Ninomiya-kun – 12 (Final)

YES, it’s finally over!!! My final impression is included.

Summary:

When Reika wakes in her dream world, she wonders where she is. As Ninomiya and his friends reach the Neverland theme park, they notice that it has gone to ruin. Despite his friends’ desire to help, Ninimoya insists on going inside alone. Mayu has found an attraction in ruins, but she plays out how it would have been done to herself. Remembering the fun times she had in the past, Mayu wonders why things have come to this. Ninomiya finds Mayu in tears, and catches her before she can run away. Ninomiya tries to converse with Mayu, but she can only wonder why he has come. She realizes that this means he has remembered his past, and brings up the events that happened. Mayu was very happy when Reika and Ninomiya made their promise, but she was very distraught when Reika was taken away. Ninomiya remained kind to Mayu, but her succubus necessities began to show. Mayu believes that she liked Ninomiya even back then, which was why she was unable to take his life force. Mayu believed that it would be ok for her to get a kiss after she died, but she was interrupted before she could give Ninomiya her instructions.

Reika had returned from a long absence, with the promised tickets to Neverland. Mayu insisted that Reika and Ninomiya go on their own, but she collapsed soon after they left. When Ninomiya found her after returning, he believed that a kiss from a prince would revive her. This lead to their kiss, and Mayu’s revival. In the present time, Ninomiya realizes that Mayu has returning symptoms. He attempts to kiss her, but Mayu stops him. She believes that Reika would be sad if he lost his memories again, and Reika appears above to confirm this. Reminding Mayu that she has not told all the details, Reika goes on to reveal what happened after the childhood kiss. Mayu had certainly revived, but she continued to suck the life force out of Ninomiya. Both collapsed afterwards, while Ryoko and Mikihiko arrived. That was when Reika’s personality split into two. Reika wonders which path Ninomiya will choose, but he only calls her a pitiful person. He prepares to take the action the real Reika would know he would, causing pain for the Reika above. Hosaka begins to attack Ninomiya due to Reika’s orders, while Reika approaches a crying child in her dream world.

While continuing to fight Ninomiya, Hosaka wonders why he plans on repeating the past. Ninomiya declares that it will not be the same, while Reika struggles with herself. When the younger Reika reveals that she is crying because she cannot obtain what she wants, Reika tells her that she would be able to obtain anything she wanted. She goes on to explain the struggles she went to through to be with Ninomiya, causing the younger her to finally laugh. Reika then realizes that this girl is the other self she created. Reika apologizes while embracing her other self, as she disappears. Reika saves Ninomiya from a falling chandelier in Neverland, kissing him afterwards. This makes Ninomiya realize that Reika has returned to normal. Reika orders Hosaka to stop, but he refuses. Hosaka and Ninomiya charge towards each other for a final blow, but it is revealed that Mayu has stopped Hosaka’s punch in order for Ninomiya to win. Mayu tells Ninomiya to keep his promise with Reika while in his arms, fainting quickly after.

Ninomiya declares that there is still time, but Reika moves in to stop him from kissing Mayu. This causes Reika to fall onto Mayu, kissing her in the process. With this, Mayu is revived to her usual self. Ryoko and Mikihiko witness this from above in an empty ferris wheel, suspecting that things would return to normal. With the help of Ninomiya’s friends, the theme park is brought back to life. Mayu expresses to Ninomiya and Reika that they would be able to keep their promise, while Irori and Tasuku watch from above as she drags them off. Elsewhere, a defeated Hosaka is helped by his rival Shinobu. When the group returns to the Ninomiya mansion, things have all returned to normal. At school later, Mayu thinks to herself that she will be able to kiss Ninomiya normally in the future. When Ninomiya is called by Hinako, he turns to accidentally lock lips with Mayu. This makes him faint, as everyone attempts to help him. When Ninomiya regains consciousness, he finds Hosaka there to help him up. He gives his condolences to Ninomiya, as Mayu and Reika run towards him.

