Just Keeping It Real, Spring ‘08

With the spring season approaching just around the corner, I thought I’d put up some of my expectations for a handful of the shows coming out. My slate will be cleared for the second time in my blogging adventure, but honestly, I don’t have as high hopes for this upcoming season when compared to those in the past. I won’t be doing a full season preview since it’s not really my thing. Instead, you can check THAT, Star Crossed, Memento, or (my favorite) Tenka Seiha. You’re sure to find others around the blogsphere too, with plenty to come in the following days. Well, on to it…!

xxxHolic Kei: I feel like I’m one of the only ones around who didn’t completely despise the first season. In fact, I loved it! Chances are, if you plan on watching this, you’re probably already familiar with Clamp’s story. The first season inspired me as one of the best psychological slice of life shows I’ve ever seen, so this one is almost guaranteed to be on my blog list for the next season.

Kanokon: FURRIES 2008. Okay, yea…I know this will be a really shallow and fanservice filled show. Kawasumi Ayako will be playing a lead role along side of Mamiko Noto though, and most of you know by now what kind of sucker I am for these types of series.

Wagaya no Oinarisama: As the title suggests, this is about a Fox Deity. I’m actually pretty excited about this one because of the slight Touka Gettan vibes I’m getting from it. Okay, so the only thing it has in common with that show is a multiple gendered lead and Hayami Saori. But hey, Hashihime’s not the only one who fell in love with that seiyu.

Real Drive: It’s Prod IG season for sure. This looks like their typical si-fi, but for some reason, I’m really looking forward to seeing how this one turns out. If anything, I’m already particularly attached to the cast including my favorite Nonaka Ai.

Kind of thin right? This upcoming season just has too many titles that seem relatively uninteresting to me. There’s also a lot of series that I plan on watching without coverage (like Geass R2). As usual, my predictions are not what are set in stone for what I will actually be covering. I will probably be checking out a lot more than I plan to, especially the handful of romance shows. I’m also typically influenced by reader opinion at the start of any season, since my tastes in anime are pretty broad. For the most part though, I’m actually trying to cut back on this season since I’ll be hella busy in Uni. I might play the catch up game during the summer depending on how things turn out with coverage around the rest of the blogsphere. Who knows. So, what are you looking forward to?

If Kanonkon really was about the Furies, I’d be down with that. ^^

Wow I was suprise u decided to blog real drive, I was looking forward to it but when I saw the trailer it hardly showed anything besides a few kicks, but yes looking forward to it.

Kanokon not suprised you were going to have one or two love comedies in there, thats cool. I may skip this one because I don’t xebec after what they did Negima!

    xxxHolic rulz!

Off to have something for dinner chomp!chomp!

  4. Hinano March 26th, 2008 3:33 pm

    ;_; I’m no longer your favorite….

  5. Totali March 26th, 2008 3:36 pm

Wait what? You put up a season preview??

I meant favorite preview. I’m still an Ex Fan loyalist. :S

  6. Rentington March 26th, 2008 3:40 pm

I figured you would go for “To-LoveRU” because it is very much like a cross between DearS and Girls Bravo.

I’ve read some of the manga from that series. Basically, the main guy loves a girl, but has an obsessive alien stalking him, and she inadvertently causes him to grope the girl he likes all the time. Add a character who beats him up for doing it, and BOOM. Typical harem. Sometimes, even I have to say “Are you even trying?”

  7. Totali March 26th, 2008 3:43 pm

The typical high pitched voice in the loveru cm was a total turn off for me. I’ll probably end up watching it, but I just think I’ll start feeling stabby if I try to cover it.

Also, nothing will replace DearS for me…..ever. :S

Are you cheating on me with Hinano again?

  9. Deranged March 26th, 2008 4:44 pm

Kanakon… read some of the manga, seemed good.
To love ru… love the manga, plan to watch.
    Code Geass… brand loyalties
xxxHOLIC… gotta be done better than the first season. at least animationwise. Read the manga and loved it as well..

Most of what I always plan to watch is because ive seen the prequel or I liked the manga… I’m an elitist bastard like that. Although, I will watch near enough every first episode of the new season to pick out any potentially good shows and let other bloggers tell me what’s good.

I tried the season preview thing last spring season… total manga fanboy fest… not gonna repeat that again! XD

I’m looking forward to xxxHOLIC too! Yuuko-neesan FTW.

