Kimikiss pure rouge - 17

His and Her Circumstances

Summary:

Alone in his room in the morning, Kazuki cannot stop thinking about Eriko’s previous phone call about ending their experiments. At school, the soccer team’s coach sees that Kazuki is missing practice again. Asuka agrees with the coach’s observations, but she can’t help but feel concerned. When Kouichi greets his mother in the morning, he discovers that Mao has already left to go on a date. Mao meets Eiji in town, and happily clutches to his arm as they set off. When Kouichi tells Yumi about Mao’s actions as of late, she expresses her wish to get along better with Kouichi as well. Kouichi agrees with this, as he looks into the sky. While walking with her, Eiji can only remember Mao’s previous actions in the bar. Wondering what they should do that day, Eiji suggests that they play a racing game. Mao declines this, concerning Eiji as she suggests that they enter a nearby store.

Asuka visits Kazuki at his home, so the two head out. Guessing that he is troubled over Eriko, Asuka suggests to Kazuki that he stop his experiments with Eriko. She also expresses that Eriko thinks nothing of him, but is surprised to find that Kazuki depressingly agrees. When Kazuki reveals that Eriko had ended their experiments, Asuka can only remember the conflict she had with her previously. Kazuki expresses Eriko’s individualistic type nature, and thinks to himself that he really couldn’t live in the same world as her. Kazuki thanks Asuka for listening to him, promising to return to practice the next day. However, Asuka can only believe that it is her fault that this has happened.

As Eiji and Mao watch another sunset together, they reveal their matching phone straps to each other. Mao suddenly wonders if Eiji likes her, which he agrees to. Mao replies positively as well, but Eiji can only wonder if something has happened. Mao denies, but when she is at home that night, Kouichi’s kiss with Yumi continues to appear in her head. Meeting his mother, Kouichi finds that Mao is absent again in the living room. Mao sits troubled in the bath, remembering how she comforted a crying Kouichi in the past. While she eats with Kouichi in a restaurant, Yumi recalls that spring break is approaching soon. Yumi finds a book that she is interested in when the two visit the bookstore afterwards, so Kouichi promises to get it for her. Eiji notices that Mao has something on her mind when he sees her in a restaurant. He finds that she will not tell him anything about it, however, before quickly heading to work.

As Kazuki does his best at soccer practice, Asuka realizes that something is troubling him. At home, Eriko continues to sit silently alone. Finally deciding to do something that afternoon, Asuka makes a call to Mitsuki. Kouichi enters Mao’s room at night, finding the book that Yumi wants. Mao sits alone in the park, remembering discussing with her mother about studying in Japan. As her mother was slightly troubled about this, Mao suggested that she would stay with Kouichi. When Mao finally returns home, Kouichi takes the chance to greet her for the first time in awhile. Kouichi mentions that he saw the book they read as children, but Mao refuses to discuss this with him as she runs to her room. Mao gets a phone call from Eiji soon after, who is concerned about Mao’s well being. Mao assures Eiji that nothing is wrong, but this obviously isn’t the case as she buries her face.

The club believes that Mao is doing an astounding job when filming at school, but the truth is that Mao is not acting. Kouichi brings the book he found to Yumi after the shot, and Mao struggles with herself when she sees them. Kouichi comforts a crying Mao in the next scene, expressing that he has looked at her since they were children. However, this triggers real memories of Kouichi comforting a crying Mao when they were kids. The group expresses their excitement about another successful scene afterwards, but Mao continues to be troubled. While Kazuki fills a water bucket by himself, he wonders if he truly understood Eriko’s feelings. While the group prepares for fireworks on the roof, Kouichi discovers that Mao has already left. Mao sees Eiji at the bar, so he offers to take her inside for a drink. Mao lets go of his hand in the process, however, stating that she cannot continue seeing him in her current state.

Preview: Mao goes emo in the rain. Eriko hates everybody.