Impression:

Ah, where to start? This episode totally felt out of place and forced. Reika’s inner world was kind of cool, but I still can’t help but feel like it was taken straight out of another anime. I could say the same thing about Neverland’s destroyed appearance. I think the atmosphere was suppose to be really dramatic, but I couldn’t take any of it seriously after all of the previous events up to this point. The cliched things like Ninomiya catching Mayu’s arm and Mayu’s leaving Ninomiya and Reika with her back to the wall were well…..cliched. Watching Reika interact with her inner loli was kind of fun, and I couldn’t help but notice those “inconsistencies” again. I guess we had bad production to the end! Hosaka’s fight with Ninomiya was ridiculous, as was his reason for fighting. I totally saw Mayu’s kiss with Reika coming, along with the “life goes on” ending. Including “Goshusho-sama” was kind of a nice touch tough. By the way, who else noticed the touchiness with Ryoko and Mikihiko? Won’t that cause complication later on for Ninomiya? Ha, I guess we’ll never know. On to the final impression!

Final Impression:

So what would I label this show as? Probably the biggest disappointment of the season. Before the fall season started, I had most of my hopes on this show as the only love comedy airing. I even changed the banners on my site for the occasion. Quickly noticing the horrible production and low potential from episode one, I still refused to give up on the show. What a mistake. From start to finish, Goshusho-sama Ninomiya-kun was a train wreck waiting to happen. Without any deep plot in the beginning, the only thing the show had going for it was fanservice. Yes, many people appreciated it for that. Too bad I’m not that retarded. Even worse, they made an attempt to insert plot at the very end. This felt ridiculously out of place, forced, and just plain dumb. If this is suppose to be a mindless fanservice comedy, at least keep it that way. Kurogane praised this show for being reminiscent of similar shows that have been missing from season line-ups for awhile, but in my opinion, all those old shows sucked anyways.

So what kept me watching this very bad series? First would probably be my unwillingness to drop the only clear love comedy of the season. I would have watched this show whether I blogged it or not eventually, as I have a strange hobby of watching a ton of horrible harem comedies. The second reason would be, well, Reika. Am I a hypocrite? Maybe. Quite a few people appreciated this show because of what I suspect to be low expectations, but I’m with Aroduc. The only thing that would make this show slightly more enjoyable would probably be heavy drinking. Anyways, the bottom line is that I will watch a series all the way through before giving it proper judgement (unlike some people). Ninomiya-kun might be a fun series to watch if you feel like wasting your time, but otherwise, do yourself a favor and watch something else.

Well said, Totali. I’m not retard either. That’s why I dropped this series quite a while ago. Also, you’re not a hypocrite, dude. I was gonna continue this series because of Reika too, but everything else just threw me off.

Renchan is number 1! Hawt yuri ending isn’t too bad either…
Also, this should have been “Ganbare! Hosaka-sama!”

  3. Rentington December 21st, 2007 3:25 am

Yep, you nailed it. What a mediocre show.

  4. Di Gi Kazune December 21st, 2007 6:45 am

Fortunately, I only watched this show after noting how Reika resembles Ren and so I had no expectations.

kenshin514: Aghhhh this show sucks so much!!!! ………oooooo Reika. :3

Di Gi Kazune: omg an Aroduc supporter. We don’t need any Hosakas here in love comedy land. gtfo! lol….I know that yuri will be getting a lot of attention. ;)

Rentington: I felt like there was a nail in my brain too.

    mmmm… A puchiko-nyu.

  7. Phia December 21st, 2007 11:02 pm

I don’t understand, I gave up watching this anime.
With who he ended up? or it was a harem ending?

  8. Di Gi Kazune December 21st, 2007 11:45 pm

Mini-reika sounds so like puchiko-nyu! mmm puchikoness… all we need is a dejiko to complete the show. >_>

  9. Gravmech December 22nd, 2007 6:08 am

Crap! I was so sure that the three of them would end up in bed somehow due to a hilarious sequence of events, but all we got was some lesbian kissing.

If only they showed us a clearer scene w/ Hinako fondling Mayu and Ryoko sexually harassing Reika, it would have improved the ending considerably.

i wasn’t dissapointed by this show, because i had zero expectations from it!

it was completely mindless, with clichés taken pick and mix from other, better shows, but it had a few laughs.

the “life goes on” ending could have been better (i can’t imagine they’re setting it up for a second series!) but tying everything up neatly was almost certainly beyond the skill of the writers.

  11. Siva December 22nd, 2007 12:06 pm

LOL all of many, at least panda is with me.

