Minami-ke: Okawari - 08
Princess Chiaki is looking at pr0n!?
Summary:
The friendly shop owner that Haruka always visits reveals that she has some pool tickets for the new resort that has opened nearby. Since she has no use for them, she happily gives them to Haruka so that she can enjoy herself with her sisters. Kana becomes extremely excited about this at home, quickly going to call her friends. Chiaki, on the other hand, only stays very distracted when Haruka tries to start a conversation with her. When Kana walks in on her sister later, Chiaki quickly hides the page she was looking at on the computer. Chiaki changes the subject when Kana jokingly suggests that Chiaki has been looking at perverted websites, so Kana reveals all of the friends she has invited to the pool. When Kana goes to greet their uncle at the door, Chiaki continues her search on the internet.
At school, Chiaki’s friends excitedly talk about the upcoming event. Chiaki is not as enthusiastic about it, but she convinces her friends that it isn’t that she dislikes the pool. As the girls change the subject to the swimsuits they plan to wear, Makoto can only listen in from the doorway. When Touma almost enters the room, Makoto drags her to the side. Wondering what he should do in his usual predicament, Touma comes up with a solution. Fujioka meets Kana at school, and attempts to ask her on a date by presenting tickets to the new pool resort that has opened up. Kana quickly agrees, making Fujioka believe that he has just scored. Hosaka overhears Haruka’s conversation with her friends about going to the pool, and changes his own plans when Hayami announces to him that the volleyball team has something special planned.
Kana and Haruka decide on swimsuits at night, while Chiaki listens to a television program with concern. In the morning, Fujioka is disappointed to find that he is actually going to the pool with a large group. Further more, Takeru is not pleased with seeing him. Before the girls get ready to pile into Takeru’s car, they all reveal the swimsuits they have under their clothes. Kana does this as well, but she actually isn’t wearing anything underneath. The girls play cards while on the way to the pool, and Takeru asks Fujioka about his relationship with the girls. In particular, he suspects him of being interested in Kana. Finding that they are taking quite awhile to get to their destination, Kana suspects that Takeru does not know where he is going.
When the girls finally reach the resort, they have lunch together. Chiaki quickly leaves for the pool in determination, however, making the rest of the group wonder if she was that excited about the pool. The girls realize that they have never seen Chiaki swim before, but Chiaki reappears to step on Kana’s face. She calls on Touma to accompany her, making the girls reveal to Kana her sister’s reputation as a princess at their school. Kana instantly begins giving Chiaki a hard time about this, as Chiaki defends herself from her sister and her friends. Yoshino gets a float from Hosaka who is working at the resort, brining it back to a now very embarrassed Chiaki. Yoshino even goes to the bathroom for Chiaki through Kana’s orders, but she returns to find Chiaki defying her sister as a princess.
After the sisters quarrel for a bit longer, they finally decide to join the others in the pool. Seeing that Chiaki is very troubled about entering the pool, Kana wonders what is wrong. With this, Chiaki has her sister help her in the pool. Kana of course teases Chiaki by letting her go after awhile. Fujioka saves Chiaki while she struggles in the water, but Chiaki lets go of him after being embarrassed by her friends. Hosaka meanwhile prepares for his chance to save Haruka, preforming CPR on an inflatable bear. Chiaki tells Kana about her swimming goals, putting what she can currently do to the side. Uchida begins acting on this, stating that her goal is to be picked up like a princess. When Yoshino suggests that this would be possible if she was in trouble, Uchida begins acting on this advice to no avail.
Chiaki starts following her sisters instructions on improving her techniques, but realizes that they are ludicrous. Also at the pool, Atsuko wonders to Hayami why the volleyball team is there for the day. When Maki arrives to reveal that Haruka is sleeping, Hayami decides to put her plans of capture into action. When Keiko arrives to the pool with Riko, Riko reveals that her goal is to bump into Fujioka in order to start a blooming relationship. Fujioka accidentally bumps into her shortly afterwards, making her express that she has already achieved that goal. Kana finds Touma and Makoto watching Chiaki practice swimming, and finds that they are both troubled about their gender as usual. When Fujioka returns to the group, Touma quickly dives into the water to hide herself.
Chiaki finally attempts her goal to swim 50 meters, finding that it is a long journey. She hears her sister’s voice like the light at the end of a tunnel, but finds that Kana has caught her only at the 15 meter mark. Disappointed, Chiaki loses her strength. Many of the girls begin to gather, wishing to spend their time with Kana and the others. A sleeping Haruka expresses to herself that her goal is a peaceful world. Unknown to her, however, she is currently being thrown into the pool by her peers.

That’s it. Chiaki has completely won me over….again. The “princess” segment of this episode was a riot, and I died watching Uchida suffer multiple forms of abuse with a smile. Chiaki’s “Who do you think I am?” almost had me expecting a point to the sky….and the appearance of drills. But unlike the amazing moving ahoge that Chiaki owns, I thought her crazy chin shaking was just plain weird. I seriously had to pause out of confusion of what had just happened during that segment. I really loved Chiaki’s struggle with swimming, though it was totally predictable. Even the girls noticed that Kana and Chiaki were just playing as sisters while they argued. Watching Kana help her sister in her own way and Chiaki end her struggle by falling into Kana’s arms really proved the love they share. Yea, that made me feel pretty happy inside.
Other parts of this episode were a lot like the first episode of Okawari, especially with Takeru’s seeing Fujioka again. They also brought up a lot of references from the first season, which was pretty nostalgic. A lot of the small jokes might have seemed like a rehash, but I have yet to get tired of it. Sometimes I feel like this show is better talked about in funny screenshot form though…because it was so much easier to jot down notes about what I laughed at than it is actually coming up with real things to say about this show. For example, “Hosaka is back!” or “She’s not….wearing any pants!”

Between the Ichigo Mashimaro-like ‘kicking into flight’ shots of Uchida and Kana, the torture of Kana, and then her attempts to swim… plus the way she reacted after Fujioka-human pulled her out of the water, I’d have to say this was a good one. ESPECIALLY with no Fuyuki. Oh, and the Mako-chan speed-stripping.
Oh, and watching a REAL Hosaka delusion was nice, since it included him doing something with Haruka in a fantasy setting. This was one of their better attempts this season, even if the animation… well, it wasn’t as bad as last episode, but still. Hayami-senpai opening her eyes after setting up Hosaka to head to the pool was… rather fun too.
Between all the swimsuits and that Fujioka and Chiaki scene, the episode was pretty ‘win’ all around, and the ending was.. mmm… Haruka being thrown into the water.
Excuse me while I zone out. You know, I think Fujioka is the only guy who doesn’t get Chiaki-abuse, thanks to Haruka’s vouching for him last season (’Somehow, he reminds me of Father’), and his lack of idiocy beyond his interest in Kana. If she ever gives up on Haruka, in about ten years she might well end up chasing after Fujioka; I don’t think any other guy out there would measure up to her standards… and that response she had would’ve been considered ‘tsundere’ in any other setting.
Episode 6 from last season was the beach episode. The first episodes of this season was the hot-spring episode. Now, we have the pool episode. Somehow Minimi-ke series manage to have all the possible fan-service episodes XD
Yeah, somehow this season has a lot of fanservice. O_O
There’s nothing wrong with fanservice. I say they show just enough of it just to get you to go O.o for just a second. Oh and today’s search engine is power by no other than….Cuulgle!
You know you’ve made it when you can order someone to go to the bathroom for you… even if that is kinda odd and ineffective.
The Kana and Chiaki sisterly moment was indeed really nice. I wonder if Hosaka will ever get to formally meet Haruka. xD