  11. Shirukii March 26th, 2008 6:08 pm

I’m going into this season blind again, I only know of Kanokon because of various fanservice shots here and there. And teh Noto.

  12. Kabitzin March 26th, 2008 6:48 pm

Whoa raburabu dorama. Which season preview did you grow up with?

  13. aurabolt March 26th, 2008 7:02 pm

Way too much damn shoujo this season.

  14. Leon March 26th, 2008 7:33 pm

I’m so ready for more Yuuko. ^__^

  15. shh227 March 26th, 2008 8:04 pm

    @aurabolt
Agree dam shoujos but can we really do about it?

I will watch out for souleater macross frontier to see how well these to get on.

  16. Totali March 26th, 2008 8:08 pm

Well, Kabitzin, I would tell you….but that would involve a long story about that childhood promise I made….

I actually have no problem with shoujo anime for the most part, and I’m actually planning on at least checking out a lot of them for this season.

I haven’t seen the first Macross. I’ve heard some good things about Soul Eater, but it just doesn’t seem like the type of show I would usually write about.

  17. Blissmo March 26th, 2008 9:05 pm

Funny, the anime you’ll be blogging are the anime I’m planning on not to watch …

But that’s a good thing since you’re blogging them and then if they sound good enough, I’ll try watch them too.

  18. Ryan A March 26th, 2008 9:27 pm

    Ohhsnap :)

    *high five for being suckers*

Yuh, good stuff, I’m trying to get amped. Real Drive and xxxHolic piece for sure.

  19. Kabitzin March 26th, 2008 9:27 pm

My problem with series like Soul Eater and possibly Nabari no Ou is the lack of yaoi long series length. I don’t usually like to commit to long shounen series that are only long because they drag out a lot of fights and never resolve anything for years.

  20. Avisch March 26th, 2008 10:13 pm

I’m also interested Wagaya no Oinarisama (the diety’s dual genders both look pretty cool, female is a miko and male is bishi smoker :) )

Kanokon doesn’t look too bad. I’m alittle worried about Mamiko Noto voicing a boy it could be alright though.

I did not totally hate the first xxxholic (which was actually one of the first fansubbed anime I ever watched) but I hated how drawn out some episodes were. However I have faith that they (Production I.G.) will be able to pull off the Spide-story well.

and yeah…definitely keeping up with Geass…though I’m currently refraining from looking at SPOILERS.

  21. kitsune March 27th, 2008 12:10 am

    Yay! xxxholic!
Hmm… So many new animes, too many for me to watch…

  22. Di Gi Kazune March 27th, 2008 5:39 am

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!

    Nothing to watch.
/me puts a big fat zero to the watch list. Maybe the jdorama list might yield things.

If I watch another generic harem show like toraburu… I might have to kill off everyone on the planet.

As an aside, Mamiko Noto is best as Hazuki.

  23. Blissmo March 27th, 2008 8:09 am

@Di Gi Kazune: There’s also L Change the World coming out and Kurosagi, both jmovies which I plan on watching…not in Spring I don’t think…

I can’t find anything good on the jodrama list except Rookies, which I have no idea when it’ll be coming out.

  24. hazy March 27th, 2008 7:47 pm

I’ll be checking out the short series, slice of life and love comedies. =D

I haven’t seen the previous season of Code Geass, xxxHolic or Macross, so I’ll skip those. Itazura na Kiss, VK, Real Drive and Toshokan are also in my list. Like everyone else, dropping or watching which series as the 1st episode airs, as usual. ^_^

  25. ItAintEazy March 28th, 2008 10:20 am

Oh, so you didn’t think “Ninomiya-kun” was enough, so you decide to torture yourself even more with series that have “fail” written all over them? But then, I’m looking forward to Golgo-13, so I should talk.

  26. Totali March 28th, 2008 1:55 pm

You’re obviously underestimating the painful pleasure I get from watching bad anime.

  27. Ryan A March 28th, 2008 6:26 pm

Next blog? Habitual Masochism, painfully bad anime ^^

  28. Fang-tan March 29th, 2008 6:39 pm

Did someone say Touka Gettan vibes? I am SO there.

  29. Rentington March 30th, 2008 12:09 am

Rosario to Vampire makes Ninomiya-kun look like high art. Even Totali has his limits to bad anime he’ll blog.