I wouldn’t say this is the best or recommendable show but at least from the start to the end it still better than many of other shows in this season which i expected a lot from them but got nothing and boring as hell. Sorry i don’t want say any of those titles otherwise i will got beaten up here.

To tell the truth, i don’t even remember what happened in the first few episodes of this show. XD

  12. Halcyon December 22nd, 2007 1:46 pm

And so, the torment is over. Like many others, I did not expect much from the show after watching the first few episodes (apart from the hawt Reika, of course) so I came to enjoy the show as form of mindless fun and fan service.

However, I do wish they had made Reika as the only main heroine though. Even at the end, I still don’t think Mayu was that interesting of a character, nor Ninomiya for that matter. >:(

  13. tabs05 December 22nd, 2007 11:12 pm

Well, I actually enjoyed the series. It was mindless fun and that in itself is a refreshing break. Also, I think majority of anime adapted from light novels suffer greatly in translation . At least its a short series.

well said and done totali i really felt high hopes for this show when you previewed it and while it was the only love comedy/ harem show to watch for the season, i am a sucker for love comedies like you. love comedies was the first anime ive ever gotten into when i started watching anime. fanservice was the only good point but if there is gonna be a second season, i would jump in for the train wreck. its so bad its kinda good feeling.

wait i never got the point when ryoko and mikihiko were in the ferris wheel naked. that was a big twist in the end to me and also weird. (did anyone see that coming?)

  15. Avisch December 22nd, 2007 11:56 pm

    stevelikesanime:
WOW….You just helped me point out a bigvanimation inconsistency in this episode. The first shot of the two has Mikihiko with a suit on and only Ryoko’s neck showing. Next shot has them both naked

I agree with everything Totali said.
This was the show I was looking forward for this season.
But by the 3rd or 4th episode. I relaized that this was in vain.

The show was incredibly predictable. The funniest parts were the prologue episode stories (doujin Reika, Reika becoming a empress, Hinako)

  16. stevelikesanime December 23rd, 2007 12:50 am

haha ya those proluges were funny. man i love the opening for the episodes. i have it in my ipod you should go get too.

go to gendou.com and become a member. the music downloads are free. it has a ton of anime songs from almost every title.

  17. Ravage December 23rd, 2007 11:56 am

Meh, it’s just a matter of what you expect from a show and if said show can meet up to those expectations.
I had pretty much 0 expectation for Ninomiya-kun, but I found it an enjoyable show to watch, where on the other hand I had big expectations for Ef, which was somewhat of a disappointment to me.

  18. Totali December 23rd, 2007 1:40 pm

Sorry for the late replies…but it took me awhile to get myself to even come back to this show.

Di Gi Kazune: I….I don’t get it!!!

Phia: Looked like a harem ending to me. Mayu finally kissed Ninomiya, but otherwise, everything is about the same from the beginning.

Gravmech: LOL well…..you’ll have to settle I guess. xD

panda: Again, you had to have no expectations for the show to appreciate the show…and no, if there is a second series it will be a train wreck. >x3

Siva: See, everyone is only appreciating this show because it’s “not as bad as this show” or they have to think that it’s “not that bad”. T.T

Halcyon: They should have just taken everything out of this show bur Reika…then it would have been better. If they had a spinoff about Reika’s corporate adventures…I’d watch it. (half joking)

tabs05: Yea, I’ll agree with that. I’m not sure how this would seem as a novel though…fanservice with words? xD

stevelikesanime: LOL wow I did not even see that…holy crap. GG

Avisch: That’s probably true. They should have just made the show about those prologue segments.

Ravage: But why should you have to have low expectations for a show to enjoy it? I mean I can watch these shows, but to call them good is another thing…the bad production for one thing will never get out of my head. (is that an arm or a blob i see there….?)

  19. Di Gi Kazune December 23rd, 2007 10:01 pm

Look who voices Reika and make your connections.

  20. [...] read with interest tjhan’s thoughts on harem series and several closing thoughts on the fanservicey Ninomiya-kun. No matter what others may say, I firmly believe fanservice has its [...]

  21. usagijen December 26th, 2007 2:26 am

I actually felt it wasn’t gonna get anywhere, and gave up following the show, halfway through the entire series… looking at the novel didn’t help either, as it further strengthened the fact that it was not gonna get any better =[

I still like Reika though, and Ninomiya-kun for that matter XD
