Minami-ke: Okawari – 11

Chiaki’s ahoge radar says Kana is not sick.

Summary:

Talking to Riko, Keiko suddenly wonders why she likes Fujioka so much. Seeing that Riko is starting to tell a long story, however, Keiko instead reminds Kana of her cleaning duties for the day. Kana pretends to become sick, leaving the duties to the others as she goes home. When Fujioka visits the Minami household later, Kana states that she has already become better. She invites Fujioka in anyways, but attempts to stop him as he opens the living room door to find Touma in her girl’s uniform. Fujioka gives a natural reaction to Touma, but she still hides herself in the bathroom from despair. Kana is finally able to convince Touma that she has not been found out, however, taking further actions to improve the situation. Kana and Chiaki greet Haruka as she returns later that night, but when she announces the chores they are all to do later, Kana again pretends to be sick.

The next day, Haruka leaves Chiaki to take care of the “sick” Kana. Before leaving, Haruka promises to cook what Kana wants that night. This makes Kana very excited, but she is unable to avoid Chiaki’s suspicious stare. Kana has Chiaki care for her throughout the day, until Haruka finally returns home to prepare Kana’s meal. When Chiaki takes the meal to Kana, she finally suggests that her sister is lying. Kana is unable to defend herself as Chiaki sends Fujioka into her face. When Kana wakes the next morning, she is reminded by Chiaki of the important shopping they will be doing during the day. Kana gets up in excitement for the food later that night, but finds that she has really become sick. Panicking, she convinces her sisters to do the shopping without her. Preventing them from finding out that she is sick, Kana then thinks about ways to cure her sickness before the night.

While in town, Haruka and Chiaki run into Fuyuki. Fuyuki suddenly brings up that he is the president of his class, just as Chiaki is. Uchida meanwhile visits the Minami household, learning of Kana’s problem. Mako-chan also shows up later, presenting medicine for Kana. Kana has the two help her with further preparations, but denies their suggestion that she should go to bed. Haruka and Chiaki finally return home, but Kana does her best to prevent them from learning that she is sick. Chiaki is easily able to see that her sister is sick, however, making Kana run to her in pain. In the end, Chiaki is not angry at all. Due to Chiaki’s suggestion on a later day, Kana confronts Fujioka about the way he addresses her sisters compared to her. Fujioka states that it is embarrassing, so Kana embraces Fujioka from behind to further convince him. This doesn’t work, and Chiaki is baffled that her sister actually did this when she finds out at home.

Impression:

Being sick sucks! I would have used a certain saying for this episode, but someone already got to it before me. This episode was all around a great combination of themed slice of life and humor. I really loved Chiaki’s deadpan stare, and the bell was such a classic touch. I also laughed at Chiaki watching videos that just waste a bunch of time, as if it was really youtube! (She has a pretty nice monitor too.) The gender confusion jokes may be extremely overused at this point, but I still can’t help but crack up at them. I’m not the only one who is continually amazed that it is Nana Mizuki playing Touma’s role. The manga, chewing noises, absurd eye catch, and Keiko abuse were all nice touches too. I’m still expecting some major development between Chiaki and Fuyuki, but I’m not sure if that will happen with only two episodes left. The last part of this episode was excellent in itself, and it seems like even Chiaki realizes what is really suppose to happen between Kana and Fujioka. She’s so smart. Too bad there’s no real love power in this show. I wouldn’t mind some Kyou no Go no Ni themes carrying over into this show.

The movie site whitch Chiaki was watching is parody of Nico Nico Douga.
Probably it is more popular than youtube in Japan. You can add comments
    in the video like subtitle.
If you like to watch Jananese Animation, I think you can enjoy that site.
    http://www.nicovideo.jp/
It is free, but you need to register your e-mail address, and there is no
    English instruction to use it.

Haha, yea I knew it was a parody of Nico (see: Neco Neco Douga xD). I just thought most english speakers would be more familiar with youtube.

Interestingly enough, I just recently got a niconico account and I think I’m already addicted.
