Clannad – 21
I’m pretty sure I missed half the lines in the beginning of this episode.
Summary:
The drama club recites and has difficulty with a page of strange lines given to them by Komura-sensei to practice with. The groups goes through stretches afterwards, discussing the difficulty they will be having with upcoming events. When Tomoya and Nagisa reach the Furukawa house, Sanae readily offers her help. Inside, Akio presents a tape to Nagisa containing footage of a play. This is the first play that Nagisa has ever watched, so she is very moved by the end of it. While Nagisa continues to watch videos, Akio takes Tomoya outside to search for things in the storage. They do not find what they are looking for, but Akio comes across many reminiscent things of the past. The next day, Nagisa expresses her belief that a song towards the climax would be nice. Tomoya wonders if Nagisa has confidence in singing, but convinces her that she should do what she wants.
The girls look over some of the play’s lines later, wondering about the music they should play in the background. With the help of Rei and the rest of the music club, they are able to find an amazingly fitting tune. Tomoyo appears shortly to check on the club’s progress, praising Nagisa and implying that it was good that she was the one that Tomoya picked. Watching Nagisa practice her song, Tomoya recalls everything she has done. Continuing to watch her with a smile as festival preparations are made, Tomoya believes to himself that Nagisa is amazing. With only a day left until the festival, Nagisa focuses quite hard on her script. As preparations are completed for practice on the stage, Nagisa starts to become nervous. The rest of the group begins suggesting ridiculous suggestions to help Nagisa, but they surprisingly work. As the drama club’s turn comes up, the group gives one last cheer before getting into position.
When Tomoya and Nagisa return home, Tomoya reports to the Furukawas that Nagisa’s rehearsal went without flaw. Nagisa visits Tomoya’s room that night, and he correctly guesses that she cannot sleep out of nervousness. Nagisa continues to express the feelings she has towards her parents, and Tomoya remembers that this fits in with the story that Akio told him before. Tomoya only tells Nagisa that she is worrying too much, and reminds her to focus on the play for the next day. Nagisa searches for some missing items later that night, but accidentally comes across her family’s old photos in the storage room. When Tomoya finds Nagisa later, he sees that she has finally learned about her parents’ pasts. Seeing that her father was an actor and her mother was a teacher, Nagisa is only able to believe that it was her fault that they could not follow their dreams. Tomoya attempts to convince Nagisa to get some sleep, as he reads about the happiness Sanae had being able to be by Nagisa’s side in the meantime. Shortly afterwards, Akio enters to express his disappointment.

Impression:
And it wasn’t because of Tomoyo’s glasses. Okay…….maybe it was. Dumb jokes aside, this episode was excellent. I find it really funny and awesome at the same time that Tomoya and Nagisa are basically a couple at this point. Their friends get it, and Nagisa’s parents get it. Tomoya even acted like Nagisa’s boyfriend while accompanying her everywhere. The scene where Tomoyo patted Nagisa just made me laugh at the rest of the disappointed faces across the room too. I love that Tomoyo gets involved without making it romantic. This reminded me a lot of the movie, which a lot of the events in this episode started heading towards as well. Nagisa finally found out about her parents dreams, and it was all the fault of the mikan box (too bad DiGiKerot and Hung don’t watch this show). Even though I had a smile on my face throughout the rest of this episode, the last few scenes just made me pretty sad. Wipe those School Days eyes off your face, Nagisa! Looks like next week will be the finale for now. Yea, I don’t really keep up with the news….
Oh, and the alien fantasy scene was freaking awesome. Puhi!