Impression:

Shut up Mao. Go away. Die in a fire. I dunno guys. I just don’t know anymore. I’ve really started to lose interest in this show now that it’s decided to drag on and go in circles. This episode was kind of eye opening though. As confident I was about the predicted pair ups from the beginning, this episode suggests that there really could be change. Asuka’s slow advancement towards Kazuki in particular has me remembering events from shows like KimiNozo. It’s impossible to say for sure though, since it seems like they’re really looking to confuse us all. Taking blame, Asuka might really be taking actions to fix Kazuki and Eriko’s relationship. It seems like the writers are more than ready to take any advancement we get and cast it aside too. Take Eriko’s lightening up for example. Where did that go? I also thought the animation took a slight dip in this episode. Ah, but no worries. Despite my antagonist feelings, I fully intend to keep covering this show after getting this far. I just hope to see something more than Mao’s emo facepalming in the episodes to come.

Oh by the way, the phone strap symbolism was pretty awesome etc. Get better Kimikiss.

Shut up Mao. Go away. Die in a fire.

    rolf, poor girl. Well, shit…

Just hang in there, every show has its episodes that are a bit slower than the others… but I think things are about to heat up.

As for Eriko lightening up, it was her involvement with Kazuki that sparked it in the first place, then becoming a little more upbeat over time. Remember, when she called him about the summer experiments, she was smiling, then when he said he had soccer practice and wanted to change a little, she stopped and it was all down hill from there. Asuka yelling at her, Kazuki and Asuka at soccer practice, her deciding to end the experiments… now she’s almost back where she started. I agree, I think Asuka is likely to try to patch things up between them. Kazuki will also try but maybe not right away.

Mao is a real piece of work. I think there’s a real good chance she won’t have a guy at the end and will just go back to France, alone. Kouichi and Yumi look like their relationship is pretty solid anyway, even though he does occasionally waver a little.

Well, that’s my take on it anyway, for what it’s worth. It’s all in the details, if you catch them.

Mao is a horrible unlikeable character, which is sad since she started out so awesome. I actually like the simple Kouichi x Yumi relationship…It’s a shame it’s going to be ruined by stupid Mao. Kai deserves someone so much better.

I’m waiting for the sub, so I just read the impressions and try to get an idea. Anyway I think that Asuka needs to hurry the fuck up and get with Kazuki. Screw Eriko man, that chick has issues.

  6. Jauken7 February 6th, 2008 12:12 am

Well, I like Eriko, I think she’s cool; she’s just got a lot to deal with. Her mother is gone, her father is almost never home, she has no friends, and there are issues in her past that caused her emotions to shut down… and her taste buds for that matter, her diet needs some serious work. She just needs a good strong guy like Kazuki to stick by her and help her work through all this. Once she opens up, her love and devotion for him will be stronger than most could even hope for. Furthermore, I think Kazuki sees Asuka more as a sister than a lover, so I just don’t see it happening between those two. “Sorry Asuka”

You probably notice I talk about anime characters as if they were real people; it’s more fun this way and takes fewer words. Otaku, maybe, maybe not… Moe, naa, don’t think so… Just really like anime, yeah, it’s cool.

I never thought that I will see a female character that made me pissed off this much until I saw Mao in this episode. I bet in the next episode we will see 10 minutes of Mao runs around in the rain, think about what she just says and regret about it. Damn, that’s lame. Also, the lack of Eriko is this episode make it even suckier (I’m not sure that’s the word. LOL). Oh well, as long as, Koichi ends up with Yumi and Kazuki ends up with Eriko, then I’ll be happy. Also, Mao must have her “nice boat” thing (along with the frog because they are damn annoying).

Also where the hell has the posh-flirt-in-the-bath girl gone?

  9. Shirukii February 6th, 2008 9:54 pm

Mao has lost a lot of the awesomeness she had in the beginning of the series, but seeing someone you’ve liked since you were a kid dating someone else would is a fairly decent reason. I’m still all for a Kouichi-Mao end, Hoshino is far too generic for my liking.

