panties pull!
    And Mimi’s cute ass!
    And pantyshot!

    /me blames the neo-cons.

  10. ItAintEazy December 14th, 2007 8:07 am

Eh, it’s not the end of the world if we are denied Mimi’s pantyshot.

In fact, it might even provide an alibi.

  11. Totali December 14th, 2007 11:51 am

nigra: I definitely sent it to the mail you inserted with your comments. I didn’t get any send errors or anything, so just look around! :3

ItAintEazy: Both serious business AND funnies!

Di Gi Kazune: See? I totally rely on you guys to tell me what I missed. The censoring is so out of hand. The majority of people I talk to are either avoiding the anime or waiting for the dvd releases.

    @totali

  16. Tokki December 14th, 2007 11:57 pm

Okay, are all teachers in Japan this close to their student and care so much. Cause here in the U.S my teachers could care about me and my privite matters. JW cause I see it alot in shows.

  17. Totali December 15th, 2007 3:22 am

nigra: Heh, you can check the provider’s site directly too. Not that I’m promoting anything. :O

Tokki: No, I don’t think they are. Daisuke is definitely being portrayed as a special case. Japan’s schooling seems a lot more strict in reality, with a lot higher standards.

Japan’s schooling seems a lot more strict in reality, with a lot higher standards.

    Oh.

    My.

    God.

You really have to check out the blog of this unfortunate former Japanese middle-school teacher. http://www.gaijinsmash.net It really removed the scales from my eyes regarding the vaunted Japanese school system. One spoiler: there is no such thing as detention because apparently it’s unconstitutional.

  19. Di Gi Kazune December 16th, 2007 12:26 am

Shirai-sensei is more typical. As kuro-chan would go… “WAAAAAAAIII! KAKOIIIIIIIIIII!!”

And the outfit Kuro is wearing is actually something she bought for rin in grade 1. :3

  20. Totali December 16th, 2007 10:17 am

ItAintEazy: The site seems to be down atm….but I can already imagine what to expect. My take? Isn’t there always an exception to the rule? I don’t look at Japan’s culture idealistically like most people, but I’m sure the typical conception can’t be that off. I’ll definitely keep trying to access the site though….I have heard of it before.

Di Gi Kazune: lol her “kakoii~” is so awesome. How do you get all this information on Kuro’s outfits, dang! xD

  21. nigra December 20th, 2007 3:13 am

  22. ItAintEazy December 20th, 2007 11:15 am

You actually thought they had censored something too revealing ?
Guess if you’d want to make the most controversial material ever, you’d just have to censor it, and never release an uncensored version, then let people’s imagination run wild!

Apart from that, it’s interesting how they mashed up the manga storyline (they pushed TOO MUCH in eps 9-10) if it would have had 2 more episodes (14 total) it would have been ok. But Japan is about tradition no, and apparently 12 ep long anime is tradition… sheesh! :P

  25. Totali December 21st, 2007 12:48 pm

nigra: ItAintEazy proves that someone has…. ;P

ItAintEazy: convo has moved to the next review~! :S

badbreath778: Heh, a typical thing. I dunno, I don’t think it’ll be that bad. There’s only so much you can do with an adaption from an unfinished manga.
