Orion: Ha! Tell me about it. It's usually like "OMG wow" or "uh....wtf?". :3

Rentington: Heh, so you're on the other side! Not anything horrible...a lot of people can't stand slice of life. For the record, Bamboo Blade isn't exactly slice of life...it's just like a kendo comedy lol. Minami-ke is more on the comedy end of slice of life. I've been blogging a lot of these shows lately because a lot of good ones have been coming out, and I actually appreciate writing about them more than the lovcoms I was all over before. :S

Sylon Beta: Most of my friends don't actually watch anime, but I do have one that is pretty open. His favorite anime are Bleach and Death Note though....I'm trying to open him up by introducing stuff like Beck to him first. Haha.

natsuneko: Haha, you ordered merchandise before watching the first too series!? That's dedication xD!

[...] The customer, Amaranda, seems kindly enough but seems to be able to one-up Akari at every special spot that she’s introduced to. Akari ends up being distressed that she was not able to show Amaranda-san anything new but Amaranda will still treasure the memories made today, memories that are made up of sharing Akari’s enthusiasm and love for Neo Venezia. She deliberately chooses Singles precisely because their n00bness is innocent and refreshing and maybe because she enjoys embarrassing statements. Alicia reveals that she also gave Amaranda a tour when she was a Single; Akira and Athena too - that’s the trick, get ‘em while they’re young! Suitably inspired without resorting to motivation posters, the junior trio resolve to work hard to achieve the status of prima. [See Totali’s summary.] [...]

I find that I have the same problem that you do; having to describe what I like about slice of life. A few friends of mine watch anime, but more mainstream shows like Bleach and whatnot, so I have trouble communicating (Fanboying, in other words) with them.

@ Rentington: I don't think knowledge of Japanese makes much of a difference when watching slice of life shows. The important thing is to relax.

Slice of life shows are generally "slice of boring" to me. You seem to be blogging a lot of those types, like bamboo blade and so forth. They do lack a good (if any significant) premise in a lot of cases. My Japanese is not refined to the point where I can understand subtle humor. So, as for now, I cannot share your enthusiasm for the genre. But, I am giving Minami-ke a chance as soon as things die down a bit at college.

Hehe, nekoguchi Aika is always great.

I know what you mean about not really being to explain this series to someone else. With shows like Aria or Mushishi or Hidamari Sketch, I never really know what to say when someone asks me what the series is "about".

It's one of those series where you really just have to let someone watch the first episode, and either they "get it" right away, or they just don't. :