On the other side of things, I -HATE- Futami’s rival, Sakino, was it? ARGH. She needs to die.

i just kinda get the feeling that i hate this show.
after 16 and 17, alot of people has some problems.
I will try to list them down on earch character.
First off Kazuki: Didn’t think it was gonna be that easy right? step your game up a notch or something. Experiments are over. now is the real test.
next Asuka: you too need to step your game up or you wont kiss kazuki like in the Op of the anime XD
Mao-nee-chan:Omg where should i start. First you need to stop looking so emo. next why is childhood crush so popular with anime? this trend needs to stop. Why in your freaking right mind did you break up with Kai? He was a freaking good guy and practically the only person that besides Kouichi that cared about you?
Asuka:not too mad about her but she too needs to add another level with your love with kouichi
Futami:Sorry but you need to face reality now. Love is something that you will find out not by taking experiments.
Kai:Nothing wrong about you. You just need to follow your instincts and tap that but all that is gone thanks to you.

I will still watch this series given how far i went. If i start a series. I need to end it. Unless it was really that bad of an episode.

    @my previous comment
    sorry bout the typo
    the Second asuka meant Hoshino

i’m not falling for this one again–i thought kiri was going to be the one in canvas2 but we know how that ended. i see yumi in that exact same position now. although it seems like she’s in a hopeless situation, i can totally see a kouichi-mao ending. and i don’t think that would be such a bad thing.

also, i like futami a lot. she’s shy, introverted, lacks self-esteem, and she can be cruel, but that is in part due to inexperience. most of all, though, she’s unhappy. someone like kazuki would make a great foil for that kind of personality. they would bring out positive things in each other making both of them better people.

OH come on everyone should have seen the split coming. Eiji was a two dimensional character from the get go. From the I hate this girl because im the cool loner beginning. He had no depth to him. They never flushed him out as a person. This was so obvious its painful.

  14. Jauken7 February 8th, 2008 11:05 am

True enough, Kai was probably never meant to be developed much beyond that but Mao has been the stereotypical indecisive emo queen as well. Now they’ve split, her decision, and all she will be good for now is dragging Kouichi down. That could cause problems between him and Yumi, especially if she decides to confess to him about her feelings.

    I love this show!

    (dodges tomatoes)

MORE POWER TOTALI. YOU CAN DO IT! :D

  16. Owen S February 9th, 2008 2:30 am

Gotta agree about the phone strap being an awesome symbol, although they’re fleshing out Mao’s depth of how much Kouichi actually means to her, so I’m not complaining about it just yet.

  17. aihana February 10th, 2008 5:43 am

poor kai kun~ i really feel like strangling mao! wth is her problem! but i gotta agree, even tho its getting bad, i must continue watching since i got this far~ grr

  18. Neohybrid_kai February 10th, 2008 7:41 am

    Go, Mao-nee! lol
yes its lame. but a reason is still a reason. if its still logical then its enough to make me go on. I trust JC staff for making no harem/nice boat/etc kind of ending

For those interested, the raw Kimikiss vids are usually made available pretty quick by a user named ‘wapico’ on veoh.com. They are usually named Chu~~ Ep** and replace the ** with the episode number. When you search, omit the ~~ when searching because the search engine will come back negative if you leave them in.

I saw Ep18 last night but will wait to comment fully till the blog has the epi listed. All I will say right now is finally Eriko reveals a little history, and Mao spills the beans. Things are getting a lot more interesting, it’s a good one.

Heh, it’s more of an issue for time for me nowadays. Blogging 8-9 shows just isn’t a great idea for me in Uni, though I do it anyways with a bit of inconsistency. I’ll get to Kimikiss eventually during the week. I try to make it so that I’m not later than the fansub releases at least :S. For now, why not check out some of my favorite blogs that are covering the show:
